Kay Warren on Ruth Graham
" I have admired her all my life"
From a Saddleback Church press release:
It is bittersweet to get the news about Ruth Bell Graham’s passing. However, as Christians we rejoice knowing that she has gone home to her Heavenly Father and that this day is the one that she lived her entire life for. I have admired her all my life, and particularly as a pastor’s wife, there was a great deal to glean from how she supported her husband’s ministry. She lived a life of servanthood, and in doing so was a leader and a role model to so many others. Rick and I extend our deepest sympathies to the entire Graham family as they mourn the passing of their wife and mother.

I have a photo from a 2002 Decision magazine of Bono (U2 singer / rock star) reading the poetry of Seamus Heaney to a frail Ruth Graham, eyes closed, seated in a chair before the windows, in a gray suit. I love the photo.

Death, just the mention of that word leaves with a sense of loss. Death, the same word to a Christian brings hope. Many a time we forget that we will go,, bt death keeps reminding us that we are not the permanent citizens here. We are pilgrims waiting eagerly to becalled. We He calls, we should be ready. Thanx Ruth That you were ready. May Billy and family be comforted in this hope.

This gentle lady was the embodiment of what it meant to be a Christian woman, mother, wife. We all have been enriched by her witness, and encouraged by the fact that she is with our Father in heaven watching her children pick up the mantle as Elisha did, and carry on in fine style. Blessings and peace to those who mourn. Keith Blank, Harrisburg, Pa.
