Do Jews Go to Heaven?
The podcast of my discussion with a rabbi.
Last March I wrote a column, "Why Evangelize the Jews?," that advocated Jewish evangelism. This sparked a frank online exchange with Rabbi Yehiel Poupko, Judaic Scholar at the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago, followed by a joint appearance on National Public Radio's "Tell Me More" program. Now the Yehiel and Stan roadshow has moved to "Extension 720," a two-hour discussion program on WGN-AM, hosted by the legendary Dr. Milt Rosenberg (who, not incidentally, this week was awarded the 2008 National Humanities Medal by President Bush). To go to the podcast of our exchange, which occurred on Wednesday, November 19th, click here.

My husband is Jewish and his father was sent to the US when he was 13 with a full scholarship to MIT for mathmatics. Most of the rest of his family were left in Poland. My husband Grandfather was a High Holy Rabbi in Poland and through many generations back came from High Holy Rabbi originally coming from Austria. When Hitler invaded Poland his family were one of the first to go. (Murdered) My husbands father joined the US Army to go and fight in WWII, never to here from his family, nor knew what happened in the final days of their lives. Unfortunately, this kept him away from the Temple, which was not uncommon for the survivors to rebel against God and the Temple. I have been reading the Old Testement and understanding more about the Jewish religion and God's relationship with them. Since Abraham and Moses the Jews have been made slaves, the rebeled against God many times, however, God never breaks a promise and Promised Abraham and Moses that the Jews are God's chosen people. When Jesus was crucified on the Cross, which I might add was also a Jew. He died was decended into Hell, fought Satan and won the keys to Heaven back and when he ascended to Heaven so did the Jews that were in pergutory, Abraham, Moses, ect. also went to heaven. This does not mean that they can skate along. NO!!!!! They must worship God and obey God and life a righteous life to the best of their ability. Pray and read daily just as we have to!! And recognize their High Holy days.
In answer to this question! YES! I believe that the Jews are God's chosen people and they will go to Heaven, we as Christians have our responsibilities as well. We are to teach others and bring them to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit that dwells within us. Baptize those who have not been, pray fervently, daily, and continue to read God's word. Live by His principles, know each of our Spiritual Gifts and use them only for the glory of God. I don't know about you, but I want nothing more than for me and my family to go to Heaven, the highest Heaven. I want to serve God for the rest of my life here on earth and for eternity. I just pray that He directs me on the path He wants for me to go!
God Bless All of You!!!
Have a wonderful Holiday Season, (my favorite time of year)

The interview with Stan Guthrie never even discussed if Jews went to heavan, also i am offended that the rabbi said that it was christians who murdered jews in the hollocaust, and Stan seemed to agree with him. how could any follower of Christ commit such attrocities. Jesus said you would know his disciples by the LOVE they had not only for one another but even for enemies.
I object totheir accusations.

It doesn't matter who you are or what religion you are. If you don't believe Jesus is the Messiah and that you have to ask Him to save you and to forgive you of your sins and live your life for Him you are not going to Heaven to be with Him.
Now the question is do Jewish people believe Jesus was the Messiah, the man who was born of a virgin (Mary) and died on the cross for our sins and rose again three days later? I don't know much about Jewish religion but from my understanding most of them don't believe this, and they are as human as the rest of us. There are no acceptions.

When confronted with the Gospel of Christ, a non-believer must accept Christ as Lord and Savior in order to be Saved. People before Christ were Saved by their dependence on the revelation that God had given them. I am not sure what happens to a person today who has never heard the Gospel of Christ. C. S. Lewis seemed to believe that the sin of Pride was what keeps people from the presence of God. It may be that a truly humble non-Christian may be Saved by the Grace of Christ without actually knowing Christ in this World. But we don't know that. What we do know is that we must preach Christ to all the people of the World. This includes Jews, Mormons, Moslems and all other unbelievers. The Christian Church is the New Israel and Jews are no longer Israel unless they are saved by Jesus.

John 3:7- "You must be born again." These are Jesus's words. The Bible is 100% clear--God regenerates those he chose before the foundation of the world. You MUST believe that Jesus is the Messiah! Romans 8-10 is CLEAR; not all of ethnic Israel belongs to spiritual Israel. Unregenerated Jews do not go to heaven. Plus, they wouldn't want to anyway--it's all about Jesus!! This is an unbiblical belief, it is heresy, there is absolutely no ground in it, and it's straight up wrong. Read for yourself if you doubt.

I am a believer in Jesus Christ. But my family and I are all Jews. My immediate family, and my wife and I and her family are Christians. While I do not doubt the divine intercession of Jesus on my behalf, I struggle with whether Jews, my loved family will be in Heaven. I know myself am sealed to Him, but I don't understand where my fellow Jews who still believe in the God of Abraham stand.
I especially struggle with this, as family members get older. My mom, my grandpa, my grandma all were Jews and all have passed away. It breaks my heart that I won't see them... I know I believe that Jesus is the way, the Truth and the life, and that none shall come to the father accept through Him. But it still hurts, now that I know that truth.
Please pray that I find peace with the answers that I know the Lord will give me, and that I have the courage to even ask the question, and give me comfort in Him.

interesting... to the Jewish Christan Jon Aronoff! Keep reading and reading you will find it :) its something you cant be told! But dont be sad! It may be better than you hope for! but i can give you this assurance there is no need in worrying about the dead! You do hafta except Jesus Christ! BUTTTT perhaps there is an elect! Perhaps there is a reason for the rejection! Perhaps its not by choice! My brother its better to come to him than not for sure! A Jewish Christian is a special christian in my opinion! So be glad you have found him! But there may be a reason many do not! And it may not be by choice! read the new testament again! and again!

First of all, I have to say that I am Jewish and I have accepted Jesus as my Messiah. It is my personal beleif that we, the Jewish people, will be saved and go to heaven, as promised in Romans 11. It is ridiculous to beleive that the G-d who chose us above all other peoples would damn us to hell! There is a second coming of Yeshua, and this time we will see that he is HaMashiach, the Messiah!! ALL ISRAEL (THE JEWISH PEOPLE) SHALL BE SAVED!! The Bible is confirms this and is very clear!

If you look up "child of God" such as at biblegateway.com, you'll see that it only refers to believers. In fact, nonbelievers are referred to as children of the devil. RC Sproul has a good book called "The Holiness of God", and once we recognize how holy our God is, we start feeling how blessed we truly are, those who believe, for we don't deserve to be with God. Yet He loved us enough to sacrifice His Son, so that those who believe in Him as their Lord and Savior will be saved. We all deserve to go to hell, but He is compassionate about His children, and we'll be able to spend eternity with Him. There are lots of verses about this, but here are 4. Notice it says "believe" when it talks about children of God. Although these verses are not from Romans, Romans is a good book to study regarding this too.
"But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name." John 1:12
"See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him." 1John 3:1
"By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who does not love his brother." 1John 3:10
Believers are indwellt by the Holy Spirit, and it's the Holy Spirit that changes our hearts from being evil to hearts that want to please God, because of the love we have for our Father. Those who practice sin, such as homosexuality or fornication, are not practicing righteousness and they are not of God, and like the verse says, it's obvious to believers that those who continually practice sin love their sin more than they love their God. God doesn't want anyone to go to hell, but most people do not want to believe in God and what His Word teaches, He gives them that choice. God wouldn't want to force people to be with Him who don't want to be with Him.
John 3:18 "Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son."

Hi! I am Jewish and do not believe in Christ in any capacity of Lord and Savior. However, I get confused when I hear Christians refer to G-d as Jesus and Jesus as G-d but then Jesus was the son of G-d? I have no idea what the Holy Spirit is as G-d/Jesus relationship is confusing enough.
Any clarification would be appreciate!

Hi Stephen, this doesn't directly answer your question, although I'd love to spend time explaining why you should believe in Jesus as the Messiah. He fulfilled hundreds of prophecies that are in the Old Testament. He was from the tribe of Judah, in Micah it says a Savior would be born in Bethlehem, it says He would be betrayed for 30 pieces of silver in Zechariah 11 and it was fulfilled in Matthew, and many more examples.
But I thought I'd bring up part of the article by Arnold Fruchtenbaum, who was or is with "Jews For Jesus", and the article name is "Jewishness and the Trinity." Of course you know "The Shema Deut 6:4 "Hear o Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one! It has always been Israel's great confession. It is this verse more than any other that is used to affirm the fact that God is one and is often used to contradict the concept of plurality in the Godhead. But is it a valid use of this verse?
On one hand, it should be noted that the very words "our God" are in the plural in the Hebrew text and literally mean "our Gods." However, the main argument lies in the word "one," which is a Hebrew word, echad. A glance through the Hebrew text where the word is used elsewhere can quickly show that the word echad does not mean an absolute "one" but a compound "one." For instance, in Genesis 1:5, the combination of evening and morning comprise one (echad) day. In Genesis 2:24, a man and a woman come together in marriage and the two "shall become one (echad) flesh." In Ezra 2:64, we are told that the whole assembly was as one (echad), though of course, it was composed of numerous people. Ezekiel 37:17 provides a rather striking example where two sticks are combined to become one (echad). The use of the word echad in Scripture shows it to be a compound and not an absolute unity.
There is a Hebrew word that does mean an absolute unity and that is yachid, which is found in many Scripture passages,2 the emphasis being on the meaning of "only." If Moses intended to teach God's absolute oneness as over against a compound unity, this would have been a far more appropriate word. In fact, Maimonides noted the strength of "yachid" and chose to use that word in his "Thirteen Articles of Faith" in place of echad. However, Deuteronomy 6:4 (the Shema) does not use "yachid" in reference to God."
end of article...
John 1:1 says "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God and the Word is God" John 1:14 says "and the Word became flesh". John 1:3 and elsewhere say that Jesus created all things. In Genesis, it says God did, so clearly Jesus is God. Jesus was not flesh until He came to the earth in about 4BC. And when He died and rose again, He said He would leave the Comforter (the Holy Spirit) with us.
Just because our minds can't comprehend the aspects of God such as His omniscience, omnipresence, and omnipotence, or how He created the world out of nothing, doesn't mean it's not the truth. The same with the Trinity. We believe in one God, in 3 persons, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. But one God.

To ALL who are not saved: The KJV states this concerning Jesus and God the Father @ Hebrews 1:3: "Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;"
Also Acts 4:11 & 12 "This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders (Jewish leadership), which is become the headstone of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." Peter preached this right after Pentecost. Jesus became "God in the flesh" at Bethlehem (house of bread)and later said of himself "I am the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE and NO MAN cometh unto the Father but by me. Whether one is a Jew, a Muslim, an Athiest or whatever, to make Heaven your home you MUST accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior confessing your sins to HIM and asking for forgiveness. If for what ever reason one does not, Hell will be your home for eternity. Jesus spoke as much or more about Heaven as he did Hell. There is a Heaven to be gained and a Hell to shun. In Jesus name.

Please help me understand, I used to be Christian, but now have second thoughts.
If Jesus said Love Ur neighbour as your self: then why
would He deny his own people into Heaven? Im seriously confused.
If He says He is dying for the Sins of everyone in the World, then why does He put conditions of going to Heaven. then?
I mean Jews & Muslims Pray 5 times a day, Fast etc,are you telling me God is in Heaven looking at these people and saying, shame their all wasting their time.
Please help understand, i Loved Jesus when growing up, but now that im grown, Im more confused by him.

hi am amani,am a christian and i would just like to add that all jews that blieve in the old testment are going to heaven ,if you read romans 11-(28 As far as the gospel is concerned, they are enemies for your sake; but as far as election is concerned, they are loved on account of the patriarchs, 29 for God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable. 30 Just as you who were at one time disobedient to God have now received mercy as a result of their disobedience, 31 so they too have now become disobedient in order that they too may now[h] receive mercy as a result of God’s mercy to you. 32 For God has bound everyone over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all.)-so i that u the jews for being hart headed so that God can qualify us to cross-that why it says His way is not our way-no1 can understand God and his mercy
