Ben E. Dickerson

Ben E. Dickerson, Emeritus Director/Professor, Center for Aging & Community, University of Indianapolis is a native Texan, born and raised in Houston. He also was Director/Professor, Institute of Gerontological Studies, Baylor University for 22 years, and Professor, Stephen F. Austin State University for 11 years. Dickerson served in the U.S. Army Reserves and holds the rank of Colonel.
He received Bachelor and Master’s Degrees from Texas A&M University, and a Ph.D. from Louisiana State University. Dickerson is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas.
He was appointed by Governor Bush to the Texas Board on Aging. Dickerson also was a White House Conference on Aging National Delegate. He was selected as a Distinguished Teacher and given “Fellow” status by the Association of Gerontology in Higher Education. His scholarly interests include the “Boomer Generation,” family in later life, lifelong learning, and spirituality and aging. He has produced articles in these areas as well as co-authored four books and contributed chapters to several books.
Likewise, he is the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, Boy Scouts of America.
As a resident of Denton, Texas, he is a member of Denton Bible Church. Dickerson is married with seven adult children and 16 grandchildren.
