What Is Gleanings?

At Christianity Today, we’re constantly tracking important developments in the church and the world. Often we use our network of reporters around the world (and for that, visit our main site). But we also monitor other news outlets, bloggers, newsmakers’ social media feeds, and countless other information streams. Gleanings compiles the most urgent and interesting items we’ve found, explains why you need to know about them, and gives you the background you need to understand them. It’s our snapshot of what God is doing in the world, hour by hour.

FRC's blog hacks Huffington Post

Oh the games people play now.

The Nation's Max Blumenthal, in a Huffington Post entry, hotlinked an image over at the Family Research Council's site. FRC responded by changing the image to call Blumenthal an "image thief, fabulist, and kitten poisoner," complete with dead kitty image. Something to do while waiting for the hate crimes bill vote, I guess.

Comments

Actually, no kittens were hurt in the making of this prank (the kitten is only sleeping).

Blumenthal is such a nasty fellow that it seemed like a harmless jab to point out his foibles (he is indeed a fabulist, and technically an "image thief", though, the "kitten poisoner" part may be just a vicious rumor).

C'mon, Ted. Cut us a bit of slack. We're trying not to be so stuffy at FRC. ; )

I think the people over at FRC might have a problem with some the articles has written about Mr. Perkins. For instance, this one: ww.thenation.com/doc/20060220/blumenthal.

I don't think you should be cut any slack over at the so-called "Evangelical Outpost" considering the far-right hateful partisan bile that is spewed over there constantly.

Romans 12: 17-18

I don't know the players in this little dramedy very well, so I'm not going to take sides. I just thought it was pretty darned funny. Good one, FRC! (A cat was a good choice. If you'd called him a "puppy poisoner" your humor might have been misinterpreted as heartlessness. Not a problem with cats.)

You would think all the folks at the FRC would be out praying yesterday, as it was the National Day of Prayer. I guess this is just their way of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with Mr. Blumenthal and the readers of the Huffington Post.

Mr. Owen,

What were you doing all day yesterday? I sure hope it didn't involve any activity other than prayer...

Wonders,

I did a lot of things other than prayer yesterday. One thing I didn't do was represent a highly visible "christian" organization by playing a bunch of childish pranks on a journalist who has raised legitmate questions about that organization and saying it was just a payback for a violation of net ettiquitte...

Why did Tony Perkins buy the mailing list from the Klan?
What is the Council for National Policy?
Does the Family Research Council actually stand for christian values or are they just abusing sincere believers for political gain?

The FRC 'hotlinking lesson' went from a kitten to 14 more images the next day and an all out go for the jugular verbal war the day after that.

The new and improved less stuffy Family Research Council.

Nice to see the FRC take a brief vacation from sucking George W Bush's Dick.
