Evangelical Support for Fox News Shifts Surprisingly after Election
LifeWay says nearly 1 in 5 now trust Fox News more.
Following the November 6 election, media commentators buzzed about election coverage from Fox News and MSNBC and the networks' respective conservative and liberal biases. But does recognition of such biases drive viewers away?
Probably not, according to a new poll by LifeWay Research. The survey of nearly 2,000 U.S. adults conducted after the election indicates that evangelicals may actually support Fox News more strongly now than they did before the election.
Among U.S. adults overall, 24 percent of respondents indicated that they trust Fox News more now, and 42 percent indicated that their perception of Fox has not changed.
"The results don't support the post-election conversation about Fox News losing its reputation among viewers," wrote LifeWay president Ed Stetzer.
Among evangelicals specifically, 17 percent indicated that they now are "much more trusting" of Fox News's coverage.
Stetzers says this points toward "the deep mistrust that evangelicals, and many other Americans, have toward the mainstream media. I believe that many in the mainstream media have earned their reputation, so I would say to all news viewers: let the viewer beware. No one is without bias, left and right."
A previous LifeWay survey examined how Protestant pastors view Fox News.

People, including evangelicals, are going to listen to whoever panders to their emotional pre-dispositions. When it comes to politics or political leanings like anyone else they are going to go along with who makes them feel comfortable in their "biased skins." This is especially true of Fox ("Faux") news which sued for the right to misinform the public in the lawsuit, New World Communs. of Tampa, Inc. v. Akre, 866 So. 2d 1231(2003).
If we evangelicals want real change, then we need to start our own political party, rather than having us co-opted as a voting block every Congressional and Presidential election cycle by the Republican party. For example, Roe v. Wade was decided in 1973. How many Republican presidents, Congressional and Supreme Court majorities have weilded power and influence since 1973 and yet Roe v. Wade remains law of the land?
All of us who have had basic Civics course, know that the Executive Branch does not legislate nor can it over-rule Supreme Court decisions, that is why I'm constantly amazed at how many evangelicals get upset with a President being Pro-Choice or Pro-Life. The President's view is immaterial to whether or not abortion is outlawed because he cannot, without the participation of one of the other Branches of government, do anything about it either way. The Republicans had past opportunities to do so and did nothing about it either. Abortion has just become a hot button issue to use us every election cycle. Let's wise up and start our own party. A party that makes the Lord's agenda its agenda, instead of having to hold our nose and swallow the biases of those whose values don't square with Scripture but are part of the platform with which we are required to go along in order to place, show or win.

Unfortunately, most Americans are me-focused which extends right down to making sure we only hear and see what we want in our "news."

Yes, I wish what we were taught in civics about the balance of power between the branches of government was effectively how our government operates, so that the President's view would be immaterial without the support of Congress, BUT we already know there have been unconstitutional power grabs through illegitimate use of executive orders to by-pass Congress to achieve personal goals. We also know the Attorney General has been directed by the President (who swore in the Oath of Office to uphold the Constitution) not to enforce DOMA, which is the law of the land, simply because the President's personal opinion is that DOMA is unconstitutional- just to cite a couple of examples. However, I do not believe evangelicals should or need to start our own political party for "real change." That "real change" can only be accomplished individually and collectively through people who have been "really transformed" by the power and work of the Holy Spirit who remain faithful and committed to Biblical truth and values that shape their worldview on all fronts. Even Jesus made no attempt to set up a political agenda or means of effectuating the life-changing and world-changing Gospel, though many wanted Him to do so. Ultimately and thankfully, God is in control. Romans 13:1 "Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God." Daniel 2:21 ESV "He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding;" I don't mean to imply that we are to be inactive politically or to fail to exercise our constitutional rights or spiritual responsibilities to be salt and light in this world. Rather, we need to keep our over-arching allegiance and priorities clear, and our lives (and verbal witness) a worthy and attractive representation of His amazing grace- without which we would all be without hope.

We turned in our satellite dish and now get our news online. I frequently visit the Fox News site, but I miss being able to catch up on Special Report every night on my DVR.
I fear for those Christians who are disparaging Fox News and have bought into the line that Fox News does not deliver real news. As has been said elsewhere here, Fox News is the ONLY news outlet covering the Fast and Furious debacle and trying to hold this administration accountable. Also, Fox News is the ONLY news organization breaking stories on Benghazi-gate where our ambassador and 3 other Americans were killed. None of the other news organizations even care about this story, and most are trying to provide the President and his corrupt administration cover.
Say what you will, but the most unbiased and most accurate, hard-hitting stories and REAL INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISM is only being done by one news organization: Fox News. Period. End of story.

The logic in this article is very strange, and alarming if it represents the thinking of evangelicals today. The survey says 24% trust Fox News more, and 42% have the same opinion. The conclusion for the author is that there is a surprising shift in support for Fox News among evangelicals. Is the writer able to Count? 24% plus 42% equals 66%. So what happens to the other 34%? Here is twisted logic! 24% trust Fox more, and 34% trust Fox less, so when did 24% become more than 34%? This is similar to the logic that one can hear every day on Fox news. Listen to how their commentators had counted that Mr. Romney was winning the election on election night, so what happened to their count? It does not matter to devotees of Fox news that they give information that is misleading, the faithful devotees will continue to follow. It is such a pity that these so-called evangelicals have forgotten the admonitions in the New Testament to use our minds, not forgetting that there is a battle taking place for the minds of people. That is why we are reminded that the weapons of our warfare are not "carnal" but mighty through God to the bringing down of imaginations and every thought that challenges the supremacy of Christ. We must diligently "study", unceasingly and diligently, to guard our minds and thoughts because out of them are the issues of life. Over and over we are warned not to let others deceive us but to search out the truth for ourselves and not be led away by every wind that blows.

When are we going to realize that Fox News IS mainstream media right along with its "competitors." Just because they hold a different view does not mean anything.
No matter where you get your news, do fact-checking on your own and take it all with a huge grain of salt, being sure to "test" it all.

I think the issue goes deeper than described here. For example, MSNBC has had a pretty transparent agenda to demonize Christians in the past several years, especially through airing various conspiracy theories about supposed "dominionist" plots to take over the government, support the imprisonment and killing of homosexuals worldwide, etc. So the cable "news" services self-select their viewers as well. It's not purely viewers going to Fox because it is more "conservative," but that MSNBC, and to a lesser extent CNN, may put forward viewpoints expressly hostile to Christians.

This is amazing. Fox was provably wrong about the election, with some of its commentators even pushing their obvious wrongness deep into election night, and people actually trust them more?
Here's a principle that's helpful to live by. If someone is consistently unreliable on the things that you can prove, they probably shouldn't be trusted on the things that can't be proved.
