What Is Gleanings?

At Christianity Today, we’re constantly tracking important developments in the church and the world. Often we use our network of reporters around the world (and for that, visit our main site). But we also monitor other news outlets, bloggers, newsmakers’ social media feeds, and countless other information streams. Gleanings compiles the most urgent and interesting items we’ve found, explains why you need to know about them, and gives you the background you need to understand them. It’s our snapshot of what God is doing in the world, hour by hour.

Assemblies of God head steps down early

Thomas Trask has led denomination since 1993, but term was to conclude in two years.

"As a result of seeking the Lord as to His will for my continuing to serve out the remaining two years of the present term, I have reached a decision to step down as general superintendent of the Assemblies of God," Thomas Trask announced yesterday.

The Assemblies of God site and the News-Leader of Springfield, Missouri, have more coverage.

Dear Thomas,This is wonderful.Even in the midst of this corrupt generation ,we still have those who will seek God's face for the next phase and not minding influence ,pressures and ego?God will not abandon you and he will lead you to the next line of action.I will always have you in mind in my prayers.

Dear Rev. Trask, It has been several years since you screamed at me on the phone when I confronted you with your own wrongdoing. You were an out of control madman just as I was told you would be by a person I respect greatly who warned me. You gave off this aura of godliness but you abused your authority and you operated as a man with no limits to your authority, no respect for the rule of law, and you ended up ruining the ministries of good, ethical people. I doubt you will ever lift a finger to make sure justice was done to those whose ministry you ruined, whether directly or indirectly. I will not put my name here because the AG will come after my credentials if I do and I have a ministry to protect from the fallout of another encounter with you.
