Vick: 'I found Jesus'

Has the hound of heaven caught Vick?

From Vick's statement after pleading guilty: "Dog fighting is a terrible thing, and I did reject it. I'm upset with myself, and, you know, through this situation I found Jesus and asked him for forgiveness and turned my life over to God. And I think that's the right thing to do as of right now."

Are we as "Christians" once again judging someone's professing of accepting Jesus Christ? Is that our mission as the "Body of Christ" or to embrace those that make the profession? We wonder why people would rather join the "radical" Islamic move...
Let the body get back to the "core" of Christ: Love-Agape Love; and take time to edify one another and LET GOD DO THE SEPARATING AND THE JUDGING OF THE HEART!!!!

I thank God for making His plan of salvation known to Michael
My prayer for Michael is for him to seek out mature Christians who have his Christian growth as their only reason for helping him grow in Jesus
and.
that Michael will be like Joseph and not give in the temptations of this world.
and
will applys to his daily life a regime of bible study, and prayer and fellowship.
I would also suggest for Michael to apply the 1John1:9 principal to his life and does not compromise for worldly gain

I didn't know Jesus was lost.

This is the kind of Christ-follower that evangelicalism usually produces.

Congratulations

We should not judge Vick. We should pray for his sincerity.
The other folks who need our prayers are the myopic animal rights people. I have never seen so much hatred. It took weeks for someone to raise the issue of cock (chickens) fighting. This is way more widespread than dog fighting. I wonder if Vick had fought chickens if he would be in the same situation. But I guess people don't have chickens for pets as frequently. So there is an animal caste system.
Vick made a mistake, who among us has not. Once he pays his debt to society he should be able to return to football. It is not for us to judge unless we are on the jury. I hope the young man can turn himself around.
At least he was man enough to accept the blame. Puts him out in front of many elected officials and others.
God Bless

I hope that Michael is sincere, only God knows and time may tell, but I believe the correct response lies somewhere in the middle of many I see and hear. We should be forgiving and we should also not be foolish. I am not hear to judge either Michael or those who comment on him one way or the other. What Jesus said was, you will know them by their fruits, so we may have to just encourage him to turn it around and judge righteous judgement of both Michael and our fellow responders.
As for returning to football, that is not our decision, it is the NFL's decision and they do have policies to follow. They will do what is best for NFL football, period. Is this right? It is their reputation and name they must uphold, and they will do what they believe is right, the NFL is not a church.

But is it a sin to enege in dog fighting? Yes i know it is illegal, but is it a sin per se. Jesus spoke of Love to God and love to neighbour. But love to anaimals? I am not clear that it affects our relationship with our Lord and Saviour. Would Christ condem a person to hell beacsue he foiught dogs? aint sure. havinfg said that I am not a dog fighter, ner was, ner will be and I think it is cruel and gruesome ( but i am willing to raise roaches, centipedes, snakes and lizards to fight).

All sin is just that: sin. God allows/places rulers, leaders, to serve His purpose. They and their laws, by extension, are to serve God's purpose. We are to serve God's purpose. I deal with many inmates who "appear" to be "using" the God/Jesus "card" in their game of life. I have to remind myself that God knows the heart and the only way I may possibly know the heart is to observe one's fruit -- is their fruit the fruit of the Spirit? If so, he/she is a brother/sister. If not, he/she is a liar and is not a brother/sister. With God, per HIS Word, there is no middle ground, no "grey" area -- we're either for Him or against Him and for the devil. I would that all would come to repentance and have their sins washed away in order to join Christ when He returns.

If Mr. Vick says he found Jesus, then I say God Bless. Let that be between God and Mr. Vick and we as a body must accept a person at his word. No one can see the truth in a man's heart but God. Let's see if fruit now grows and pray that he could be a great witness for the kingdom.

My bent on this poll is that it is somewhat inappropriate. My first question is who is Michael Vick. He may be prominent in the US but as far as international readers are concerned he is a name that has just been placed before us.

Presumably, these polls are meant to include international readers. If that is the case then the topic has to be something we can relate to. I am disappointed that this poll is of such an insular nature.

With regard to the subject, are we going to have a poll for every person that professes to have "found Jesus"? As a minister and pastor I have to accept at face value any response to the Gospel that is experienced. It is not my mandate to take a poll of peers to see if it is genuine. After all the Scriptures say "by their fruits will you know them".

Please keep future polls in line with the Grace of God and the Principles of Scripture. And remember all who seek God sincerely will be forgiven. It is not for us to judge.

I would really like to believe him but I am skeptical to celebrities, getting into hot water and then finding Jesus to get leniency. Forgive me if I am wrong but I am more likely to believe someone who has a quieter faith and proclamation to someone who sounds like a clanging gong.

I pray Michael really understands what it is to follow Jesus and have a relationship with Him that will change his life now and for all eternity. I pray many believers will mentor him and help him grow and become a role model for other troubled atheletes to follow. If Michael has been given the grace to have faith than who of us should cast a stone in his direction. I pray this is a new beginning for Michael and he will be amazed what he can do when sharing the love of Jesus Christ. He could become a testimony of God's love and forgiveness. Something we forget that God did for us and is still doing for we are all sinners.

Romans 14:4 (King James Version)

4Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.

My comment is that Michael Vick is another man's servant, not yours. I am sad and sorry to see these pharisitical comments. Who art thou? And what will YOU say to our Lord when he asks you why you were judging a man's whose heart and motive you could not see.

Whose sin is greater? Those who call themselves Christians and know the Word but do not do it? Or those who live in the ignorance of spiritual blindness.

We could better spend this time judging ourselves. These polls are inappropriate and unscriptural.

after seeing his grandfather im shure mike met our savior long before he met a foot ball. yes he has had agreat talking to god and his self.now what is he going to do with it GOD KEEPMIKE THIS TIME

As Christians we have all fall short of His grace and glory. We have been redeemed and forgiven of our sins by God. Therefore we should accept Micheal Vick as a new Christian (brother) in Christ, embrace him with love and pray that the Lord will send a true Christian to minister to him.
It is not for us as Christian to judge, because in Matthew 7:1 (KJV)- Jesus tells us judge not, that ye be not judge. God is the only judge, it is not for us to do. Christains should not be like the world.
It is my prayer that how ever God see fit for Michael's punishment to be that Michael will learn from this, it will be a testimony that he will share with others, and that he will give all glory and honor to God for using this to open his eyes.
Sometimes we have to go through in order for God to get our attention. No man can do anything without God. Jesus said "I am the vine and ye are the branches" - St. John 15:5. He also said I am the way the truth and the life: no man can come to the Father except by me. St. John 14:6.
Welcome Michael Vick into the body of Christ. I rejoice to see that another has come into the Kingdom of God.

It has been said that we are shocked by sin when we should be staggered by grace! I pray that Michael has experienced God's amazing grace that saved a wretch like me and him.

I cannot judge a man's heart only God can do that, but I listened to his entire statement. He took personal resonsibility for his acts and sounded sincere in his apology to the young people he is a model for.

I have no right to judge this man. His actions have already spoken. But his remarks about needing to grow up bother me. This was not a childish act but a sick act. Greed and lack of concern for right and wrong brought this on. He got caught now he repents. Great I pray it is real. But his future actions will tell the truth. I hope his words of getting Jesus were for real. That is between him and the Lord. It is up to us to help him. But still every breaking of the law has a price. God forgives but the law sets guilt as a standard. And his sentence should be just.

I do believe that trouble sometimes brings us to a place where we want to seek God. Some people draw near in times of trouble and as soon as it is over that desire dies from lack of nourishment having fallen on rocks and not having anywhere to take root.

I think the best thing is to just ignore it. Don't take polls on it, don't speculate on it. Whether the good man really "found Jesus" or if it's a public relations ploy, it really makes no difference in the lives of most Christians, who ought to have more important things to think about. Let's move on.

I see a trend here. Paris Hilton found God while she was in jail but did she change anything in her life? No that Mike Vick has been caught he too says that he found God. But the key words came when he stated that " And I think that's the right thing to do as of right now."
Sounds to me that he is just trying to save face and his NFL career. If he really did find God, then he would realize that it is a life time event not just the right thing to do now. More of a case to say the right thing thinking that is what we want to hear.

Send Psalm 22 to M Vick and let Our Lord direct his path, I will pray for his 'New life' in Christ Jesus.

When your back is against the wall and your life is spirling downwards, who better to "find" that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We all know that God was not "lost", but I believe that was the only way Michael Vick knew to express what has been happening with him. My prayer is that we as Christians will bombard heaven on his behalf. I pray that sincere Christians will be put in his path -- even in prison -- who can minister to him and help this profession of faith become a "walk of faith". Let there be some strong Christian men who can affect his life as strongly as his longtime "friends" and family who seemed to have turned their back on him. Forget football, even after his time in prison is done, he will have a lot of years left. Michael you are in my prayers.

I'm sure that the confident naysayers would have been standing at the cross criticizing Jesus for saying to the thief that "today you'll be with Me in paradise!

I don't know whether or not Vick is sincere about "Finding Jesus"
However, if one reads John 1:12 *and* vs.13 one will see that one
does not "find" Jesus, but that God finds the sinner and God creates
faith apart from any persons' so-called "decision".

Hi,This is my first time here . Thanks forthis opportunity to say something. When we look at the world there are a lot of unhappy people with a longing for soemthing that will make them happy. For this reason we do lots of things hoping that this is the magic pill that will do the job. Nice car , big house, blood sport, traveling ,and the list goes on and on. But then we hit a snag none of these thing provide what we are looking for and in some cases we have to be made ashame before we except the fact that it was Jesus all along. Like the song says Mike, Love will bring you back. I am so happy for you now that you submit to the only one that can fill that void in us that make us do stupid things, JESUS. Mike GOD bless you and I wish you the best.

Vince

That's an awful question to ask, and and even worse one to answer. The only answer I can give is to look in the mirror and say, "What's my reponse to THAT GUY saying the he 'found Jesus?'." If I can even see around my own case of plank-eye enough to cure it, THEN I'll apply the question to Mr. Vick.

I guess my question is to those who are sceptical, if he were not black would they feel the same way?

In this day and age (especially before a person is sentenced) I would hope that this person would let judgement fall knowing that his new in Christ will speak for itself in the days ahead.

Reading through his speech I suppose he is very sincere, it takes a lot of courage to admit wrongdoing and render such blunt apology. Christ is always open to receive anyone who repents and turn to Him and in any case many people would not turn to God until they have adverse experiences. God is calling all of us.

My hope is that this confrontation with reality shakes him loose of his "bad boyz" fantasty and restores him to sanity and humanity.

A Christian should be very careful not to reject someone who claims Christ when they are in trouble. Didn't most of us "find Jesus" when we were in trouble? Also, would we be more pleased if he had said that he found Allah?, or Krishna, or the he is now a JW or Mormon (oops, I forgot, Vicks is black - maybe not Mormon) ???

What really has surprised me is that I have seen secular accounts of what Vick said and they made no mention at all of his conversion or mention of Jesus.

I voted other because it is not for me to judge but to pray for his soul. "Judge not lest ye be judged." scripture says. We are all on a journey for truth with He who is truth so may I be faithful and grow in Him who is Truth, That being Jesus the Christ.

Iam very happy to hear this and i believe that the angels in heaven are rejoiciny over him in heaven i pray God give him the grace and takes away the urge of this worldly things out of him in JESUS mighty name Amen.

only Vick and Jesus really know what is in his heart.
he has the right to Jesus as any of us do.

Way to go! He was lost, and Jesus found him when he made himself available to be found. Praise the Lord! Only, he got it the other way around.

I agree with other comments that only God knows Michael Vick's heart and I too hope he is sincere. However, because he is a celebrity in the midst of a very public expose of his sins and crimes it would have been better for him to keep quiet about it to avoid the appearance of his conversion being seen as a ploy to obtain mercy from the public, the NFL and the judicial system. After his sentencing there would be plenty of opportunity for him to deepen his reflections on his behavior and come out with a statement to a changed life that could be attested to by a few months of witnessing in prison and meeting with the chaplain and other spiritual advisors. If he is sincere it will be a testimony to God's grace, if not it will be another example of how a shallow understanding of conversion becomes a way to manipulate one's public image. True conversion will result in a life of following Christ. I hope to be able to rejoice in the example he can become.

Of course he "found Jesus" Wouldn't you if you were threathened with losing millions of dollars in endoecements and salaries? No,Vick found an excuse that will draw upon the sympathy of Idiots too ignorant to see that it is aa insidious trick .And think of it this way; would he have "found Jesus" is he never got caught? The race card was becomming too obvious,so now we have the "Jesus Card"

"I found Jesus" refers to the infestation of the written word of God through the work or ministry of the Holy Spirit in a human life of VICK. It means Jesus called the Christ has willfully by simple faith of VICK been accepted or "invited" in to start a Christ-driven life in VICK's personal behaviour and charecters. When that Jesus Christ-like life manifests itself in VICK's charecter and behaviour (actions and rections) the term "I found Jesus" is usually applied. I understand what VICK means. Congratulation VICK!! What about others, are you scared to declare Jesus as your personal Saviour & Lord?

Good luck, Michael!

A simple question: If Michael Vick has indeed found Jesus and accepted him and his forgiveness, why isn't that enough?
Why is he announcing it to anyone who cares to hear instead of quietly accepting Jesus and serving out his earthly sentence?
As it stands his behaviour strongly suggests to me the actions of a felon, using the time honoured "found Jesus" act to fool well meaning but gullible jurors, and members of the public into feeling sorry for him so that he can mitigate the trouble he is in.
