Sunday School Grenade Attack In Kenya Kills Child, Injures Three Others
Archbishop of Kenya calls for increased government security to protect Christians.
Just two weeks after Kenyan churches filed suit against their government for failing to protect them from religiously motivated violence by al Shabaab, the rebel group is suspected of attacking a church in Nairobi with grenades.
Reuters reports that a nine-year-old boy was killed when rebels tossed a hand grenade into a Sunday school session in St. Polycarp's church in Nairobi.
On Tuesday, the Archbishop of Kenya condemned the attack, which also wounded three other children, and repeated previous calls for increased government security to protect citizens.
Police suspect that the Islamist group Al Shabaab, linked to al Qaeda, perpetrated the attack.
Meanwhile, bishops of the Anglican church are voicing their concern over this "simmering religious intolerance," denouncing the slow-moving police service reforms and lack of security.
CT previously reported that the National Council of Churches of Kenya filed suit over riots in Mobasa in September.
