What Is Gleanings?

At Christianity Today, we’re constantly tracking important developments in the church and the world. Often we use our network of reporters around the world (and for that, visit our main site). But we also monitor other news outlets, bloggers, newsmakers’ social media feeds, and countless other information streams. Gleanings compiles the most urgent and interesting items we’ve found, explains why you need to know about them, and gives you the background you need to understand them. It’s our snapshot of what God is doing in the world, hour by hour.

Happy Reformation Day

Martin Luther goes Lego.

In advance of this weekend's Reformation Sunday--the 493rd anniversary of the day Martin Luther nailed 95 Theses to the door of Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany--CT has run across a bold alternative historical theory on what really went down on that famous October 31st:

Whatever you happen to be celebrating this Sunday, have a safe and happy weekend.

It's amazing to think that Protestantism isn't even 500 years old. Soon after Protestantism celebrates its Quincentenary, Catholicism will celebrate its 2000th anniversary on Pentecost Sunday, 2033 or so.

Same with Mormonism! They celebrate their 2000 anniversary on Pentecost Sunday around 2033, when Jesus Christ started the church in the eastern hemisphere, but did you know that he ALSO started a church in the western hemisphere too!!!?
Come to think of it, The Orthodox church celebrates their 2000 year anniversary on Pentecost Sunday around 2033, the one true church that continued in apostolic faith without the corruption of the bishop of Rome.

I wonder if the Reformation is still in progress?
