Little mention of abortion from Sen. Bob Casey

Sen. Bob Casey barely mentioned abortion during his speech tonight at on the floor of the Democratic National Convention.

In 1992, former Pennsylvania governor Bob Casey Sr. wanted to discuss his opposition to abortion but was denied a speaking slot. His son barely touched on the subject in his speech tonight.

"Traveling around Pennsylvania, and looking around this room, I have no doubt that is exactly what we're going to do. So now let us work together, with a leader who, as Lincoln said, appeals to the better angels of our nature. Barack Obama and I have an honest disagreement on the issue of abortion. But the fact that I'm speaking here tonight is testament to Barack's ability to show respect for the views of people who may disagree with him."

I've been to Africa--where I saw babies dying in the dirt; rampant malaria, leprosy and starvation. That experience affected how I now view "The Poor" in the U.S. Most of The Poor in the U.S. have color TV, a roof over their heads and access to free education and Food Stamps. "The Poor" has simply become a war cry for politicians who want more power for themselves. IMHO. One simple answer to abortion: adoption. I have two close family members who had to go out of the country to adopt. We Americans prefer abortion. It is unfathomable to me that there are Christian leaders out there today, like Tony Campolo, Jim Wallis, and that Miller fellow who have figured out ways to justify something like abortion which has to be the most atrocious abomination to the heart of God than anything else I can think of in modern times. It smacks of sheer deception. The condoning of abortion by Christians leaves me speechless. So this is how the Church now beckons the little ones.

I am a Pennsylvania resident who did NOT vote for Bob Casey for Senator and therefore was not complicit in the ouster of Rick Santorum. I felt then, and I know now, that Bob Casey is pro-life in name only. He will not engage his constituents in a discussion about his lukewarm approach to the subject. I have responded to emails from his website numerous times - every email has been bounced back as undeliverable.

I have emailed Bob Casey directly and have not received any response. I guess because I am taking him to task due to his support of Obama, the most ardent pro-abortion candidate ever, he doesn't want to hear from me.

I respected Bob Casey Sr. I have absolutely no respect for Bob Casey Jr and his milquetoast stance on abortion. As far as I am concerned he has blood on his hands as much as the strident pro-abortion advocate(s) he supports.

We complain that Dems are for abortion, but then we complain even more about those within the Dems that are against abortion because they can't somehow change the entire platform over night. Why shouldn't we support this guy. He is taking a tough stand. He is publicly against abortion in a pro-choice party. The party has moved far enough to allow him to speak. I think this ends up being one of those situations where pro-life would rather no restrictions on abortion so they have something to rail against. Another commenters on another post actually complained about Dems attempts at reducing abortions. Every life that is saved is a life. So we should support Dems attempts at reducing abortion, even if it is not as much as what we would like. It is just like asking someone for $100 and when they give you $10 you spit in their eye.
