The Church of the American Experiment

Mark Galli

According to LifeNews.com, Catholic politicians are deeply offended that Pope Benedict wants the church to be the church. Benedict recently said that Catholic politicians who vote for policies that support abortion automatically excommunicate themselves. In response, a group of these politicians said, the penalty of excommunication "offend(s) the very nature of the American experiment and do(es) a great disservice to the centuries of good work the church has done."

God forbid that the church would do anything to question the American experiment.

Amen. Our highest citizenship is in heaven.

That being said though, if the Church of Jesus Christ were to be vigilantly more like the Church He designed, I'm guessing the American Experiment would be the better for it.

Ok, the pope has apparently spoken out. Now what protestant leader will dare to call the Church to respond so as to better become the Church we read about in the NT?

The holy Father in Rome forgets that his job is to spread the word, not to define that word. He is in charge of a church only, what lies within the soul of a man can not be seen, nor should it be judged by man. We should leave that to Him that has yet to return. Catholic politicians, pro life or not should be slow to act out side of the word, for the word is the rock that the house is bult upon. Excommunicate a man from your house and you stand in judgment. Love a man who differs with you, have tollerence for those who are blinded by their political views and pray to your Father that these things will be acording to his will and not any man's.
