Denver Seminary's Vernon Grounds Dies at 96
Vernon Grounds, chancellor of Denver Seminary and a prominent founder of the evangelical movement, died on September 12 in Wichita, Kansas. He was 96.
Denver Seminary, where Grounds served for more than 60 years, offers a biography and this tribute:
Considered one of the foremost leaders and thinkers in the founding of the evangelical Christian movement, Dr. Grounds remained central in its development over the past 60 years. He was known for his lifelong commitment to social action, concern and care for the needs of the poor and under-represented, and a mentor to local, regional, national and international leaders. Dr. Grounds will be deeply missed by the seminary family and countless friends around the world who were influenced by his kind words, wise counsel, and godly leadership and example.
Gordon MacDonald, popular Christian author and an alumnus of the seminary, offered this tribute to CT's sister publication, Leadership.

Vernon Grounds' biography Transformed by Love: The Vernon Grounds Story is one of the most helpful biographies I have read in recent years. He was truly a model Christian leader and an example of integrity and theological maturity at a time both these are greatly needed qualities.

Was deeply impacted by Dr.Grounds articles in the American His magazines, the mid 70s issues.I was then appointed as the 1st VCF (IVCF)Staffworker in my country,Singapore. His crtiques of the New Morality of Joseph Fletcher were excellent and incisive. He was a theologian and apologist. In recent years Vernons short devotionals in the daily readings of Radio Bible class have been pregnant and full with depth and insight

Dr. Grouonds made an impact on our lives living in Denver in eraly 90s when he was interim pastor of Faith Presbyterian in Auroa, CO. He was influential in helping to turn our lives around through the word of Christ. Coming out of our church today in Orange, TX we were reminded of him because the guest pastor today was so much like him in statue and in the way he deliverd the sermon. This is why I went to the internet to see if Dr. Grounds was still on earth. I know Heaven is happy to have him. Such a wonderful man. Steve & Beth (October 17, 2010)
