Pandora-monium! 'Avatar 2 & 3' on the Way!

James Cameron, Fox agree to move forward with pair of sequels

According to a press release from 20th Century Fox this morning, director James Cameron has agreed to make Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 as his next films. Cameron will begin working on the scripts early next year, and hopes to begin production later in 2011. He will decide whether he will shoot the films back-to-back after completing the scripts. The first sequel is scheduled for December 2014, and the second for December 2015.

Avatar is the biggest money-making film of all time, earning nearly $2.8 billion worldwide at the box office. It is also the top-selling Blu-Ray disc in history.

Cameron said, "It is a rare and remarkable opportunity when a filmmaker gets to build a fantasy world, and watch it grow, with the resources and partnership of a global media company. Avatar was conceived as an epic work of fantasy – a world that audiences could visit, across all media platforms, and this moment marks the launch of the next phase of that world. With two new films on the drawing boards, my company and I are embarking on an epic journey with our partners at Twentieth Century Fox.

"Our goal is to meet and exceed the global audience's expectations for the richness of Avatar’s visual world and the power of the storytelling. In the second and third films, which will be self contained stories that also fulfill a greater story arc, we will not back off the throttle of Avatar’s visual and emotional horsepower, and will continue to explore its themes and characters, which touched the hearts of audiences in all cultures around the world. I'm looking forward to returning to Pandora, a world where our imaginations can run wild."

What this article is doing in a christian site? I really don't understand.

It takes him that long to write a script? I could rip off another movie in half that time.

Is it lost on this site that the movie supports the worship of the Nature Mother Goddess? Really?

dear bro's. I am writing from europe. as a former missionary in ecuador and currently doing intercultural studies I would like to ask you, how much time you are spending dialoguing with non-believers.
this movie is a perfect tool to get in touch with them. because its content is full of possibilities to talk about the better world, new life, being born again. it contains applicable metaphors in itself. know what? the apostle paul in his day contextualized his areopag speech exactly for seekers like the Avatar-audience.
there are many approaching tracks within the movie, to get involved in a meaningful conversation ending up with the gospel. I really like that movie. this the 21. century, folks. and if we want to preach a relevant gospel to our neighbour, we gotta know where he IS. and this movie corresponds with his tremendous spritiual need in an unsaved life. so please stop your polemics and get ready to go!!! blessings. peter in switzerland

In my opinion, Avatar is the worst mainstream film ever made! Sure, cinematically it is a spectacle. However, this film was clearly a statement against America, George W. Bush, the American military, and the worshipers of God. It is an attack against America for the Iraq war, and they villanize the U.S. military, taking delight in killing them. Take note!

While they villainize the U.S. military, they make heroes of the insubordinate "tree-huggers" and goddess worshipers. Take note!

The worst move ever made. Made me cringe and wish I hadn't wasted my time and money. I left the theater and vomited it out of my mouth. Putrid garbage. The world eats this stuff like bread. God will judge the world and the minds behind this film will drown in perdition for their hatred of the Holy One!
