In October, Richard Roberts denied charges of misusing university funds and took a leave of absence. In November, the faculty gave him a no-confidence vote. Now, he's calling it quits.
CT's December issue (already in your mailboxes, we trust) reported on a lawsuit three former professors brought against Oral Roberts University president Richard Roberts, the university, its regents, and three administrators.
According to the CT story, the lawsuit alleges misuse of university funds to support the lifestyle of the president and his family. It also alleges that Roberts coerced students into working for a politician's campaign and that Mrs. Roberts spent the night with an underage male student. The three professors claim they were wrongly forced out of their faculty positions for having brought the irregularities to the school administration's attention.
Tonight the Associated Press is reporting that Richard Roberts has resigned and that the school will announce a presidential search within a few days. See AP story here.

As a Tulsan, I have watched this train wreck for 15 years and have often wondered how long it would take for the rest of the world to catch on. The rest of the church community will have to open their eyes to what is proper and what is not in the eyes of the IRS.

If these accusations are indeed true, which they appear to be based on what has transpired today, then before this was exposed publicly, our Faithful and Loving Father surely sent people to Richard Roberts to warn him privately, probably several times, to repent of these wrongdoings and change their ways. However, it would also appear that those warnings went unheeded.
To whom very much is given, very much is required.

Oh Lord! Enlighten the unbelievers with a sign of your presence! Test the faith of your servants Richard and Lindsay Roberts, Paul and Jan Crouch, Benny Hinn, Kenneth and Gloria Copeland, Joyce Meyers, Paula White, and Creflo Dollar as you did with your servant Job! Allow Satan to take away their riches, houses, cars, and planes, and smite them with dreadful boils. When they, as Job, refuse to curse your name, the unbeliever’s eyes may then be opened!

All this was a long time a coming....more to follow!
The most wonderful truth about GOD is HE always believes in giving a long rope to people who profess faith in HIM, but choose to live as though the believing is for the sitting ducks and not for them. When the time comes HE NEVER hesitates in exposing them, one at a time. Proof: King David, Solomon and many others in the Bible. What remains to be seen is if the likes of the present day despicable perverters of Bible (in order to suit Self Aggrandizement) will repent of wrong doing, unlike the Biblical Heroes. They confessed and were restored back in society and salvaged their pride and honor & faith in many explicit ways and the Bible is testimony to that fact.
In the case of these present day liar preachers they bring shame to themselves and the Christian Faith.
The IRS now needs to wake up and go after some ring leaders in "open defiant" hiding: Mike Murdoch, Steve Hagee, Creflo Dollar, Myles Munroe, Benny Hinn and the Biggest Ring Leader of them all: Kenneth Copeland. It is high time to go after their Aero Jets, confiscate their Rolce Royce’s, BMWs', Boats, Villas and stop the global: very possible Money Laundering that possibly happens in mid air during the long flights to the 20/40 regions.
Time to get each of these putrid people to some form of accountability to public funds, garnered by them through sympathy invoking religious messages.
I am positive if the IRS can start raiding these very mentioned folks, the deficit of the US can be entirely wiped out! They have abused the tax exemption status to the nth degree and beyond. Time to set them right.
Let the fun begin.
Thank God for faithful Christians’ who are not afraid of exposing such Gehazis, Hopheni Phineas's and Annanias & Saphiras'. In fact these whistle blower Christians should be honored for being courageous and deciding to stand for the truth in the face of stiff opposition from these Jackals & Hyenas.
All this is in God's plan all along although the likes of Roberts blame it on the Devil. Not even pretending innocence on Larry King will save any of these jokers any longer. On the lines Richard Roberts did a month ago. Shame on you. A last ditch effort I guess.
REPENT please before it gets too late and tell the others like you to stop misleading and twisting the Bible to suit your own interpretations to fill the coffers with the "Seed Planting" non biblical Business Model.
I am referring to the "Seed Planting" lie you all have effectively propagated world wide.
Finally it has come back to bite you hard and BITE it will. Many a faithful Christian who suffered under this barrage are standing up to say: ITS ABOUT TIME THIS SHAMELESS BEHAVIOR IN THE NAME OF CHRIST STOPS!

It's not all about money. Look at Larry Jones-Feed the Children closely. He and his family ride a crest of power. Look at gift in kind versus cash income. Virtually all cash is spent on overhead like TV. He sends 100 truckloads of useless paperback books that have been removed from store shelves to garbage dumps in poor areas and shows each truckload to be valued as $300,000 worth of "children educational" items. He raises $700,000 net per TV show when "spotlighting" his orphanage in Africa for 30 sick children but only sends them $30,000 cash per year. The secret is Gift in Kind and most of it is just junk. No one can stop him as everyone fears him.

Jack and others favorably disposed towards Richard Roberts & the like,
It is not right to equate the very evident carnal behaviour and life style of the likes of Richard Roberts to the Biblical Job or Abraham or others. Being rich is not the crime here.
When Bernie Ebbers, Dennis Kozlowski, Ken Lay and Jeff Skillings ...to name a few err in the Corporate World causing rampant misuse & abuse of Corporate Funds it leads to their arrests & rigorous legislation such as The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 and the accompanying rigours that follow in order to ensure Public Accountability from the Corporate World and for all the right reasons too.
My question to all who are favorably disposed towards greedy Pastors such as Roberts & Company is:
1. Should not a basic standard of Accountability be expected from them to the public who donate to the "causes" they so ingeniously propagate ?
2. Would any of these greedy folks dare to publish their Audited Accounts on their web sites ?
If they were mandated to do it by law then neither the media would wash the dirty linen of Roberts and Company in public as is bound to happen in the days and weeks to come.
It is good that it is happening.
PLEASE, PLEASE Idealistic minded Believers stop living in utopia and imagine the best about such people. They are no different from Ebbers or Lay or Skilling in their devious mind set.
Please re investigate your mind sets to correctly assess these bunch of hoodlums. Don't become the fuel to help such people.
Let the IRS handle it from hence forth. The Bells are beginning to toll for them and it is time that the Augean Stables were cleaned of this Riff Raff.
The good news is there are many ministries in the US that are aware of their responsibility and accountability to their congregations.
& I may add: they too grow and add faithfuls to the church day by day. This fact spans across denominations.
God bless,

When I asked a pastor a question regarding self-confidence, so I can do my job, he told me that s I n the middle of sin is I. These pastors/tele evangelist are HYPOCRITES bec. they do not practice what they preach. The bible says 'DENY YOURSELF, CARRY YOUR CROSS & FOLLOW CHRIST.' These LOVERS OF MONEY OBVIOUSLY ARE THINKING OF THEM 'SELVES', & HAVE LUST FOR MONEY, & GREED! Now I can say that their I is the middle of SIN!!!! HYPOCRITES!!!!! THEY SHOULD GET A JOB SO THEY CAN UNDERSTAND THE POLITICS AT WORK, MINIMUM WAGE & OTHER STRESS THAT COMES WITH A JOB! THEY JUST SIT DOWN & GET RICH WITHOUT MAKING ANY EFFORTS!! LAZINESS IS ALSO A SIN!!

From afar I do not know whether any of the allegations are true or false, but the faculty no-vote is quite alarming in light of the lawsuits.
I fear that we as pastors and teachers have done a poor job in discipling Christians, particularly at understanding the nature and devastation of evil.
Jesus unmasked evil personified when he called Satan 'the father of lies'. DECEIT is at the core of evil, and disciples must see and hear that in plain terms. Disciples live their lives in the light, out in the open, making sure that deceit is not allowed a foothold in our personal or corporate lives.
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth, not the spirit of deceit. God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.
Whether it is Enron or a Christian ministry or a family issue, deceit is the turf that evil loves to walk upon. Whether adultery, or stealing or fraud or cooking the corporate books or refusing to reveal all material facts or confusing shareholders with off balance sheet configurations that veil the truth, or covering up unauthorized spending, evil runs wild with devastation when it deceives and misleads.
Disciples of Jesus Christ must be equipped to live in the light, expect our churches and families and ministries to live in the light, and invite the light into all things that relate to money, sex, and power. Like the proverb of old, disciples must 'see the danger that lies ahead and hide themselves from it.'
If we are not equipping Christians to see the dangers and seductive temptations of living deceitful lives for selfish gains, we will not be the salt of the earth to anyone.
I have no inside knowledge or personal reason to make a judgement about Mr. Roberts and his guilt or innocence.
How much anyone avoids the light, tries to get around the light, or shuts out the light tells me a lot about what kind of turf they are walking on, especially when it comes to money, sex, and power. Restoration for accused men and women of God usually comes when there is no equivocation on any front about walking in the light.
May God teach all of us how to crucify the temptation to deceive and to know the joy of being like that remarkable Israelite, Nathaniel. No wonder Jesus was so evocative when he exclaimed, "Behold, an Israelite in whom there is not guile."
Being crucified with Christ is, I am convinced, in no small way related to recognizing deceit and refusing to deceive others or ourselves about anything. Only then are we truly walking in the Light and living truth-filled lives.

I am somewhat surprised at the postings. I know not about the real truth in these matters. But I do hope that we will prayerfully consider all we hear and see through the filter of Jesus Christ. Any "black eyes" concerning these people mentioned in the postings and Richard Roberts will be perceived to be "black eyes" on the Church as a whole...let us hope and pray that we are able to experience God's justice and mercy in these matters.

Let him who is innocent cast the first stone. Shame on us the body of Christ for saying such things about a brother who has stumbled. Where is your compassion. He who cannot bridle his tongue has no self discipline. Beware lest you fall into the sin of your weakness.

Perhaps I missed it . . . along with the resignation has he also repented?
Posted by: Dan Phillips at November 26, 2007
You have not missed any thing, Dan.
Resigned from ORU: YES, His repenting is a matter of "supervening impossibility". To quote a legal term.
He is hiding behind his Jericho Wall: "ORAL ROBERTS MINISTRIES".
Next Steps in the right direction would be:
1. Resigning from ORAL ROBERTS MINISTRIES
Repentence will follow thereafter. It will be a natural coralary to Step 1. But Step 1 will not come to pass.
So there will not be a Repentence. There are plenty of sychophants and charlatans who need to survive and they will pander up and get some of the spoilage from "ORAL ROBERTS MINISTRIES" to keep him and the gang going.
You see they have had a field day of "Accountability to No One" for well over 4 decades.
It is taking the US army so long with all the technology to get rid of the Muslim Taliban in Afganistan adn Iraq.
The "Christian Taliban's like Roberts" will also take time to repent and to be weeded out. Senator Chuck Grassley has started cleaning the Augean Stables. The splendor of it all will surely but steadily unfold.
I have faith in the US Legislators and their conscience to bring about genuineness in this long neglected arena. Legislation is the only way to bring this kind to book. The LORD will not delay in that matter.
Note: I have nothing against Roberts and his kind personally, but the zeal for the Lord urges me comment and encourage the people in authority to look beyond the dense fog Roberts and party perpetrate.
Frankly I doubt Hinn, Roberts etc believe what they preach.
Why should they ? That's for the masses.
Why should they even want Christ to come again at all: While they enjoy Heaven here on earth at HIS expense.....they think foolishly.
While they can rake in millions with some new fangled way waiting around the bend.
I personally go to churches in my city when ever these pedlers are in town to watch them commit their igniminous tom foolery in HIS name.
I have seen Murdoch, Hinn and Roberts in action many times and always wondered: when Lord when, will you deal with these types ?

dear brothers and sisters,
We are all sinners. We all need Jesus everyday to overcome the enemy.Let us be watchfull and alert and pray without ceasing. We all fail.
If our brother has done wrong, we who are spiritual should restore him gently.Let us pray that we may build him up, in brotherly love.
Gal5:22-6:5
When we see a brother or sister who sins, let us do what Jesus said in Matthew 18:15-17.
God bless you richly,
Fred from Toronto,Canada.

to jim - why is it that when you discuss issues with these pastors teleevangelist, the first thing they do is to look for something to accuse or they'cast the first stone'. But when they are the ones who sin, they defend it by using the 'ye not judge verse'. STOP JUSTIFYING YOUR SINS BY DEFENDING YOURSELF USING 'YE NOT JUDGE!' SIN IS SIN & practice what they preach. they think that just bec. they are pastors they think that they are perfect & sinless. they do not work, that is why they do not know issues that people face everyday. HYPOCRITES!!

Public accountability is not just a desirable add-on to a Christian's faith; it is fundamental to being a Christian. Perhaps the most prominent exemplar is Jesus himself, nailed naked to a cross and exposed to the scrutiny of all and sundry, be they followers or scoffers. Furthermore, there seems to be no qualification on who has the right to do the scrutinizing. No one builds a city on a hill and then hides it. God builds His city in full public view, so that passers-by will ask "who lives there?". We should be highly intolerant of any Christian leaders who prefer to hide in the darkness rather than walk into the confrontation and liberation of the Light of the World.

It is time that the house gets cleaned up. If that means that discipline must come in whatever form, then let it be. There is already a black eye on the church in America as we backbite and fight and split churches everywhere. There must be accountability for all of those who proclaim themselves to be spiritual leaders of churches, universities and all other areas of ministry. No one is above this. The punishment should be swift and stiff so that others will not be enticed by Satan to follow in these footsteps. All who misuse their power in the name of God need to be removed and new leaders and shepherds who love God and desire to walk obediently should be given their place.

Koshy, what makes you think these imposters are brothers and sisters in Christ. Christians really need to study the Bible. We are warned throughout the Bible about false teacher, false prophets and the like.
Jesus said His sheep know His voice and a stranger's voice they will not follow. Listen to what Jesus said in Math 15:13-14: "Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be pulled up by the roots. Leave them; they are blind guides. If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit.
There is so much scripture warning God's children of these people, but we have to read it for ourselves, because they will never teach these scriptures. These scriptures expose them to be sheep in wolve's clothing.
Read the following scriptures to gain an understanding about these "experts in greed": Jer 23 (the entire chapter), Eze 13 (the entire chapter), Mal 2:1-9, Ro 16:17-19, 2 Co 11:1-15, Gal 1:6-9, Eph 5:1-17, Phil 3:17-20, Col 1:24-Col 2:5, 2 Thes 2; 1 Ti 6:3-10, 2 Ti 3, 2 Tim 4:1-4, 2 Pe 2, and Jude. There are many more I could mention, but this is enough for you to understand that these people are enemies of the gospel. The prosperity gospel is a lie and clearly contradicts multiple scriptures in the Bible.
Study the word of the living God! Act 17:11 says, "Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true." We have to study the entire Bible for ourselves and stop ignoring the Holy Spirit when He reveals God's truth to us. Let God be true and every man a liar (Ro 3:4)! As for you, the anointing you received from Him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as His anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit--just as it has taught you, remain in Him (1 Jo 2:27).
God bless those who know the truth, because the truth will make them free. And what is truth? God's word is truth.
