What Is Gleanings?

At Christianity Today, we’re constantly tracking important developments in the church and the world. Often we use our network of reporters around the world (and for that, visit our main site). But we also monitor other news outlets, bloggers, newsmakers’ social media feeds, and countless other information streams. Gleanings compiles the most urgent and interesting items we’ve found, explains why you need to know about them, and gives you the background you need to understand them. It’s our snapshot of what God is doing in the world, hour by hour.

Evel doings

Daredevil's testimony video is posted online.

Last week, we posted an article on daredevil Evel Knievel's testimony at the Crystal Cathedral, and the spontaneous mass baptisms it triggered. The Crystal Cathedral website now has video and a transcript of the event.

Comments

I hear much of the Crystal Cathedral broadcast on Sunday mornings. Week in and week out I do not hear the gospel preached there. What should we make of these spontaneous 'baptisms?'

You must not be watching the same broadcast. The gospel is present in the messages consistently, even moreso ever since Dr Robert A Schuller (son of founding pastor Robert H Schuller) was named senior pastor some time ago. Either you haven't watched the program in a long time, you're not watching the whole thing, or perhaps it's simply not presented in a manner of your liking. In any event, your comment of the gospel being absent is completey wrong.
