What Is Gleanings?

At Christianity Today, we’re constantly tracking important developments in the church and the world. Often we use our network of reporters around the world (and for that, visit our main site). But we also monitor other news outlets, bloggers, newsmakers’ social media feeds, and countless other information streams. Gleanings compiles the most urgent and interesting items we’ve found, explains why you need to know about them, and gives you the background you need to understand them. It’s our snapshot of what God is doing in the world, hour by hour.

Sean Taylor's Spiritual Journey

Redskins' star safety had been turning his life around.

After Washington Redskins football player Sean Taylor was murdered in his Miami home on December 3, there were whispers that his rough lifestyle was to blame. In an article for the Adventist Review, Mark Kellner, news editor, says au contraire:

At the time of his murder, Sean Taylor was running, but with God's crowd at the Perrine Seventh-day Adventist Church in Miami. Peay believes he was making a run towards heaven - and away from his former ways.

During a late night conversation last October with Peay at an International House of Pancakes restaurant in College Park, Maryland, Taylor reaffirmed a decision he'd made earlier in 2007 to return to the Adventist Church and to the Lord.

According to Peay, Taylor said, "Pastor, I love going home to see my daughter. I'm not with all that other stuff anymore."

I find the sad thing about this is that he turned to the SDA church. The prophet of the SDA church is also responsible for the formation of the SDA church. She (Ellen White, prophet) used the phrase "his satanic majesty" at least 53 times in her books. What would you think of any minister who would say that phrase in one of his sermons, let alone 53 times? This phrase is not of God, nor is this "prophetess", nor is the SDA church. This phrase that the SDA prophetess uses is really telling you who her authority was. Very sad when people get mixed up with this cult.

That's a bizarre phrase to focus on. How 'bout focusing on what she says about Jesus. Try reading "Steps to Christ." Her writings are about Jesus--and that's who Taylor met in the Adventist Church of his youth.

I've been an SDA all of my life...read many EGW books and never once saw, heard, or read the phrase "his satanic majesty." You are greatly mistaken. The SDA church salvific doctrine is mainstream Protestant. Jesus Christ alone (remember Luther) is what saves us.
First, you need to research (define) what a cult is, and then you need to do more research about SDAs. You'll find you are greatly mistaken a 2nd time.
