What Is Gleanings?

At Christianity Today, we’re constantly tracking important developments in the church and the world. Often we use our network of reporters around the world (and for that, visit our main site). But we also monitor other news outlets, bloggers, newsmakers’ social media feeds, and countless other information streams. Gleanings compiles the most urgent and interesting items we’ve found, explains why you need to know about them, and gives you the background you need to understand them. It’s our snapshot of what God is doing in the world, hour by hour.

Worst Business Alliance Ever?

BigChurch.com's new owner.

The Left Behind Games name change caught my attention, but I almost missed another interesting Christian media story this week. Social networking site BigChurch.com, which has apparently always been one of the sketchier Christian dating sites, has a new owner.

Penthouse Media Group.

Forget the moral issues for a moment -- Kind of makes you wonder how good at compatible matchmating the site is, doesn't it?

Why is this such a surprise. Christianity, Inc. has been selling its soul to the dollar for years. Look at the (so-called) Christian book industry. Mammon replaced money in consideration of most books, etc. Sad day for Christians.

Makes me wonder what folks are praying for.

This is off putting. But then I wonder if there is a major media company that isn't deep down antiChristian. They are structured around money and are, 'of the world.' We are, 'in the world but not of it.'Deal with Penthouse and there is a giant up front sell out. With NBC it would be thousands of minute, hardly noticed sell outs that might slowly warp the soul. Though best to not deal with either if it can be helped.

Yea Tim, God forbid a Christian might actually have a capitalist impuslse!

Tim R...I couldn't have said it better. I would only add that the psudo-christianity that exists today is whoring with the world (Rev 17), and II Thes 2, seems to be coming to pass before our eyes, "And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness." The early stages of the delusion seem to be setting in.

Absolutely amazing and sickening.
