Canada Reconsiders Funding Foreign Aid by Ministries Opposed to Homosexuality

Christian organization receives $500,000 to promote Ugandan hygiene awareness—but that could change.

Uganda's controversial "kill-the-gays" bill is now making waves in Canada, where the federal government is reviewing international development funds allocated to an evangelical group that opposes homosexuality.

According to the Globe and Mail, the Canadian government "has denounced virulent homophobia in Uganda. As a result, it now is questioning its allocation of more than $544,000 to Ontario-based Crossroads Christian Communications, which believes homosexuality is sinful.

The funding debate prompted one Canadian member of parliament to remark that evangelical groups with these views go "'completely against not only Canadian values, but Canadian law.'" Canada has previously spoken out against persecution of homosexuality in Uganda, where a controversial bill that formerly proposed the death penalty for gays and lesbians is still making its way through the legislature.

The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada responded to the Globe and Mail report and defended Crossroads in a blog post, stating that "Crossroads has done nothing wrong" and the organization's "working relationship [with the government] is beneficial to Canadians, complies with Canada’s constitution and laws and was properly assessed based on the Canadian government’s desire for maximum value for funding in pursuit of its overseas objectives."

CT has previously reported on Uganda and its anti-homosexuality bill. CT also has reported how American evangelical leaders condemned the bill but Ugandan Christian leaders dismissed this as cultural imperialism.

The Uganda anti-gay bill is really irrelevant here. The gay agenda calls for condemnation and marginalization of anyone and any group that does not accept, approve and support homosexual behavior. The ultimate and most all-encompassing goal of the gay agenda is to force our society to fully accept their lifestyle as morally, socially, legally, religiously, politically and financially equivalent to the heterosexual lifestyle. This goal is for not only acceptance, but also affirmation and celebration of homosexual behavior as normal, natural, healthy and desirable (11, 13, 14). This is what the homosexual movement is really all about. The traditional civic virtue of tolerance is being replaced with a new ethic requiring approval and endorsement of homosexuality (11). This is why I think churches should stay away from accepting government money--where government money goes, government regulations and restrictions are certain to follow.

Why does any sexual activity enjoy special privleges onto itself never mind sexual perversion?

That's the biggest obscenity about homosexuality and the fact that the minority is hardly a visible minority unless they want to visible which is the only way they can take in new victims.

It's more than demanding tolerance, even approval and endorsement. It will become active participation just like in Sodom. "There is nothing new under the sun." Once an evil is unleashed it never rests until it claims every inch, every soul.

Whether or not you adhere to biblical evidence no one can refute that certain parts of the human anatomy have an intended purpose. To stray from that intended purpose therefore is an abnormality or perversion.
That fact cannot be denied. Two women or two men consummating sexual intercourse cannot make a baby! That makes them perverts and they should not be protected as if they are normal and their activities should not be promoted or condoned by stupid legislators passing laws to accept them into our societies as equals to the rest of us who are normal.

What people do between the sheets as consenting adults, in their bed rooms is none of my business that is between themselves alone. What really irks me about all this, is that the gay community in Canada is trying to force the Canadian to accept a life style choice as something we must accept as normal. I do not agree with the Ugandan government in trying to push through legislation to be to execute gay and lesbians. Just because I may view the gay life style as sinful doesn't mean I hate gay people. That is what the gay community doesn't get. You cannot legislate morality but you can educate people on life style choice. When relationships are based on sexual activity no matter how convinced you are of their normalicy they will be shallow at best. Crossroads does very good work all over the world they simply stated what they believe as a list of sins that are what the bible states is an affront to God. The gay community in Canada obviously does not understand that the very people they condemn as bigoted against their life style are the very people who would be showing them compassion if laws such as this anti gay law in Uganda were ever passed. Laws such as these already exist in most Muslem countries who would a gay person turn too, to escape persecution in these countries. The Christian Community. Because even though they may hate the sin they are commanded to love the sinner. To me this is a no brainier.

Gay, shmay. There's nothing GAY about homosexuality.

Homosexual activists used to say that what homosexuals do in their private lives is no one else's business. But then they refused to KEEP it in their private lives, subjecting the populations of many cities worldwide to lewd, salacious pervert-fests euphemistically called "Gay Pride Parades." Why can't homosexuals keep their sex lives PRIVATE, like decent people? OK, they want to come out of the closet, but WHY must they come out of the bedroom???

It makes me angry to be labeled a hater, bigot, or homophobe just for calling a spade a spade--for describing homosexuality as an abnormality and a perversion.

Unfortunately the sex industry will do anything it can to mainstream sexual immorality into the culture, whether underwriting the homosexual activists or buying political influence. Christians stand in the way of profiting off of homosexuality, pornography, prostitution and other sexual immorality. Which is why the sex industry puts hundreds of millions of dollars into public relations campaigns to demonize Christians as "homophobes" standing in the way of "equal rights." Once Christianity is criminalized, then the wolves will have their way
