Huckabee campaigns on SNL

Tongue in cheek, the presidential candidate hangs around "Weekend Update" a little too long

"I'm not a math guy. I'm more of a miracle guy."

The words of Mike Huckabee a few minutes ago on "Saturday Night Live's" mock news show "Weekend Update." The former Arkansas governor was there to explain, in self-deprecating form, why he remains in the race for the Republican presidential nomination even though he'd still be trailing John McCain if he swept each and every remaining delegate.

"Mike Huckabee does not overstay his welcome," he said. "When it's time for me to go, I'll know. And I'll exit out with class and grace."

He then remained behind the anchors' desk, even after anchor Seth Meyers made it clear it was time to go.

We believe it is GOOD that he keeps talking with such a good attitude and message. He doesn't "give up" on sharing good words and thoughts.

Classic! It's good to see a 'Politician' who isn't hyper-sensitive about his position. He played it really well.

I thought the Huckabee segment on Saturday Night Live was fun-loving wholesome humor and showed a fine light side of the presidential candidate. His participation left little concern that he was a stiff cold-temperament Christian. However, Saturday Night Live is too often rude and foul in content. Some might argue that it is not a good venue for a Christian candidate. Both sides of that argument will have good points, but both will be left without absolute resolution of the wisdom of Huckabee's participation on the show. So,leave the decision with him. I would not have participated, perhaps for my concern over the risque nature of the show, but probably more so because I could not match the humor and stage presence of Huckabee. Even though I give the candidacy of McCain a slight edge over the govenor on the broader scale of considerations, I feel Huckabee is a special Christian and a wholesome injection into the presidential selection process. I would imagine the Saturday Night Live audience got that impression too.

May I recommend that everyone READ R. Kesslers article for Feb. 25, 08 concerning the QUOTE from the (FEMALE) President of the Black-Republican Caucus of the U. S. Congress, Frances Rice! In the article she VERY SUCCINCTLY points out that the political party that was originally responsible for the promotion of SLAVERY IN THE U.S. was the DEMOCRAT PARTY...and it actually did so for almost 100 years. Remember that Abraham Lincoln was Republican, and ACTUALLY, The REV. MARTIN LUTHER KING was a REPUBLICAN. All the more reason for an EVANGELICAL REPUBLICAN to remain in the race for the Presidential nomination of the U.S.A. HOW QUICKLY the SOCIALISTS REWRITE HISTORY. I have lived and worked in the former Soviet Union for 16 years (as the Revolution was seeing its fruition. The U.S.A. BETTER REMAIN ALERT and READY!!!!One of the Communist leaders said, "Tell a lie often enough, and loud enough, and people will soon believe it to be true.

Huckabee gives voice to people who care most about life, marriage and the moral climate America. At the leeast, his staying in the race gives us a chance to register that belief.

Mike Huckabee has every right to stay in the race. It is his call!
As a former congressional campaign director, I know there are strategies in moves like these. What they say publicly and what they have yet to say publicly are all a part of political strategies. We should not be too superficial in our determinations about why he stays in,I am sure there are some things going on that we will find out about if we continue to watch and listen. We should try to relax and enjoy the process; it could be an exciting convention and beyond.

Blessings

Can we not see by the fact that he is not working heavily in the contested states that the purpose for his staying in is mostly to keep Republicans and conservative ideals in the media? Without his wisdom, the liberal media would dominate and further diminish the ability of (family)values voters and other Christian conservatives to have a voice in the media (Save Fox News).
Mike Huckabee is showing, by example, what it means to serve even at the cost of being labled as unwelcome.
So did Jesus. Lord bless you Mike.

Huckabee has continued to speak out when many would wish him silenced. Both sides would have wished him silenced on SNL. One group is appalled that he might be perceived in a positive light and thus perceived as credible. The other group is appalled that he should appear among the crude and lude. Jesus made a point to eat with the tax collector that he might be seen and heard and to disseminate the truth. He made a point to address the Pharisee and puncture their preconceptions. I think Huckabee is in good company. Win or lose, he has been a clear voice in a muddy campaign.

Yes, it is definitely Mike Huckabee's call how long he should remain! It gives the American people a great opportunity to hear real God-given wisdom rendered with class and yet with great humility. Finally, here is someone in politics who is a straight shooter--no hype, no spin. He looks at people straight in the eye and says what he really believes, and for me for one, I truly like everything I am hearing. Finally here is someone in politics that cannot be accused of changing his position, no flip-flopping according to the prevailing winds of his audience. He doesn't hedge,he comes across as the real deal. He is most the statesman-like man we have in the political arena right now and whether or not it happens this election or next, Mike Huckabee will make one of the great presidents of this century, I truly believe.

Huckabee should be the republican Nominee 08.

Texas & Ohio could and should help him through.

The libreral media have been trying to push McCain so that the Dem will win in November
Even among McCain's "hireling", there is a top media advisor who said he will stop advertising for McCain when Obama is nominated. And Why the NYT "endorsed" McCain then tried to destroy him with smear.

So do not listen to evil press & advertisments.

Only Huckabee can defeat the "Goliath".

VOTE HUCKABEE
Bring Blessings back to America.

(I regard all people who are trying to ridicule Hukabee or asking him to quit as "ELECTION ABORTIONIST".

All men are created equal. Who gave them the right to stop Huckabee via media & strongarm.

I therefore believe that these "ELECTION ABORTIONIST" must also be anti-life abortionists.
No wonder Gov. Perry supported Giluini (pro-abortion).

Huckabee for President.
He is staying for the unborn, the weak and the poor too!!!!

"One of the Communist leaders said, "Tell a lie often enough, and loud enough, and people will soon believe it to be true."

Really? Which leader? I'd be interested in seeing you name the leader, name the original source where it appears -- and, most of all, I'd be interested in seeing you go to a library and try to actually find it in that source.

There are dozens of phony Communist "quotes" like this one which were widely circulated in the 1950s and 1960s by well-meaning (but gullible) right-wingers. They sincerely believed these were genuine quotes -- because they had been told this by others as well-meaning (but gullible) as themselves.

In 1969 Morris Kominsky wrote a book, The Hoaxers, listing several dozen of these phony quotes and telling of his correspondence with various public figures who ignorantly passed these phony quotes along.

It's interesting that you know a communist leader said this -- but you don't seem to know which one. If it's a genuine quote, you should be able to find a newspaper account of the occasion on which he said it, or some other primary source.

If it's a fake, then all you are going to find are second-hand, third-hand, fourth-hand, etc., accounts by people like yourself. You'll find letters to the editors "quoting" it. You'll find politicians "quoting" it. You'll find opinion pieces on editorial pages and in magazines "quoting" it. You'll even find right-wing writers such as Phyllis Schlaffly "quoting" it. What you won't find is an actual source where the person being "quoted" said or wrote it.

There are enough bad things that Communists really have said and done -- just as there enough bad things that we in the US have said and done -- that there is no need to make up or pass along false "quotes". That's not what Jesus tells us to do, nor what the Old Testament tells us.

As you correctly point out, if people tell a lie often enough and loud enough, soon others will come to believe it. In this case, though, I fear you are the one who believed the lie -- and is passing it on to others.

Why Huckabee stays in the race is up to him. There are many positive things to it. It is a covered forum from which to communicate what he stands for. It is relevent in terms of political posturing. It keeps coverage on the GOP that would not be "news" without him. It will promotes ongoing discussions within the GOP.

I liked him better earlier in the campaign, when he was less political. Getting elected is a huge tactical game. Thirty years ago I was advised "you can't win votes, you can only loss them, so don't take positions." Thirty years later, there is little I have seen that does not confirm this. Votes are made based on perceptions, more often than reality.

"Tell a lie often enough, and loud enough, and people will soon believe it to be true." This general statement is attributed to Stalin. I have found it to be the most offensive up close and personal in the American Political arena. Forteen years as an honest elected officals chief operating officer has provided many distastful insights.

I'm glad God is in control, I just try to do what he put in front of me. It the highest office in the Church still "servant"?

wes hagen

Huckabee makes our current president look like an honer student. This guy and his brand of thecradic nonsence would turn america into a country run by an elite wealthy few who adhere to a ltmus test, and otehrwise a total third world country for the rest of us. He is an enemy to the American people and way!!

Dave,

It is theocratic, honor student; do you mean an elite few like the Kennedy's? Have you ever been to a third world country?

The real enemy to our nation is self-righteous ignorance on both ends of the spectrum.
