What Is Gleanings?

At Christianity Today, we’re constantly tracking important developments in the church and the world. Often we use our network of reporters around the world (and for that, visit our main site). But we also monitor other news outlets, bloggers, newsmakers’ social media feeds, and countless other information streams. Gleanings compiles the most urgent and interesting items we’ve found, explains why you need to know about them, and gives you the background you need to understand them. It’s our snapshot of what God is doing in the world, hour by hour.

Colson on the Candidates

He's not happy.

"It is the most disappointing field of candidates, looking on both sides of the aisle, that I've seen in my lifetime. I don't remember an election where less people have got me excited from either side."

The pessimist in me observes that Colson's CT article "Gorged on Politics" only comes at a time when his Republican colleauges are almost sure to lose to the Democratic candidate in '08. I wonder, if his party's prospects were better would he be so averse to politics?

Unfortunatley, I have to agree with Chuck. This election is a disaster.

By "both sides of the aisle" he means "republicans," right?

Considering Colson's history, I'd say this is actually a ringing endorsement of Democrat frontrunners.

Whichever nominees emerge from all of this will no doubt be less brazen than Nixon and his inner circle turned out to be. Maybe that's what Colson meant.
