An 18-year-old female who had lost her unborn child in a weekend collision with MercyMe's tour bus has also died, bringing the total number of fatalities to four. LiveBlog had reported on the accident on Monday; the young woman, Kara Klinker of Fort Wayne, Indiana, died Tuesday afternoon.

MercyMe, a popular Christian rock band, released this statement on Wednesday after learning of the woman's death: "Our hearts continue to break for these families and all those who knew them. We continue to pray and ask your prayers for everyone affected by this accident, that God would bring healing, comfort, peace and understanding at a time when they are desperately needed."

Another reminder that "bad things happen to good people." I don't dispute that some "acts of God" are blessings, requested or otherwise, but the notion that faith in Christ confers nothing but "showers of blessing" can be simplistically misunderstood. The same one who told us that "all things work together for good to them that love God..." also suffered imprisonment, privation, and eventual execution. How many have faltered in their faith by thinking 'how can a good God exist when ______________ has occurred'? Somewhere in that person's mind exists an infantile notion of God reminiscent of Santa Claus. We need to avoid implanting such ideas in the young.

I believe all "acts of God" are good. God cannot act in any other way than loving and good. When bad things happen God's heart is saddened just like ours. God may allow bad things to happen, but this does not mean it is an act from Him. Bad things happen because there is sin in the world, not because God is malicious or seeking revenge. God is good, and all things from Him are good.
