New Video Launches 'Largest Ever' Immigration Reform Effort by Evangelicals

(UPDATED) Leaders on both sides of political spectrum call for 'grass-roots push on immigration.'

Update (Jan. 28): A bipartisan group of senators released a proposal for comprehensive immigration reform today, in advance of President Obama releasing his own plan tomorrow.

Leaders of the Evangelical Immigration Table were quick to comment.

“We applaud the Senate’s courage and bipartisan nature in proposing a set of principles [that] include much-needed reforms to our outdated immigration system," said Stephan Bauman, president and CEO of World Relief, in a press release.

"Congress does not often exceed my expectations," said Richard Land, president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention. "But these principles, and this demonstration of bipartisanship by our leaders, certainly have."

Comments from Leith Anderson, Noel Castellanos, Luis Cortez, Robert Gittelson, Samuel Rodriguez, Gabriel Salguero, Mat Staver, and Jim Wallis can be found at the bottom of this post.

President Barack Obama is not the only one preparing for a heavy push on comprehensive immigration reform in the coming months. Today evangelical leaders launched fresh efforts to raise support as well, releasing a new video featuring Max Lucado, Bill Hybels, Richard Land, Leith Anderson, Samuel Rodriguez, and Joel Hunter, among others.

More than 150 evangelical leaders have renewed their calls for comprehensive immigration reform by signing on to the Evangelical Immigration Table (EIT), a relatively new initiative that unites, among others, unlikely partners such as Sojourners and the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention. According to CNN, a new video launched today will serve as the campaign's "first concerted push on immigration, with the goal of getting meaningful immigration reform through Congress in 2013."

And if all goes according to the president's plan, new legislation could come as early as August, reports The New York Times. Obama will urge the newly inaugurated 113th Congress to move quickly on an immigration reform package that likely will include a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, as well as "nationwide verification of legal status for all newly hired workers; add visas to relieve backlogs and allow highly skilled immigrants to stay; and create some form of guest-worker program to bring in low-wage immigrants in the future."

Previous comprehensive immigration reform bills have stalled in Congress, where legislators often have attempted to repair the broken immigration system in a piecemeal fashion. Others have criticized previous reform attempts as "amnesty" for undocumented immigrants who entered or remain in the country illegally.

Conservative Christians and the GOP have previously been among those opposed to comprehensive reform, but CT reported on renewed evangelical interest in immigration reform following the November 2012 elections, as well as what June's Evangelical Statement of Principles for Immigration Reform really means and why Focus on the Family's Jim Daly signed on. CT ran a Village Green presenting three views on what reform should look like, and our September cover story focused on evangelical efforts in Phoenix to "love the sojourner" while waiting for immigration laws to change.

CT has regularly reported on immigration, especially on its politics blog, including rallies in 2009 and 2010 and the new unity across political lines.

Reactions from leaders of the Evangelical Immigration Table to a bipartisan Senate proposal on immigration reform issued Jan. 28:

Leith Anderson, President, National Association of Evangelicals: "Now is the time for immigration reform. We've settled too long for a broken system, and now the nation is ready for changes that are just, reasonable and compassionate. Let's make immigration the issue where our political parties can come together and do what is right."

Stephan Bauman, President and CEO, World Relief:
“We applaud the Senate’s courage and bipartisan nature in proposing a set of principles for immigration reform legislation. The principles include much-needed reforms to our outdated immigration system, and we urge the Senate to pass reforms that include an earned pathway to eventual citizenship, strong support for family unity, and provisions that would facilitate the integration of immigrants into our society in partnership with the faith-based community. We hope this step forward by the Senate today will lead to a robust and open political process for immigration reform, one we can celebrate within the greater evangelical community. We look forward to working with members in both the Senate and House in coming months to address this critical issue.”

Noel Castellanos, CEO, Christian Community Development Association:
"The leaders of the Christian Community Development Association (CCDA), which represents hundreds of local organizations working in immigrant communities throughout the nation, applaud the principles released by Senate leaders working to fix our broken immigration. The faith community is ready to stand by a proposal that respects the dignity of the 11 million men, women and children trapped in our current system, provides a fair integration into our U.S. society, and assures the security and prosperity of our nation. We are ready to work together to get immigration reform passed!"

Reverend Luis Cortés, President, Esperanza:
"We find ourselves in a defining moment, a moment when people of all backgrounds, political persuasions and religious convictions are acknowledging that we must solve this civil and human rights crisis in our country once and for all. We support this bipartisan effort and the immigration reform principles put forth in the senators' proposal, and we thank those who are leading the effort for doing their part. May they experience the full support of a nation and a government ready to fix the broken system we have lived with for far too long."

Robert Gittelson, President, Conservatives for Comprehensive Immigration Reform:
"It is encouraging that the set of principles released by this important and influential group of senators is very much in line with the principles that we have long been advocating for them to advance. Their outline is balanced and just. While we acknowledge that the 'devil is in the details,' we are optimistic that these reasonable principles will serve as a fair and broad outline that should hopefully lead to solutions that will once and for all solve the very intractable problems inherent in our broken and antiquated immigration system."

Dr. Richard Land, President, Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention:
"Congress does not often exceed my expectations. But these principles, and this demonstration of bipartisanship by our leaders, certainly have. The senators have introduced principles for a bill that has a true chance of passing. I think they sense this is a real opportunity. Not only should we be encouraged but we should understand that this is truly what St. Paul would call a 'kairos,' or propitious, moment to be seized. The momentum needs to be used to pass significant and helpful immigration reform."

Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, President, National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference:
"The National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference commends and applauds the principals proposed by United States Senators committed to finding a solution to the immigration crisis. As a member of the Evangelical Immigration Table, the NHCLC stands committed to an outcome that reconciles conviction with compassion, security with integration, all while recognizing the image of God in citizen and immigrant alike. Accordingly, while we continue to engage in prophetic activism, we also continue in our 'I Was a Stranger' prayer challenge. For we understand that prayer and activism result in one thing: justice in the name of Jesus!"

Dr. Carl Ruby, Vice President for Student Life, Cedarville University
"What excites me about this moment is the momentum that I see among evangelical university students. All across the country, young evangelicals are rallying around this issue. They see it as an act of living out their faith and honoring Christ's call to minister to the marginalized. They view it through the lens of civil rights and they don't want to be on the wrong side of history, as many white evangelicals were during the civil right movement. This is their moment to get an issue right, and that energizes their support for comprehensive immigration reform."

Rev. Gabriel Salguero, President, National Latino Evangelical Coalition:
“The National Latino Evangelical Coalition (NaLEC) and its 3,000 congregations are hopeful that the principles for immigration reform laid out in a bipartisan manner provides real hope to the 11 million women, children and men who remain undocumented. This legislation is an honest compromise that can move the nation forward in healthy ways.”

Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman, Liberty Counsel, and Chief Counsel, National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference:
"I applaud the bipartisan group of Senators working together to reform our broken immigration system. We need to secure our borders, enforce our laws, and provide opportunities for undocumented immigrants to come out of the shadows and participate in the American dream."

Rev. Jim Wallis, President and CEO, Sojourners:
“A bipartisan group of Senators has spoken: No legislation can be called immigration reform without a roadmap to citizenship. Creating a just and compassionate immigration system that meets the needs of the 21st century won’t happen overnight and it won’t be easy. For years the faith community has been calling for change, and we will be watching every step of the way to ensure that families are protected and the dignity of every one of God’s children is respected. We expect and demand nothing less. For us, this isn’t just a matter of politics, but one of faith and obedience to Jesus’ call in Matthew 25 for his followers to ‘welcome the stranger.’”

I have a son that was laid off for 2 1/2 years and he has a friend that has been laid off for 3 1/2 years. The illigal immigrants have more priority than these two???

Very well said. I know many many people feel the way you do however all the crooked politicians do not. This is so sad as they are destroying this great country as we just sit back and watch.

Legal aliens is one thing; endorsing illegal behavior is the worst form of parenting this nanny country can get into. We cannot afford this any longer. For the sake of our children and grandchildren, stop being used by the left as soft cushy Christians that can be manipulated to do anything. We are mighty warriors in the army of God!

If you come here legally - no problem. But, to grant amnesty to people who have already broken our laws is a slap in the face to all Americans and our laws.

If the evangelicals want to grant amnesty to illegals, then make the church pay taxes to support them. Get rid of all their exemptions. If church and state are separate treat the church as a taxpayer and let them support the illegals monetarily. Tax the pants off any exempt religious organization that supports illegals and lobbys for them

One thing is forgotten here: these people CHOSE to cross our borders ILLEGALLY !!!!! Why is the first part of their disobedience over-looked??? Should that not be the first step taken.....we are giving ammenesty to person who have no respect for the law. HOW DO YOU DISMISS THIS??? The Bible tells me to OBEY THE LAWS OF THE LAND !! Why is that part overlooked ???? And where do you stop if this is allowed to be overlooked????

In the civic realm, our fellow citizens are the equivalent of relatives within the household. To apply the principle faithfully, we owe them our first responsibility, not the citizens of foreign nations.

I'm pasting this quote because it sums it up nicely, "In the civic realm, our fellow citizens are the equivalent of relatives within the household. To apply the principle faithfully, we owe them our first responsibility, not the citizens of foreign nations..."

Makes sense to me. I DO look out for my household and relatives FIRST. I DO care about my fellow man. However, I am forced to take a stand against the policies being put forth by this Administration that threaten the livelihood and prosperity of myself and my household.

Illegal immigrants are breaking our national laws. Why is this so hard to grasp? It is simple...illegal is illegal!

If the churches want amnesty will they take the responsibility of supporting the 63% of them that collect welfare? The churches don't pay taxes so where does your money go? Big houses? Planes? Expensive cars? We all need to call Congress & the IRS and complain about them being political from the pulpit!

It's disappointing, but not surprising that the Christian Church so-called is moving in this direction. Though they may be sincere, it is an ill directed move and primarily aimed at raising attendance and monetary gain and not the betterment of individuals and families. So it's come to this in the US.

Supporting ILLEGAL activity is NOT anti-Christian.

As a Southern Baptist and practicing Christian, I am adamantly opposed to any type of "amnesty" for illegals without first going through a process to become an American citizen, including a sworn oath to defend the Constitution of the United States. I do believe in immigration reform, which might allow some of these illegals to become U.S. citizens, but I absolutely reject any form of amnesty to reward those who have broken the law (and our Constitution) without being screened for being lawbreakers, sexual deviants, mentally unbalanced, etc. Before we can start advocating for amnesty for illegals, we need to first take care of our own citizens first!!.

Would someone tell me how supporting illegal behavior is anti-Christian?!

It isn't just about illegal aliens, it is also about the safety of this country and its legal citizens. Every time there is a chance for the illegal aliens to gain amnesty, there is an influx of people from our southern border. It isn't just about feeling sorry for those less fortunate, it is about keeping this country safe from outside invasion. There are others coming across the southern border who are from countries who wish us harm. It is just not a good idea. I have to ask the Christians of this country if they wish to be forced to believe in the Muslim way of life and not have the freedoms they have today. It could happen if we open our borders to any and all who wish to come here for a better life. It is rapidly deteriorating economically because of all the illegals here now. The food stamp program is over burdened and our politicians are talking about doing away with social security to help pay the billions of dollars spent every year for illegals. Do you not have any sympathy for seniors in this country? It may seem cruel, but we have to say the "no" word and take care of our own.

You MUST be reasonable and logical !

The AMNESTY is NOT the answer to out illegal immigration.

Please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You want to learn about how illegals are pampered at the expense of citizens? Try working in a southern California HOSPITAL for a few years. Better yet, try getting hired in a business OWNED by illegals, or one where they work.

You do not represent true christians when you support people and movements who violate our laws. God commands people to obey laws which are the schoolmaster to God. When church leaders encourage disobediance such as this, and sanctuary cities allow illegal immigrants to flourish, then we are what the bible says in ecclisiastees, giving evil doers the idea that it is ok to do wrong. You leaders are disgraceful, religious, but not following the teachings of Christ and God's word.

Not only do we tolerate a huge influx of illegals, but the numbers of persons who enter the nation legally is completely out of sync with the needs of this nation. We should be restricting the NUMBERS of persons admitted legally! Currently we admit over a million persons legally. Most wind up on public assistance, and the expenses to current citizens of hosting legal immigrants is insane. Consider the environmental costs, the school costs, the housing/food stamps/adc/medical costs alone. Do we have a million extra jobs that need filling? NO, we do not. The excessive legal immigration serves to keep wages down so that our current citizens remain poor. All of this comes to us due to decisions by our "representatives", who are being supported by large businesses who love having cheap labor at the expense of the general public. Come on, fellow citizens, it is way beyond time to fire our representatives and get legislators who will represent the needs of his/her actual constituents!

Gay marriage and amnesty are the work of the DEVIL. The church is being destroyed from within and so is our country. Follow the words of the bible and NOT the ones that fit the mood of the reader.

I have served my Lord and the citizens of many other countries as a missionary. Children from other countries have been brought into to my home and tutored and educated - many accepting Christ and being baptized. Yet, because I stand up for the laws of my country, I have been labeled as one who "hates" hispanics, gays, etc. Much of the work we have done has been for the benefit of these groups - not their destruction. I am so disappointed in the Christian leaders who are twisting the Scripture to make it sound like we are going to be the "goats" bound for hell because we stand for the keeping of the law of the land - a Biblical principle as well. If you are going to apply Scripture to a social situation, apply it within the total context of Scripture - not just the "mushy" verses you want to use for sympathy and suport for lawbreaking people - be they hispanics or others.

These preachers saying that we will be cast into hell for not welcoming an illegal alien who has broken our laws are completely NUTS.
They have distorted religion so much with their so called churches that Jesus himself would not recognize that any of them were following his teachings. Such hypocrites. You preachers have no business trying to affect this or any issue, you have lost any credibility that the church once had. Your dogma is your downfall.

I'm for helping people, BUT, there comes a time when the people you are helping will simply LET you continue to help THEM. I'm a nice and generous person, but, I'm not some sucker either.

As for the subject of ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, I say, come here LEGALLY, just like all the others who have come here LEGALLY. If you came here ILLEGALLY then get the hell out of my country!!! NO ONE owes you a damn thing!!

If we grant amnesty to all those people who came here ILLEGALLY, then just think of what a slap in the face that is to ALL those who came here LEGALLY!!! I'M COMPLETELY AGAINS IMMIGRATION REFORM!! PERIOD!! NO ONE OWES YOU CLOWNS A FREE RIDE!!

The simple fact is that the influx of 12-20 million illegal aliens as well as the LEGAL immigration rate of over 1 MILLION per year and the visa soup (H-1B, L-1 etc) has resulted in a labor glut.

Economics 101 - businesses have supported unlimited immigration on both the low and high wage earner end and the result has been wage depression.

Never before has there been such as divide between the rich and the poor and it's because of the massive, unsustainable number of people coming into the country.

Our medical system is under assault by illegals which has resulted in the closure of hundreds of hospitals over the past 25 years (since the last general amnesty).

Illegals drop an anchor baby and bingo - they have all they will need to stay in the country and never be deported. This has to change.

Economic studies show that an average illegal alien family will cost the government over 1 million dollars more than taxes received. How is this good for America?

Excuse the words as they are not meant to offend - let's call a spade a spade... Illegal immigration and the insane high legal numbers is destroying the country. The middle class is shrinking and I think that's what both parties really want to happen.

But the current insane push back by the Obama administration to something that over 70% of Americans approve is political suicide.

Want to get out of the current economic recession/depression? Implement e-verify and force employers to validate that their employees are legal. Automatic self-deportation when the jobs dry up. Halt all immigration and cancel the visa soup and we will need to create over 1 million LESS jobs per year to keep up.

Ever want a raise again? I haven't had one in 6 years and I'm making $20,000 a year less than I did in 2000. Help the ones here illegally self-deport - Americans will be able to get jobs again. Stop legal immigration and the various visa that are causing middle class Americans to be thrown out of work we will have more jobs and wages will rise again.

The fact that Obama doesn't understand this economic reality is troubling but since he's never held a real job in his life it is understandable.

If he amnesties the 12-20 million illegals - then just as the amnesty in the 80's that 'estimate' will turn out to be very low and we will end up with another 30M+ new American's who can barely read but boy can they pump out babies! The birthrate of illegals is several times that of Americans and it will result in an unbelievable amount of new poor Americans who have to be cared for in the eyes of the anti-American Democrats and incarcerated in the eyes of the Repuglican's. I hate to say it but I'm afraid this may actually happen.

The dem's will want all the new Americans thinking most will vote for them and the Repugs will think that they can turn them into them because they are staunchly Catholic.

And the Catholic Church's will salivate over themselves to gain new members who actually believe in the dogma that most American's don't anymore. With the massive numbers of people fleeing the Church because of the sexual abuse of minors they need new blood to fill the ranks. And what better people to fill the pews than with people who don't believe in birth control and won't say a peep when their priest takes liberties with their kids.

Fellow American's - sorry to say this but we are all in trouble.

The US has a right to enforce its borders, and US taxpayers have a right to have their tax dollars spent for the benefit of their own citizens. It is not racist to enforce our laws and hold violators accountable. If we really want to have open borders and provide an education for the world's poor, then we had better be willing to pay higher taxes to support this altruistic endeavor.

What will 12-15 million people do to America. First, these are in majority
people with minimum or no education. I watched a tv program on job skills needed for sucess in the labor market. The TV showed what skills were needed to fill warehouse jobs. These jobs are computer skills are needed. This was large warehouse storage- shipping. I did not see a single human in the warehouse. All run by computer. I could not believe it. These type jobs were, in the past filled with people to do all the work! No more, It really opened my eyes. Looks like all the this type labor is going to be limited to harvesting farm products, orchards, fruit picking, etc. I think it is just a question of time in this labor field. It is going to take more education in the future. These people do not have the skills to survive! I think we are making a mistake!

I'm not worried about being judged for my belief that if someone wants to be a US citizen they need to become one according to our laws. I don't think being here illegally entitles anyone, and in fact, they should worry about their judgment day. If they are here illegally, they are stealing by collecting benefits, stealing jobs that don't belong to them, and among them are common thieves, murderers, rapists, sexual predators, etc. Many of those sent here from Cuba years ago were felons released from prison, who castro put on boats and pointed them at Florida. I'm sure a lot of illegals who sneak across the southern border are likely those who are socially unbalanced misfits that are not wanted in their home countries. We don't need any more problems, we have enough problems with our own citizens.

While I'm not against legal immigration, I'm totally opposed to granting amnestity to those here illegally. They are a burden to our social services, our unemployment of legal citizens, and our criminal justice system. They need to be sent back to their home countries and apply for immigration legally. They are stealing work from our unemployed workers. We need to take care of those legal citizens in our country that need help and jobs. Amnesty for illegal, criminal immigrants only encourages more to shirk our laws and steal our tax dollars. We are a country founded by immigrants who believed in God. Those wishing to legally join us need to conform to our culture, our language, our beliefs and our society not try to change our country to conform to theirs. No Amnesty!!!!

This so-called Christian "PUSH" for immigration reforms covenientyl ignores 3 things, our laws and rules provided under the Constitution of the US. we can't be all things to all peoples around the world, and finally you liberal evangelicals should seriously ponder "to render under Caesar, that which is
Caesar's, and unto God, that which is God's!!!"

Where is your phony and so-called sense of charity towards those who have applied for immigration, followed the necessary immigration rules and are still waiting to enter, yet somehow the illegals and "anchor-babiesr" have a greater right?

Your video expresses much the same as the current Administration within our borders, to attempt at :dividing and conquering!!! Be rest assured that many, many Americans feel strongly and in agreement with the late Charleton Heston........."OVER MY (OUR) DEAD BODY(S)!!! (sic)

You are asking people to do the impossible. The US cannot possibly take in all the people in the world who would like to live here. If we have open borders the country will be overwhelmed and chaos will result. Then the world is worse off than before. The true Christian action is to help poor people in their own countries learn how to build a successful economy that can sustain themselves at an acceptable level. It is horribly short-sighted to demand that we literally welcome unlimited numbers of people into this country. I don't understand how you can fail to see this. Your recommendations would lead to the suicide of this nation and a great loss to the civilized world.

We cannot afford to take in all these people. We do not have the food, water and infrastructure to support them. How about our own unemployed, particularly black teens? How about those who came here legally and are now out of work? Why don't you think about the consequences before you start spouting all this "feel good" nonsense?

Amnesty for illegal aliens is a misguided effort. This country has a finite amount of resources. The constant high volume of illegal aliens means that these resources are being divided amon an ever larger number of people.

At some point they will not be adequate for anyone, except perhaps the elite and that at the expense of everyone else.

In addition, a lot of illegal aliens send money to relatives in their country of origin. This aids the economy of that country rather than the economy of the United States.

I strongly encourage you to withdraw your support for amnesty of illegal aliens.

Where is it written that the only way to help those in need, is to bring them here? We can do more good, for more people, where they live, now. Keep bringing them here, unchecked and we will become a 3rd world country, as well.

There have been 7 massive amnesties over past years, each one only resulting in increasing levels of illegal immigration. You are asking people to do the impossible. The U.S. cannot possibly admit all the people in the world who would like to live here. If we had open borders, we would be quickly overwhelmed, and chaos would results. The world would be much worse off than before. The truly Christian way to help people from poor countries it to teach them in their own countries to build a society that will bring acceptable living conditions. Why can’t you understand this? You are doing the whole world a terrible disservice to demand that the U.S. admit unlimited numbers of people. No wonder church attendance is declining when church officials preach such preposterous ideas.

Being Roman Catholic I hear quite often from the pew about the Immigration thing. I see if you are coming from Cuba or China but not Mexico. I feel the church looks at this issue on more of the collection basket then they do about immigration. What about the Person born in this countryy that loses their job this will just add to the influx of those looking for work. I go by a landscaping place no one is speaking english or drive by a house or building being built the samething. I dare not say anything or fear hearing the backlash. In the end The catholic Church does not share the same view on immigration reform as I do.

On 6 Nov 2012, we saw the Great falling Away that is to happen just before Christ's return. The Democratic Party dumped God at their Convention and booed when public opinion forced them to put Him back in. Then 53% of voters voted for the party that dumped God, including 93% of Blacks who profess to have deep Christian leanings, and 71% of Hispanics who also traditionally proclaim deep religious convictions. 93 million eligible voters did not vote, in effect, voting for the party that dumped God. I am a 68 year old life-long Democrat turned Independent by Obama. I voted for him in 2008 and deeply regret my vote. But God is in charge and the Nov 2012 election was a test. We failed it.

America, a Christian nation, has become a secular nation and turned away from God and His laws. He said, If you love Me, obey my laws. If we follow His laws we are blessed; if we do not follow His laws we are punished. Nobody in their right mind could possibly not see God is punishing this nation.

This is an open warning to illegals: Turn back to God so you and your motherland can once again receive God's blessings. And to America, turn back to God and Law before your nation is further destroyed.

"Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever." - 1 Timothy 5:8

We must provide for our neighbors that are here already before we try to provide for strangers.

no amnesty legal and inpeach OBAMA.

Part of my duty / joy / calling as a Christian (regardless of religion - Cahtolic, Protestant, etc.) is to help others.

That being said, I have been for many yrs a computer engineer, at the high end of the spectrum - I have been blessed. After 9/11 at Boeing (WA) I was lucky enough to get an excellent position in PA, the next position in 2003 took longer, the next one even longer to get. Then Bill Gates addressed Congress & stated clearly that there were not enough computer engineers / workers & we (Congress) needed to open up more foreign worker visas.
Strangely enough we pretty much started the computer revolution and had the 'brain trust' here - re" computers. Maybe he didn't get the memo?
From 2005 on, I have had difficulty getting a position that I have been highly trained for, & have worked in the industry for over 25 yrs. That may be part of why I have difficulty getting hired, I have too much seniority and there are FAR too many work visas for foreign nationals as opposed to US nationals.
I have had to turn to tutoring, many folks both young & old. Yes it is immensely rewarding, but I see so many of my fellow computer engineers within industry losing ground to foreign nationals in this country.

We all have the problem of calling the call centers for help, & due to the difference between US English & foreign English, we spend 5 times more time on the phone just to get a simple problem handled.

The students that I tutor now in math, sciences, english, etc., seem to have little interest in the future, little knowledge of what's possible. They seem to have little knowledge of how our gov't works (or
doesn't as the case may be). We are not doing a good job of teaching the next generation.

Our children deserve better than to be drowned by our politicos heedless mounting debt...we have to help the next generation and not just with Ipods & gadgets.

We need to rethink our priorities. This country in many ways has had all of the hallmarks of a country truly BLESSED by God...we have allowed big biz to redirect that energy, we have allowed our politicos to run roughshod over our Constitution in so many ways.
We cannot allow our country to be ruined by our politicos stupidity, because our Constitution, our country has been blessed by God's bounty all this time...lets not throw that away!

Be aware of this...
"Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever." - 1 Timothy 5:8

Where in the Bible does it say that it's Christian to support illegal activity?

Using the banner of the Bible to tell people from the most generous and welcoming nation on earth to open their borders is obscene. Countries are about language, laws, and borders.Above all we are about fairness. As a Latino male, I invite you to come down here to Arizona to find out what long term open borders have done to our once great state. Illegal immigration steals from us all, especially from those of us that legally immigrated.

In short, Obama is not & never has been a "friend" to the US, he has lied repeatedly about so many things & he is attempting to rule by fiat (dictatorship).
Folks, read the "Harbinger" & see the road that has been set before us. And PAY ATTENTION! We need to take care of those that are LEGAL in this country, clean it up ourselves.
There needs to be a moratorium on new submissions for legal immigration.

Reagan said his biggest mistake during his presidency was the amnesty.

1 Timothy 5:8 - ....take care of own household.... We need to take care of our own legal citizens before we try to take care of non-legal people. Do the math: I worked for over 50 years as a legal citizen in this country . I contributed toward my Social Security and Medicare as did my employers. The US Government did not contribute one cent to it yet it is now trying to shove it down our throats that we "feel we should be "Entitled" to our own money. Funny thing is, we are - we paid the money. The people who feel they are ENTITLED are the people we have in Washington. THEY THINK THEY ARE ENTITLED TO SPEND OUR HARD EARNED SOCIAL SECURITY MONEY ON PEOPLE WHO NEVER CONTRIBUTED TO THE SYSTEM! Talk about "entitled," they are the people who feel they are entitled to a private medical insurance that we can't have, free travel junkets under some guise of government fact finding, free postage, kickbacks from PACs, hefty retirements even if only in office four years. Let's call a spade a spade - the people in Washington are only out for themselves and their power struggle is taking away our CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS!

God must be frowning upon us. We have let this country go down. We should follow the law of the land and treat each illegal as God in the bible. A sin is a sin and we get punished for ours but you religion people want to let them get by with even murder. They come to steal kill and take over and you want to let them. Please read your bible if you want to make a bibical right. God made us all equal and law abiding citizens as well.

Children born here of "illegal" had no say in their birth place. Underage children also had no choice. Those illegal immigrant children under eighteen when brought here should be given an opportunity to obtain citizenship by allowing them to remain on a work visa for ten years after they turn eighteen, then apply for citizenship here in the USA. Children born here cannot be an excuse for their parents to remain in the USA. Theses parents should be deported and allowed to put in for immigration through legal channels. They either take the US citizen child or children with them or make arrangements for their adoption or other legal care in the USA. These parents should be allowed to see their children on a visitors visa for no more than 3 months every year on approval by immigration. They must show round trip fare to their native home for approval. Over staying a visa time limit might preclude any chance for the parents to obtain citizenship in the USA. Just a few ideas. As we are a nation of immigrants (Native American Tribes are the exception) we should make every legal attempt keep strict closed borders but open to legal immigration. This is 2000 years ago when people flowed freely over the continents and we definitely need to protect our borders. We already have the most lenient immigration laws on the books of any nation on this planet.

We must not forget that amnesty and expanded legal immigration harms the poor and vulnerable among us, including young Americans under 30, Black and Hispanic minorities, the disabled, veterans, and older Americans who can't afford to retire.

In the civic realm, our fellow citizens are the equivalent of relatives within the household. To apply the principle faithfully, we owe them our first responsibility, not the citizens of foreign nations.

I am against amnesty for ILLEGAL immigrants; however, I welcome LEGAL immigrants & wish them well.
I am 100% against birthright citizenship = it is just manuver to get the rest of the family into our country. Americans cannot go to a foreign country , have a baby & automatically be a citizen of that country.

Legal immigration, like those invited to the wedding in the parables, are welcome to this banquet of the citizenship of the USA. But those not invited were cast out from the house. Are we to recognize the difference between those invited and those that 'force' their way into our homes? As individuals that will be judged on our decisions, how can a policy that confiscates from us (the USA citizen and taxpayor) to redistribute to others be considered an act of charity? Each individual, as I understand, will be judged by what he/she may have done for their fellow human being. We cannot be judged by what others may do or give after confiscating from us and our children.

These evangelical leaders are wrong. The Bible warns about preachers who lead their followers astray. I believe this call for amnesty is a prime example of that. We are historically a country based on law and justice. Illegal aliens either entered this country illegally or they stayed here illegally. Therefore, they have broken the law and should be deported.

"Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever." - 1 Timothy 5:8

After the disheartening intro to this discussion via the "I Was A Stranger Challenge", I now find encouragement in the overwhelming response SUPPORTING RATIONAL (and btw NOT anti-christian) POSITIONS ON BOTH ILLEGAL !!AND!! LEGAL IMMIGRATION. Since when did "The Least of These" ever rattle tin cups on their prison bars, pound drums, or create any other sort of din, DEMANDING that 'we' MUST do/give/provide/or tolerate from THEM after ANY fashion. This specious argument STRAYS FAR FROM ANY CHRIST-LIKE MANNER OR BEHAVIOUR in picturing these "Least". BOTH SIDES must needs consider what Christ would do. And the only time I can recall in the Gospels that Jesus was either angry or demanding was in the upsetting of the money-changers' tables. Preachers need to live it, and livers need to preach it. I see decent example of that here. Amen.

Bestowing amnesty on the millions of illegal aliens in our country would damage us, probably beyond repair.
There would be negative effects financially, socially, medically, educationally, and politically.

Any group who supports amnesty for criminal illegal aliens shows their anti-American leanings.

Sorry if you give in and make these illegals citizens today, the next wave of illegals will be here tomorrow, the same that happened the last time we did this because it was supposed to fix the problem, but all it did was give us three times the amount of illegals we had, waiting for their Chance to beat the system

Ever church or religion will tell you that a person must obey church law and also must obey civil law! It is against the law for a person to enter the U.S. without proper documentation. It is against federal law for an employee/employer to falsify an I-9 to work here It is against most state laws for an illegal immigrant to operate a vehicle. According to the "Federal Immigration and Nationality Act" A person (including a group of persons, business, organization, or local government) commits a federal felony when she or he: assists an alien s/he should reasonably know is illegally in the U.S. WHAT DOES THIS TELL YOU ABOUT YOUR CHURCH OR RELIGIOUS LEADERS!!!!!

Why don't these evangelists talk about OUR unemployed and less fortunate Legal immigrants and how they plan on helping them? Where is THEIR COMPASSION FOR OUR OWN CITIZENS? God will NOT look down on those of us that are more concerned with the wellbeing of our own citizens. Its one thing to want to show compassion for those that are less fortunate, but what I don't understand is why these same evangelists are not asking these same foreign governmt officials WHY AREN'T THEY DOING SOMETHING TO HELP THEIR OWN PEOPLE? Why has this become OUR problem?! If these evangelisgts want to help ALL illegal aliens and they have the funds to do it, then by all means TAKE CARE OF THEM AT 'YOUR' EXPENSE. If I wish to contribute any form of support then let it be MY choice. I can and will go to sleep knowing that I am a good Christian and that God understands where I stand. EVANGELISTS: YOU CAN NOT MAKE ME FEEL GUILTY FOR WANTING TO SECURE OUR BORDERS. You have a right to your opinion just as I have a right to mine. Its too bad that these evangelists have not read the 'strong immigration law' that exists in Mexico. Jail time and fines for anyone entering Mexico illegally and the federal police is required to round up all illegals and throw them in jail, immediately. Their law also states that they will not accept any illegals that are NOT capable of providing financial proof that they can live in their country without any aid.

Generosity for those in need should not be at the expense of others.

I suppose its the "CHRISTIAN IDEA", according to this ad, to reward "ILLEGAL BEHAVIOR"? Its supposed to be the right thing to do? Take the passive approach, because saying NO or playing by the rules is just not fair? WWJD? Hmmmmmm, WWJD? Ill tell you taking the best, strongest, the brightest that these countries have to offer - the healthiest - certainly, that is the case here. Is it not? So America cant provide jobs to Millions, but we insist on putting the rest of the worlds poor at an even worse disadvantage by robbing it of the best, brightest, healthiest, most able bodied???? We cannot save the world, that is reality. Jesus Loves Us ALL and that is a fact.

The Christian thing to do is to deport them, and/or encourage them and assist them to self deport. The example to follow is when Christ forcibly repelled and kicked out the money lenders from the Temple. They did not belong there and Christ whipped them out and these Foreign Invaders do not belong here either and need to be expelled.

Instead of Christian Churches serving its own interests and trying to recruit members, it should do the right thing for the legal American citizens of the parish and STOP supporting these criminals. Even at the expense of losing membership. It is more important to do the right thing and get rid of these people than to sin in order to benefit oneselves and the organization.

If the Christian Churches want to help these people, then they need to do so by helping them re-locate and help them IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY to improve their lives. Send more priests to these countries and money to help them, don’t encourage them to break laws and steal and forge documents and commit felonies as they are now. You are enabling them and encouraging them to break laws of the 10 commandments, against theft and coveting what is your neighbor’s. Shame on all of you.

I want these people to have a better life too, but they need to do it by staying in their own country and not overpopulating and ruining our lives here in the United States. They need to practice birth and population control, and they need to be taught how to implement and practice more Democratic institutions of government and free market systems and institutions of economics to improve their lives where they are at. Don’t come here and lie and cheat and steal and forge documents and illegally take what we and our parents, previous generations and our forefathers have worked so hard to attain for us.

It is all well and good that people of faith are speaking up, HOWEVER; if they ring the gong, instead of the bell of truth; then they are just as destructive as evil people!!! They are the reason others do not listen to Christians because of the harm such people do....look what happened to the votes last year; WE NOW HAVE A COMMUNISM MUSLIM WHERE A PRESIDENT SHOUL DBE AND WILL TRASH OUR NATION MORE THAN HE DID INTHE FIRST FOUT YEARS...HE IS OF SATAN! It is wrong to use religion to push an agenda or a people. I feel for all people s of the earth and the situations they find themselves in..that said; America, especially now, has GOT to trust our heritage and foundation faith to make our own nation better rousting out the evil that has taken over. THERE IS NO REASON FOR PEOPLE TO BE ALLOWED FOR THEY ARE BREAKING THE LAW...GOD DOES NOT ACCEPT THAT I AM SURE!!! Individually, I am civil to those I meet, but tell them if they are illegal- they need to leave, apply and wait for citizenship; otherwsie they have no call to demand a thing of us. This nation has helped everyone for such a long time; we send aide to 2/3rds of the world's countries, yet they hate us and we are broke.....so...WE MUST TAKE INTO ACCOUNT OUR OWN NEEDS NOW AND NOT LET OTHERS WHO WILL BUDREN THE SYSTEM MORE TO COME HERE- ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY COULD CARE LESS ABOUT AMERICA. THEY JUST WANT THE HAND OUTS AND THAT MAKES THEM THIEVES!!! What is right is right and what is wrong is wrong! The peole who are acting like Christians but speaking like scibs and pharasies are 'blind guides' who are not speaking the truth of the Lord; an abomination to Him!
The time is vital that we get our nation in order and get back to the founding truths of all of us or we are toast. The greatest nation that honored God once, will sink lower than those that never accepted Him in the first place...for it is worse to know the truth and ruin it or harm it, than if you never heard it!!!! God forgive us and strengthen us for the battle ahead and to speak the truth and not twist His words to suit ourselves.....

Rewarding illegal and unjust legal immigration is similar to rewarding Satan for the downfall of man! Satan, unjust legal immigrants and illegal immigrants denigrate virtue and tradtional concepts of of the dignity of man based upon the concepts of the dignity of mankind concommitant with the duty of men to follow the path of virtue.
Matthew: 23: 1-7, 13-33- 1 Then Jesus told the crowds and his disciples: 2 "The scribes and the Pharisees have succeeded Moses as teachers; 3 therefore, do everything and observe everything they tell you. But do not follow their example. 4 Their words are bold but their deeds are few. They bind up heavy loads, hard to carry, to lay on other men’s shoulders, while they themselves will not lift a finger to budge them. 5 All their works are performed to be seen. They widen their phylacteries and wear huge tassels. 6 They are fond of places of honor at banquets and the front seats in synagogues, 7 of marks of respect in public and of being called ‘Rabbi.’ 13 "Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, you frauds! You shut the doors of the kingdom of God in men’s faces, neither entering yourselves nor admitting those who are trying to enter. 14 Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, you frauds. You devour the houses of widows, praying long prayers. For this you shall receive a greater judgment. 15 Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, you frauds! You travel over sea and land to make a single convert, but once he is converted you make a devil of him twice as wicked as yourselves. 16 It is an evil day for you, blind guides! You declare, ‘If a man swears by the temple it means nothing, but if he swears by the gold of the temple he is obligated. 17 Blind fools! Which is more important, the gold or the temple which makes it sacred? 18 Again you declare, ‘If a man swears by the gift on the altar he is obligated.’ 19 How blind you are! Which is more important, the offering or the altar which makes the offering sacred? 20 The man who swears by the altar is swearing by it and everything on it. 21 The man who swears by the temple is swearing by it and by him who dwells there. 22 The man who swears by heaven is swearing by God’s throne and by him who is seated on that throne. 23 Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, you frauds! You pay tithes on mint and herbs and seeds while neglecting the weightier matters of the law, justice and mercy and good faith. It is these you should have practiced, without neglecting the others. 24 Blind guides! You strain out the gnat and swallow the camel! 25 Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, you frauds! You cleanse the outside of cup and dish, and leave the inside filled with loot and lust! 26 Blind Pharisee! First cleanse the inside of the cup so that its outside may be clean. 27 Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, you frauds! You are like white-washed tombs, beautiful to look at on the outside but inside full of filth and dead men’s bones. 28 Thus you present to view a holy exterior while hypocrisy and evil fill you within. 29 Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, you frauds! You erect tombs for the prophets and decorate the monuments of the saints. 30 You say, ‘Had we lived in our forefathers’ time we would not have joined them in shedding the prophets’ blood.’ 31 Thus you show that you are the sons of the prophets’ murderers. 32 Now it is your turn: fill up the vessel measured out by your forefathers. 33 Vipers’ nest! Brood of serpents! How can you escape condemnation to Gehenna?"

Your callous disregard for the impact of illegal immigration on the most vulnerable legal members of our society is deplorable. You people may think you're "doing God's work on Earth," but since when did such work include helping to destroy a nation that allows all of you to live as well as you do and, most importantly, to worship as freely as you do?

it irritates me to no end that people will take scriptures and twist it to get their way!I cannot provide any kind of assistance for my neighbor if I am NOT in a position to do so.I believe God does expect us to provide for the poor but he does not say damage your family in the process and he does not say let the government do it for you. Until we can take care of our own citizens we cannot take care of anyone else.I believe it is an effort to get more votes. we have too many people living off the government now because they cannot find work. You I want to give all illegal aliens living in this country amnesty? Fine, but they are not eligible for any government handouts and they must assimilate. They won't come folks.

It's the usual empty rhetoric used by the open border lobby to distract people from the damage being inflicted upon our country from the plague of illegal immigration. This "I was a stranger" piece of propaganda reiterates the same tired call for more immigration. Its advocacy for amnesty for illegal immigrants means more chain migration, and opens the door to more unskilled immigrants while hurting American workers and taxpayers.

Jesus never instructed us, His followers to aid lawbreakers in their law breaking. There are more legal immigrants in this country than we can help as we would like. Trying to extend and warp Jesus words to liberal political ends will no doubt put more "Christians" on the left side of Jesus in the coming judgement, than will simply following His word with no political editorializing.

As compiled at the Cartago Catholic Council (397 DC) scripture as taken in this article literally also includes John 10:16,Jonh 18:36 and Acts 17:31 to name a few that daily are violated by the 40,000 + "christian" groups. Do not twist the scripture on convenience. Please. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus has never instructed us to aid law breakers in their lawbreaking. There are far more legal immigrants in need, than we can aid as we would like at present. I suspect that many who warp Jesus clear teachings to fit their politically correct agenda will be stunned when they end up on Jesus left in the coming judgement.gsl

I suspect that at least in some of these Christian leaders cases, Christianity Today failed to tell them how their seemingly innocent reciting of scripture would be used. It's very suspicious to me that the Christian leaders simply recited scripture, while it was CT who did the voice over that politicized the video and warped the meaning of the scripture involved. Perhaps some at CT will be shocked to find out that they are on Jesus left at the judgement cited.

Open border groups, the media and now evangelical groups are pushing for another ‘amnesty’ for illegal entrants in the country.
What should be done with the estimated 12 to 20 million illegal’s? Congress must first gain the trust of the American public by passing true immigration reform, That means stopping all illegal entry into the country, having a secure VISA entry/exit tracking program, passing mandatory E-verify and having a ‘time out’ on the million plus legal immigrants admitted annually until our 22million unemployed/underemployed have jobs.
Only after the former is in place should a program to offer five year work VISA’s (not citizenship) to people here illegally then be offered. It should be conditional on: the person having been gainfully employed, does not have a felony conviction and is not using any public benefits. People should be here to contribute not consume tax money. Only immediate family members included, meaning spouse and children not brothers, cousins and grandparents. The illegal foreign nationals that don’t qualify will be forced to self deport as they will not be able to find employment or collect welfare.
Immigration policy should be used to create parity between the available jobs and the workers needed to fill them. Labor excesses drive down wages and low wage families seek public assistance to survive. This, in effect, creates a taxpayer subsidy for the low wage sweatshop businesses.
The issue is numbers, not nationality.

I find it outrageous that one who opposes illegal immigration is deemed to be a racist or is called anti-immigrant. Any type of amnesty, path-to-citizenship or whatever you want to call it is a slap in the face to millions of Americans who immigrated legally. I do not find opposition to illegal immigration to be antithetical to Christ's teachings. Christ Himself and the Apostle Paul encouraged believers to obey civil law.

No country moves forward when its capable citizens flee its borders due to economic incentives. All the time spent by Christians to reform US immigration policies should be time spent abroad helping reform other governments and economies. I see so much pride among immigrants for their homelands but little to no dedication to fixing the problems they leave outside US borders. As for those who wish to help "strangers", there are plenty of those in need with American citizenship that feel they are being overlooked as you rush to embrace the new kid on the block. Reconsider these poverty stricken US citizens as your brothers. "Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever." - 1 Timothy 5:8

As a retired Federal law enforcement officer with a bachelors degree in biology, a Vietnam vet, and a person who reads as much science as I can find, I would like to comment on the Christian's push for amnesty. I see many comments here about the effects of increased immigration, but what I usually DO NOT see is:
-Immigration's effect on the U.S. environment. We all have to live on this rapidly size deflating planet, and I mean the amount of wild lands left in our country and the rest of the world. What type of America do you want your children to see? Lack of wildlands, and a severely eroded ecological wasteland? Since my retirement in 2005, I have spent more than 4 years traveling in 21 third world countries in Asia and Central/South America. Have YOU seen the degraded landscape in China or Tibet or Nepal or India or Thailand or Vietnam or Mexico or Guatamala or Peru or Bolivia or ...........? Is THAT what you want our earth to look like times 10? It brings tears to my eyes to see these and other places such as the Amazon jungle torn down for oil/gold/people's housing/roads etc. Imagine th U.S. with 50% more people than now. Do you really want that??
-Do you HONESTLY want to help the poorest of the poor, or simply people who are not as rich as most of us in the U.S.? Central/South America, where most of our immigrants come from is NOT poor compared to other countries. Bring in people who WILL DIE without help, such as from Bangladesh or Nigeria. THE BEST way to assist the most poor people is (BY FAR) to send assistance to where they live. Help them drill wells and teach effective farming and sanitation. Or do you simply want to make a very few Central/South Americans rich compared to their neighbors? Bringing people here is an extremely inefficient way to help the most people per dollar spent. Or do you simply not care about the others who will DIE becaue you want a few New World immigrants to be able to buy a brand new Ford pickup? You choose, which do want, help many millions OR for the same amount of money help a tiny number to become wealthy?
Mark (I CARE!)

I am an evangelical Christian and I am sad that so many of my colleagues have been fooled by the folks at Christianity Today about the Immigration Issue. Do we have a greater responsibility to provide jobs and citizenship to those who break the law and come to America illegally? Or do we have a greater responsibility to provide jobs and citizenship to our own family of American citizens who are here legally trying to earn a living in a legal way. My wife came from Asia and I paid ALL the fees for her green card, green card extension and we waited in line and filled out the forms. Why can't others obey the law if they want to come to America? Why must we reward those who break the law and punish those who follow the law?

Amnesty and expanded legal immigration harms the poor and vulnerable among us, including young Americans under 30, Black and Hispanic minorities, the disabled, veterans, and older Americans who can't afford to retire.

My husband and I agree with all who have indicated they strongly oppose amnesty. Those here illegally don't just want to live here, they are committed to taking over this country, and they will succeed in less than 5 years if our borders are not sealed and if Amnesty is not
defeated. We also agree with those who called for Impeachment of our Communist Muslim President. Did you "religious leaders" not see his Pastor, Jeremiah Wright, and how he implored the Lord, God Almighty to "Damn America?" Do you think BO could sit under his preaching for 20 years and not be in agreement with what he was teaching? Why are you so eager to embrace the method (Amnesty) he has chosen to use to carry out the destruction of America called for by his "Pastor?"
Wake up before it's too late!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a slap in the face to all the people who went through much trouble and expense to get here legally. And the people currently in the process...what should they do? Just sneak across and hope they get amnesty too?

Giving the limited few new jobs to foreigners and depriving Americans employment is not compassion, it's betrayal. Americans are being hidden from view by totality false unemployment figures creating a false assumption that all Americans who want jobs can find them, absolutely playing into the hands of corporations who lie to get an oversupply of labour. the purpose of which is not compassion, it's greed. Our standard of living has and will continue to fall relative to the rest of the world . The elite are indeed clever and will stop at nothing to increase t heir already obscene wealth. An over supply of labour is the shortest and most direct pathway to this end.

Let us allow the Lord to use us to help the illegal immigrant the way he leads us- through missions or legal means. The government should not take the place of God. The laws of our government are in place to protect it's citizens. Sojourners were "temporary" residents. This country was originally formed on Godly principals and laws. Why would Max Lucado and Christianity Today and Evangelicals be pushing for lawlessness? Quit ! We could better help these people in their own country--which they love MOST! Our most unemployed citizens in America are the returning veterans. For Christ's sake! what are we doing to them?

We must not forget that amnesty and expanded legal immigration harms the poor and vulnerable among us, including young Americans under 30, Black and Hispanic minorities, the disabled, veterans, and older Americans who can't afford to retire.

The majority of commenters here express my feelings exactly. Our country was betrayed with the 1965 Immigration Act, principally sponsored by Teddy Kennedy. Since that time, it has been come one, come all, legally or illegally. And please, let's not keep repeating that hackneyed phrase that "we are a nation of immigrants". We had been a people of native born until all the stops were pulled.

With an unemployment rate of 7.8% and a combined unemployment/underemployment rate of 14.4%, the US does not need to give amnesty to illegal aliens nor does it need to import immigrant guest-workers.

As a Jewish American, I believe that these "Evangelical Christian leaders" are nothing more than a bunch of misguided jacklegs and that they need to show more "Christian Spirit" towards their fellow citizens.

We cannot support an endless stream of illegal immigrants. We have millions of Americans unemployed. We need to take care of our own, not be a half way house for the world.

DEPORT!!!! NO MORE free lunches, healthcare, education, etc for ILLEGAL ALIENS…..PERIOD!!!! Stop this insanity! Build a freakin’ wall and deport! We cannot afford to GIVE AWAY the farm to our own US Citizens, let alone ILLEGAL ALIENS! Get serious!

Amnesty is nothing but a reward for breaking our American law. We have these laws in place for a reason. You can't have whole sale influx from other nations, this allows criminals, and other undesirables to enter and become a burden to the honest taxpayer. Lets see mexico let people just walk across the border and ask for assistance. Won't happen. You will be jailed before you can blink an eye. Wake up people. whether speeding in a vehicle, robbing a bank, or just walking across the border and staying, you are breaking the law. When illegals are costing the American taxpayer 500 billion dollars plus a year, it is way past time to put a stop to it and send them home.

We don't need more illegals working in the United States. They need to learn ENGLISH or go back home we do not need to do what the illegals want. They are here and they need to follow our laws.

"Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever." - 1 Timothy 5:8

Have the churches all lost site of the Rule of Law. We allow over 1.3 million legal immigrants a year to come to America and stay. Allowing another 20 - 30 million illegal aliens is not in the books and I don't think that God would object to enforcing our immigration laws. Seems the churches are losing members and need to support amnesty for illegal aliens to impove on their membership.

Comprehensive Immigration Reform is paved with a two Trillion dollar deficit, according to The Heritage Foundation.

More than a quarter of the $1 trillion spent on welfare in the United States goes directly to the households of immigrants, illegal parents and their children. And two out of three jobs created in the last four years went to legal immigrants and illegal aliens. These jobs would lift Americans out of hardship, and reduce entitlement spending still more. Instead, just last month, the unemployment rate among black Americans rose to 14 percent.

The problem isn't only an illegal alien issue; most legal immigrants use at least one welfare program. The problem is simply too much immigration. In fact, we are told many illegal migrants and immigrants have gone home since the start of the recession, but yet the number of legal immigrants in America continues to explode at over a million annually.

Some immigration makes good judgment, included the abbreviated STEM variety of scientific professionals, technical workers, engineers and mathematicians’ But such gigantic levels of legal and illegal immigration are keeping Americans trapped in poverty, but with the expansion of children slipping into America in deliberately gain citizenship by their parents bringing them here. This explosion of people is causing almost irreversible issues with the U.S. federal deficit, not to mention the busting with all 50 state budgets! Insist Senators and House Republicans get the message that we cannot afford to subsidize the financial problems of the world’s population anymore. Tell them to stop importing poverty. Tell them to halt it at the border and at the airline terminals. Do what other countries do and actually track foreign nationals, who overstay their visitor visas and cannot be that complicated.

America spends more than a trillion dollars on programs to help our own unemployed and disadvantaged. So why are we importing millions of immigrants to compete for jobs and resources with them? Why is it not a Felony to enter this sovereign nation without a proper visa?

Congress should help the jobless and destitute Americans in getting decent-paying employment and not importing millions of new workers to take entry-level jobs. In February 24, 1995 the U.S. Commission on Immigration Reform, chaired by civil rights activist Barbara Jordan, called for cutting annual legal immigration in half. This would still be double the historical average, and allow for plenty of reasonable immigration and not a over populated country of desperate, poor people. The primary reason for the cutting immigration that the commission cited was that every time immigration levels have been high -- and they are higher in the past decade than every -- wages fell and poverty rose. With so many millions of unemployed Americans and the nation in such dire fiscal crises, the commission's findings are even more important now than ever.

As Congress considers many "immigration reform" proposals, keep in mind that the reforms we need are those that result in more job openings, less poverty, and lower spending. The American citizenry must demand “THE LEGAL WORKFORCE ACT” to remove illegal aliens from the workplace using mandated E-Verify. Also needed is the “BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP BILL”, to end given immediate citizenship to smuggled children into the United States as it is the most expensive negative payout. This amendment in the 14TH Amendment was a legal advantage to freed slaves and their future offspring, not for every smuggled child into this country.

Your so called call for "compassion" for illegal lawbreaking invaders is completely misguided and immoral. Where is your compassion for FIRST the members of your own household(Legal Americans)who are unemployed to the tune of over 22 Million people including myself? Where is your obedience and respect for the Biblical injunction to obey the laws of the land(way too liberal immigration laws)?
If you use the lame argument of "keeping families together" that's easily done by staying in their own countries and getting out of ours!
We have an ILLEGAL INVASION of over 12 MILLION foreigners!
We have over 22 MILLION un or under employed LEGAL Americans!
Americans are paying over $340 BILLION for freebies and lost work as well as lowered wage scales all because of illegals and other foreigners.
How about the imported crime, drugs and drug operations in National Forests, costs to the prison systems and law enforcement?
Then there's the loss of about 1 Million acres of greenspace YEARLY all due to immigration of both kinds?

HOW can you know these things and support ANY form of amnesty with a good conscience? Or do you just choose to ignore the facts because they're too inconvenient to your ignorant point of view?

We must not forget that amnesty and expanded legal immigration harms the poor and vulnerable among us, including young Americans under 30, Black and Hispanic minorities, the disabled, veterans, and older Americans who can't afford to retire.

In Texas alone the annual cost if illegal aliens is $8.8 BILLION dollars! Looks like we "suffered" them enough. How can we go on funding this kind of "charity" and not go broke?? We have to support our own citizens first before we can extend any kind of charity to foreigners. Our American citizens deserve employment over any foreigners, legal or illegal. REALLY!

Jesus said :"Give to Caesar, what is Caesars". and went further to demonstrate by asking whose image was on the Roman coin.It was Caesars.

In other words, Jesus told his followers, just because they put God first didn't excuse their responsibility to pay taxes and give to the earthly govt their due.

I'm beyond fed up with the hypocracy of this amnesty propaganda.Where is the repudiation for Mexico?A wealthy nation with vast oil reserves, gold & silver mines and resorts affordable only to the global, super wealthy like Brangelina.

I am for immigration - that is, legal immigration. But we must give priority to the 20+ million of our own hurting unemployed. Illegal immigration - no, at any time.nPartsR Scrubbing

Granting amnesty to illegals is rewarding lawbreakers. We have laws for a reason and those who come to our country should do so legally.

The American Economy has slowed to one percent growth. There is extensive unemployment. Our national government is in debt over its head. Many state governments are in debt over there heads. Our roads need extensive repair. Our government complains about paying for Social Security and Medicare. Our national government is winding down two war's which created a debt of four trillian dollars. Do we have the resources to accept 15 million illegals who have come to the United States and did not follows our laws? Do we have the space or the jobs for them? They are putting a strain on our schools, hospitals, and government programs. It is time the American people spoke up and put a end to this insanity. Let me ask one question. If you as an American went to one of these countries from which the illegals are coming from, would you be abe to stay in this country and get a job? I doubt it. It is time that we do on to others as they do on to us.

This group of evangelicals can be likened to the Progressive wing of the Democratic party and their God-like leader Barry. I came to this conclusion based on both groups use of scare tactic to get anyone disagreeing with them to get into their way of thinking. Progressevis are political and such tactics are to be expected, albeit viewed with a large grain of salt.

Evangelicals on the other hand are basically being hypocritical, pompous and sanctimonious all at the same time. Aren't they always answering the question, "why does God let bad things happen", with the statement telling you, "When God made man he him a mind of his own."? Why then do they wish to condemn to hell those who chose to follow their mind instead of just following meekly like a lamb of the flock?

No amnesty! If they (all illegal immigrants and their children) want to come to America, fine. Do it legally! The people of United States need to fix our own problems and take care of our own before giving into illegals. What about our military veterans? What about our homeless and hungry? NO amnesty!

Gospel of John 10:1
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.
Joh 10:2
But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
These words spoken by Christ sets forth The Principle of entering in through The Door (The Portal). into the sheepfold. Those that entereth in by any other way, the same is a thief and a robber.
It would seem many religious well meaning people are supporting and listening to those that have not entered into our country by The Door or Legal Portal therefore risk the danger of being led astray by what Christ called a thief and a robber which had gained entrance into the sheepfold by not going through The Legal Door or Portal. Joh 10:3 To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
Joh 10:4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. Joh 10:5 And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. Something to think about.

as a frontline christian who is in the trenches everyday trying to survive,im appalled at the out of touch, spoiled, lazy so called spiritual leaders calling for amnesty!if you want to make the world better for the untold millions who suffer, get off you pompous, comfortable asses and go to other countries and help them there!you dont help anyone, but soothe your guilty conscience,by bringing more people here to overpopulate my childrens country, thats alresdy stretched to its limit-socially,spiritually,and economically!not everyone can be an american-we are already becoming a modern day tower of babel thanks to the democrats!!the time is now-no more immigrants!!

We need to send all who have come here illegally back to there country of origin and help them there. The millions who have come need assistance for sure but not here. They can apply from there country of origin

Please! Granting amnesty to those who break the law has nothing to do with my Christian faith.
We do not have a problem with immigration policy, my British wife entered the country "legally", we had to prove we had assets, she underwent vigorous health checks and we had to provide police reports from the UK. That is logical immigration policy that protects Americans (and American jobs).
Rewarding laybreakers has nothing to do with faith.

This is just another way to get ILLEGAL IMIGRANTS to hurt OUR country that myself and my ancestors have built into a great .Working hard to make a living with out being GIVEN EVERYTHING FOR FREE
just because they are here. This is just trying to tug at the heartstring of God fearing LEGAL citizens. If these ILLEGALS cared about this country, the money they make would stay in this country instead of sending most of it OUT of the country and supporting other countries. I'm sempathetic towards (LEGAL) IMIGRANTS that come here and go thru the process of becoming a LEGAL AMERICAN. It cost less to become a LEGAL citizen than to pay someone to get them here. This is just pure lazyness in trying to do thing right. When you will not start doing the right thing to begin with have the ( GOVERNMENT/LEGAL CITIZENS) pay to support the ILLEGALS. This is just WRONG at anyway you look at it.

We have increasingly huge problems with unending mass immigration, and misguided or downright phony compassion isn't going to help.

It's obvious most Americans are FED UP with this treason, and we increasingly understand who's behind the curtain pulling the strings.

Mistreating people, is, of course, not something which we, as Christians should do. This does not, however, mean that we should ignore or even reward those who break the law. People sneak into this country to take advantage of our jobs and taxpayer supported benefits. They (mostly) don't care about this country; they just want to get goodies which other people have paid for.

People who break immigration laws have proven that they are willing to break laws; won't they be more likely to break other laws? Do we really want to encourage people like this? Do you feel bad about the poor conditions they came from? Good. But keep in mind that coddling these illegal foreigners does absolutely nothing to improve conditions where they came from.

I'm not suggesting massive searches and mass deportations. I'm certainly not suggesting mistreatment. What we need to do is to remove all the incentives to sneak into this country illegally, to discourage future offenders, and pressure current illegal immigrants to self deport. And redo our immigration laws to support legal immigration of people who want to be Americans, and who will be of benefit to the country.

I don't see anywhere in scripture that suggest that rewarding lawbreakers is something we ought to do.

NO AMNESTY!!!! African Americans have a 20% unemployment rate! Blacks used to work in meat packing, construction, restaurants, hotels, landscaping, custodial work, etc., areas now totally dominated by illegals. Overall, 22 MILLION real Americans are out of work. What would Jesus do? Jesus would escort the freeloaders back to the border and tell them to sin no more.

I just read through the entire thread, and nearly every single post is AGAINST amnesty, which doesn't surprise me at all. Why would anyone with half a brain want to give the lawbreakers amnesty? The evangelical "leaders" should take heed, as well as the GOP. If an amnesty passes, I will no longer go to church, nor will I ever again vote for any Republican. The illegals bring crime and drugs and gangs and misery, and they take work away from the most vulnerable segment of the American people. There is no way to justify an amnesty. the evangelical leaders just want to put more butts in the seats in hopes of generating more revenue. It's about the MONEY.

Robin, just to make sure...you DO know that it's the democrats who are far more gung-ho on amnesty more than the republicans, right? Just to name a few, Ron and Rand Paul, and John Fleming are republicans who are very much against amnesty. And as for democrats, don't know of any against amnesty. Unfortunately, everyone voted in Obama and the democrats in again, knowing full-well that amnesty and gun control would be high on their agenda, even before the shootings. If people didn't know that, they need to stop watching their news channels and find a more reliable source that isn't constantly fawning over Obama et al. Some republicans are becoming more hesitant because of the sheer number of Hispanics and all the illegal voting going on by them and others as well.

So, you're saying that we should have open borders? Who will support the billions that want to come her. Where will they find a job? Where will they live? Are you going to take a thousand illegals into your home. Do you not feel for the millions of your congregation that are suffering? I guess not! It is a sad time in America. Veterans are returning with no job and no hope. Where are you there. They are killing themselves and need help but you have forgotten them. Families are living in their cars and you worry about foreigners who have no regard for our laws. If you care about lawbreakers go to the jails and reform citizens who have made mistakes and not encourage more to cross our borders and burden our dying middle class. For shame! To help illegals and throw your own to the wolfs isn't very Christian!

If these ministers want to get into politics maybe they should lose the religious tax waver. Clergy, should preach peace and help their congregation who are suffering and not encourage more people to break our laws by lying, cheating, stealing American identities, which is still against the LAW! What about aiding and abetting a criminal? Do not our laws affect illegals or clergy? Are they above the laws of our land? They both seem to think so!

Being a Southern Baptist Chaplain, I have to wonder which Bible they are reading from. The 10 Comandments says it all, Ilegal is wrong and a Sin. I do not consider theis Ministers. The are passing false information from the Holy Bible. They should be not be Minister unless the give the correct information from the Bible. One day they will have to answer for their wrong statements.

I have given up trying to talk to - so called Religious leaders - that do not see that satan will use them as well as the President to judge us all.
Read Joel 7 and you will see that it speaks of the coming disaster's facing America, England and Israel.
We had a chance to return "to our first Love" - but we won't and so we will be judged.
You have a problem with what I have said -
then take it up with GOD.

Slavery in America thrived and prospered for 400 years because it was LEGAL to own a black man (and woman) as a farm cattle. It was dangerously ILLEGAL to help a slave escape slavery. Law of the land in America at the time was that a black man was not to be considered even a proper human.

Vast majority of the Americans supported the slavery LAWS and as good CHRISTIANS for 400 years these followers of Christ did not dare to condone the ILLEGAL act of helping the slaves become free. Slaves were the "outsiders" and slave-owners were our "own family members". How could we support and stand-up for the rights and humanity of those foreign slaves, freeing them would have cost "our own family members" their jobs and livelihood.

Questioning and standing up against the LAWS of the land is very un-Christian and these Evangelicals are defying the Christ's message by supporting the "illegal" aliens.

"Support open borders & massive unending population growth or go to hell!!"

Subtle, aren't they?

Render unto Caesar whatever Caesar dictates and stay out of it.

How about those immigrants who overstayed their visas due to some circumstances like having a baby born in US? They were legal at that point and came here legally, but after a year or two their visas had expired and they did not have a chance to obtain another one because their immigration lawyer was stupid and did not know what he was doing?
And we are talking about immigrants who have SSN, full time workers, pay taxes, speak perfect English and obey the law!

You should understand that there are millions of people (not only Latinos who jumped over the fence) with different stories and ife situations that really want and deserve to become legal and become one of you, Americans, follow rules and laws and respect a Constitution..

"Comprehensive Immigration reform" does not mean amnesty. Let's just get that straight. I would think that most of these leaders would not support amnesty.

Also, our first priority as American Christians (notice I didn't say Christian Americans - where is your citizenship, according to the Bible?) is NOT the prosperity of the United States. Why is job protection taking precedence over the commands of the Bible? I am not saying we should forget all about intelligent economic policies, but I am saying that the most important thing is serving God faithfully, and true religion in the words of James (and "in the sight of our God and father") is "visiting orphans and widows in their distress" (orphans and widows being those in society with little to no prospects for economic or social advancement).

Also, we need to expand our idea of Christian brotherhood beyond our nation's borders. The social duty of an American Christian is NOT protecting jobs, it's caring for the most vulnerable. Jesus went to the social outcasts ("misfits" as somebody said above - prostitutes, lepers, blind, lame, poor, etc.) and people who broke the Law (and remember the Jewish law was based much more rigidly than ours on God's Law at Sinai), and taught them, and cared for them, and healed them, and fed them. That doesn't mean encouraging illegal acts, per se, but it means caring for people who may or may not have sinned (oh wait, we all have...). Call it being "soft" - I call it serving God.

Also, the "Render to Caesar..." verse is being used out of context. First of all, it's about an oppressive imperial Roman regime, not a democratic government in which we have a say in the laws that are made (and changed, if they are unjust, eg slavery). Secondly, the reason the pharisees and teachers of the law were silenced is because Jesus was basically saying that serving God is more important than serving Caesar (something they couldn't dispute, hence the silence), and was affirming that it is ok to have a civic duty. In our nation this means something very different than in Roman times (and I think everybody can agree on the fact we should be using our civic duty in respect to immigration (and the attendant economic situations in Latin America that cause immigration)).

I think we can all agree that there is something wrong with immigration in this country. That is all this video is saying - that we should encourage action in this realm.

And just to be a little controversial, I think we should all look up the United States' role in poverty-creation and political instability in Latin America before we get mad at immigrants who want to come here (see banana republics, operation condor, and the effect of free trade on developing nations' poor people).

President Obama’s Legacy has a potential of more unemployment, taxes, spending by pressing for Immigration Amnesty; telling the poor of foreign countries that if you can slip past the border or arrive by plane, we will pay for your financial support.

The Imperial court of President Elect Obama will be in session very shortly and many issues are on the Congressional list. Heed the warning that in the coming days that he is adamant on pushing through some form of amnesty for the 10 to 20 million plus illegal aliens already in the United States. The majority of people who remain unconcerned with politics, means that that they are unaware that conventional methods of being voted on in the House of Representatives, is being bypassed under this regime and not following the edicts of the U.S. Constitution? First it was the lone Obama authority to give a free pass to children of illegal aliens, which has been called the Dream Act. With the origin of the Dream Act which is children being smuggled unborn or in infancy across the thin, poorly guarded borders and agents unable to detect pregnant women arriving by plane from foreign countries that have arrived here for decades. Once on our soil they can gain as an inheritance citizenship for their progeny, which really was for the emancipation of slaves after the union and gray war. Americans must take fervent notice that their futures are in peril, with even more encouragement of illegal migrants and immigrants finding away to gain unauthorized entrance into our sovereign nation. In this 113 session of Congress the ardent listeners in other countries are going to try and reach the mainland.

Birthrights Citizenship MUST BE CHANGED by Conservative voters, who acknowledge an amendment to the 14th Amendment, will save ultimately TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS. Citizenship given to children upon arrival is skyrocketing in free baby deliveries, free health care for all family members, and free education for all the children born now and later. Only the American citizens can financially reprieve us from this constant threat of females smuggling in their unborn and the U.S. Taxpayer carry the financial burden—without end. Then once the child applies automatic citizenship, it’s hard to return the Mother to the country where she belongs. It’s like a wordless guidebook of how to beat the welfare and immigration system, which eventually leaves to ILLEGAL CHAIN MIGRATION of the extended family. After more pregnancies the mother can collect substantial amounts of money for each child, plus low income housing. Then once settled, more relatives vanquish the border or alight undetected from a plane, this one way visitor, moves in with the family already here, finds a job and vanishes. It goes without say the door should always remain open for STEM workers, who have professional and skilled credentials? But even the most developed nations in the world cannot continue, if at all—to keep supporting other countries poor migrants and immigrants..There is obvious justification for a GUEST WORKER program, but currently it is run disorganized and full of fraudulent activities. AGJobs must be regulated and when contracts expire the labor must return home and not become extra welfare weight on the American public?

Then we have the unknown numbers of illegal aliens in the workplace, while at least 23 million American and residents are either looking for a job, or have no choice to work in part-time employment. This should not continue and citizens an permanent resident holding green cards, should contact their Senators or Congressmen/women and demand they bring to the floor of Congress, the mandatory E-Verify “LEGAL WORKFORCE BILL”, so Washington must act of ridding illegal aliens who have your jobs. You can stand firm for all Americans by either using the Internet, your telephone book to see who is you servant locally, state or federal and make these laws active. Stop the special interests and Washington from selling you out. LEARN A LOT MORE AT JUDICIAL WATCH AND NUMBERSUSA.

JUDGE FOR YOURSELF THE PROPAGANDA AND UNDERHAND ENGINEERED POLLS THAT COME FROM THE SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS, THE MAINSTREAM PRESS MANIPULATED BY THE LIBERAL EDITORIAL AND OF COURSE OUR GOVERNMENT?

ATTENTION: Obama lets Chinese own U.S. energy resources.
Beijing is acquiring major ownership in oil, natural gas across nation. (Dr. Jerome R. Corsi) - The Obama administration is quietly allowing China to acquire major ownership interests in oil and natural gas. The decision to allow China to compete for U.S. oil and natural gas resources appears to stem from a need to keep Beijing economically interested in lending to the U.S. The Obama administration has run $1-trillion-plus annual federal budget deficits since taking office that likely will continue in the second term. As World Net Daily reported Monday, Beijing has been developing a proposal in which real estate on American soil owned by China would be set up as “development zones” to establish Chinese-owned businesses and bring in its citizens to the U.S. to work. All this and more will be revealed at TEA PARTY.ORG.

Dave, I'm probably one out of the one hundred that knows what is going on with Harry Reid and what he is doing, and also all the immigration issues you spoke about. The sad thing is that almost nobody else does. In addition, Obama has ordered the complete removal of all missile defense systems between the US and the southern border. The Chinese army is already in Mexico and Panama and other countries south of our border. He is not only ruining us economically, morally, militarily, but our lives are being put at great risk. He is also filtering out those in the military who would hesitate to fire upon US citizens. It's tragic that nobody else has a clue. The US will be like the ex-Soviet Union in a few years, the "gulags" already exist, it's just a matter of time. (see REX 84)

My Bible tells me not to lie, cheat and steal. Why is OK for illegals to lie, cheat and steal in the US and get away with it, taking our identities and welfare money? Churches have misdirected compassion for these people and don't care at all that so many Americans are out of work because illegals take their jobs. Even the bringing in of STEM workers has caused me and many of my friends to lose their jobs to the Asians they are dragging into the US by the thousands. We are perfectly qualified but American workers get no backing.

ONLY ONE PERCENT of illegals work in agriculture!!!!! The rest take jobs from Americans.

From the comments on this forum, does anyone support these so-called Christains views??? How dare they..we are the most generous people on earth !!!! Don't even try to put me and other Cristains on a gilt trip !!! I'll not give one dime to any church that thinks this way !!
