CT among Tribune readers' faves.
Each year readers of the Chicago Tribune's "Tempo" section are treated to the editors' list of 50 favorite magazines. Few religious magazines make their list. And this year, no religious perspectives appeared on their June 26 honor roll.
Yesterday, the Tribune ran a list of readers' favorites to balance the shortsightedness of their list. Not surprisingly, the Atlantic and Real Simple were among those faves that the readers chided them for omitting. And here at CT, we were pleased to see our efforts were also given recognition.
Here's what they wrote about us:
Christianity Today: "Covers a broad range of issues with an open-minded and inclusive point of view for the evangelical reader, acknowledging that 'evangelical' can mean many different things."
Not sure how to parse "open-minded and inclusive for the evangelical reader," but I think that qualifies as a left-handed compliment. And as a southpaw, I'll take it.

Yes, CT is open-minded and inclusive. Even Democrats can feel welcome. Not to mention we who approve of women pastors. Thank you.

David,
Was the Tribune's list shortsighted, or a reflection of the state of religious periodicals--that they don't have as wide an influence as say, religious books do? My gut tells me its the latter. I was suprised that Guideposts didn't make the list, because of its enormous circulation.

I think that christianity today is doing a fine job. I hope that they could maybe one day do stories about different churches uniqueness.
Also I wanted to tell you about that Federal Government agencies maybe involved with some torturer antichrist mobs in southern Indiana. I live in posey county with a population of around 8,200. I know of several different murders. God has been the only one has told me about tragedies. There are 6 sexual assualt mobs and one drug cartel and crime mafia. The government has not guided me after my concussions from beatings. I have risen from the dead several times. I am really am Andy Christ of #1 Gods family. I have tried to contact US attorneys and not much questioning I wanted to file a complaint. And one day press charges.I know that organized white supremists have tried to control the federal agencies. Please inform others of mobs tricking girls and boys to gatherings and or to certain locations then brutally killing them. Thank you for your time.If you are able Please protest the government. Hill Pray! Gal 3:2!

I had to laugh... you guys are open-minded?
Please.
Christianity Yesterday might be more appropriate.

Overall, I do think that Christianity Today is open-minded, but I do think you tend to give more time to the pro-Calvinists than you do to those who disagree with Calvinism.

I honestly dont think "being inclusive" is a good thing. Many Christian sites these days do not hold to the truth of God's word as they should. However, this magazine is better than most, and I am really impressed how it does not pander to the new progressivism that is encapsulating so many Christians. I do believe however it is more important to take a stand instead of trying to please everyone. As a traditional conservative evangelical, I take a definite stance that I believe is the true one. However, I would almost rather this mag be completely liberal praising homosexual relations than trying to pander to both sides. I need to know where you stand. "Open-minded" is a postmodern term that was actually first use to criticize Christians. I dont think it is a good idea making people feel necessarily comfortable no matter what they believe. There is only one truth. Someone has to be right, someone has to be wrong. A line must be drawn determining where one stands, however some people dont like to think that hard. I really dont think that all churchgoers are Christians, for if they were, then why is there such a vast difference in doctrine. I think its time we delved into the WORD like never before and really tried to live like Christ. I am open to being wrong, but I do believe I follow the truth. I believe with all my heart that God's word is absolute truth, and it is where we will find our wnswers if we earnestly seek Him while we study, putting aside our selfish motives. There is a big problem- Christians hating one another.
