'Praying That Jesus Would Knock Me Down'

'Shutter Island' co-star Mark Ruffalo faked his conversion for Jimmy Swaggart as an 8-year-old

Mark Ruffalo, who stars in the No. 1 film Shutter Island, tells talk show host Tavis Smiley that he faked his conversion at 8 years old when Jimmy Swaggart was a guest preacher at his church. The episode will air tonight (check local listings).

Ruffalo said he agreed to "go down" to the altar to please his grandmother, who had been asking him to get "saved." He says that as Swaggart touched the heads of other children who had approached the altar, each child fell out, as if slain in the Spirit. But when Swaggart touched Ruffalo's head, he didn't feel a thing, but decided to fake it by falling backwards to the floor: "And that was my first acting gig."

2/24 UPDATE: Ruffalo talks more about that experience in this interview with The Hollywood Reporter, and his directorial debut, Sympathy for Delicious, in which he plays a priest, is reviewed here.

Watch him tell the story -- and watch Smiley crack up as he hears it:

Jimmy Swaggart was heavily anointed by the Holy Spirit. If you couldn't get saved at on of his services, then you can't get saved.

I wonder how many people were saved at the service where Jimmy Swaggart admitted using prostitutes while being married? Please turn off TBN for good, pick up your Bible and read it. It is the most fantastic book on earth. Before reading it, ask the Holy Spirit for understanding. Please, we should all do more of this.

Almost in every book he wrote, Paul wrote about his aging body, and even how he longed for his new body someday, which will not get ill or have pain or age. Nobody has replied about the thorn Paul asked to be removed 3 times, and which was denied him, or the fact that Timothy was told to take a little wine for his stomach, instaad of some Benny Hinn gimmick. Nobody has replied to the over 1800 years of people NOT having healing, sermons on healing, no hymns about bodily healing, etc. Nobody has replied about the same number of deaths from heart disease and cancer for believers as unbelievers. They have no answers. They would rather believe things like "tumors rolled right down her legs and left her" and people believing such farces.

Please, believe the real gospel. The one that brings eternal life. Our life on earth is so short compared to eternity. It is important to know God, His attributes, and what is taught in the Bible and what is not taught in the Bible. Over and over again, we see verses on salvation, such as in Ephesians chapter 2:

"8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9not by works, so that no one can boast."

Over and over again, we see such a short list of healings, and it is listed like His other miracles, like turning water into wine at the wedding. Jesus and the apostles did miracles to help establish that Jesus was God. Again, of the hundreds at the pool at Bethesda who were lame or blind, etc , only one man was healed, and he did not display any act of faith beforehand. He was chosen out of probably a few hundred people. It was done to make God's glory known. If it was such an important part of His ministry, you would think that all would be healed. But no, just one is recorded as being healed. That was not Jesus' focus on earth. He came to die for our sins so that we may have eternal life.

It really saddens me, but we are seeing the very thing that Jesus taught about end times. We are witnessing a great falling away from the teachings. Paul said in Galatians chapter 1 to not accept any other gospel other than the one he had preached to them. He said that the teaching of any other Gospel will bring eternal condemnation. He repeats it twice, to emphasize the importance of not changing the Gospel.

What is the true Gospel, which means good news? The entire Bible is about the sinfulness of man and the holiness of God, and because of this, we are unable to enter heaven if not for the atoning sacrifice of Jesus. Because of His love for us, He sent His Son, a perfect sacrifice, to die for our sins. Our sinfulness separates us from God. By sending His son to die on the cross for our sins, and His resurrection, those who believe will have eternal life. What an awesome gift we have been given. Eternal life with God our Savior!

Yes, He is a loving God. But there are more verses about His wrath than about His love. He came here first to die for our sins. Unlike so many, who think all will be saved, or nearly all, Jesus said the opposite. Matt 7:13-15 13"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. 15"Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.

Here is the Gospel defined in 1Cor 15: 1-4
"Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. 3 For what I received I passed on to you as of FIRST importancea: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures."

Gospel according to Romans 1:14
" I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last,a just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”

In Corinthians we learn about the body we will have someday in heaven. For now, we all of creation suffers the consequences of Adam's fall. There is a 100% mortality rate.

Again from 1Cor 15:
42 So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.

Nobody is saying that God cannot heal. He heals when it is His will. Period. His healings are 100% total healings, and not improvements. I am saying it is outrageous to command God to heal people, and I am saying that Hinn cannot come up with 3 verifiable healings, out of the many thousands of people. He uses "plants" in the audience. Hinn also talked about putting caskets in front of the tv because he was going to use the power of God supposedly to raise the dead. Please people, open your eyes. We are warned and warned about this. Jesus may return at any time for believers, and you don't want to miss out because you accepted a different gospel.

"Jimmy Swaggart was heavily annointed by the Holy Spirit. If you couldn't get saved at on of his services, then you can't get saved."

Was that sarcasm? Because if you're serious, you have no idea what the gospel is at all! But then, I've never known a Pentecostal that did. Quit your idolatrous man-worship and learn something about Christ for a change.

>>>Was that sarcasm?

No - it was the truth. You're one of the one's who "can't get saved".

Jimmy Swaggart is a annointed Man of God and so is His Ministry. We arent to judge anyone, cause who knows what kind of person you are. God knows all of our hearts from the inside out and he can only judge us!

Let's focus on the Scriptures rather than Jimmy Swaggart's personal life.
