'What Good Fortune. ... The Stars Are Aligned'

Not to be a party pooper, but it seems to me that one of the most memorable lines tonight came not from McCain's speech, but from the video that introduced him. Here's how it ended:

"What a life. What a faith. What a family. What good fortune, that America would choose this leader at precisely this time. The stars are aligned. Change will come."

The stars are aligned?

There have been discussions about McCain being superstitious, but I can't imagine that the McCain campaign was really intending to offer a "dog whistle" to astrology fans.

But what were they going for? Gravitas? Were they jealous of the Obama comments they included in their very own "The One" ad?

Whatever the intent, it's an off-key note to sound if you're trying to rally a religious conservative base.

We noticed it, too. McCain is clearly not a Christian. He & his buddies are secularists & pagans. McCain has spent the past 8 years trashing Christians, siding with liberals, attacking the First Amendment, & thwarting many of President Bush's good policies. Like Dr. Dobson, we had decided not to vote for him. However, because he is pro-life & pro-victory in the war, because of the utter evil that is baby-killer, hate-America Barack Obama, because of the total abandon with which the evil establishment is pushing for Obama, & because of Sarah Palin's righteous stands & the savage attacks on her & her family--we are going to hold our noses & vote for McCain, hoping his silly pagan ideas like this one are overshadowed by the clear faith of people in his administration like Sarah Palin & Duncan Hunter.

The reality is by Obama becoming president of the USA, it actually helps Christians overseas and changes the perception of the US.

I will expand on this in my next post. This is a fact.

Yes Samuel, I agree, and I'm looking forward to reading your expanded post. All Christians must be aware that "The Earth is the LORD'S" (Psalm 24:1) and not the sole possession of the Republican party. I'm not American (could you guess?) and I'm constantly amazed at the insular attitude of your government. Christians must adopt policies, prayerful and practical, that liberate and improve conditions worldwide.

Don't read into it too much, The stars are aligned is just a synonym for the time is right or everything is falling into place. Get a grip would you?

John--don't be a bone head..who are you to judge someones heart? Sounds like you have your own issues to deal with...Take the log out of your own eye man.

Samuel--who gives a rip what other countries think? Obama is a panderer and wants God out of the public forum. Don't be dazzled by his showmanship,he's a salesman plain and simple. He's accomplished nothing, had trouble voting in the Senate and wants to degrade our country into another socialized weak european nation.Get educated.

The Lord created the Earth and has ultimate power...however, Satan rules this world and seeks to devour people like a hungry lion. "Liberate and improve conditions worldwide"? Really, I suppose we haven't done anything so far! Missionaries, humanitarian aid, medications, liberation of peoples, the delivery from oppression (WW1, WW2, modern Iraq), and that is just to name a few. We have been blessed by God and are able to do much.

"Policies, prayerful and practical" I agree with you on that. 1) Do not burden or stand in the way of people that can unleash the power to give and help more people(taxation). 2)Build military strength. 3) Use ALL approaches toward energy independence from unkind forgein powers. 4) Come back to true faith in Christ. 5) Balance the budget and repay national debt. 6) Stand on our principles....... 7) Monitor and build border security. That is just the tip of the iceburg. I think those are prayerful and practical.......don't you?

By the way Ted,this has got to be the most ridiculous articles and the biggest waste of time ever. I'm kind of embarrassed that I'm even commenting to it.Did you find something wrong with the statement, "my fellow Americans"? because it's a global world now and we don't want to offend anyone by calling ourselves Americans now do we? I hope you don't get paid for this stuff.

Slider..........you my friend are correct! HILARIOUS! Love it!

The religious base will be rallied, but no one else. McCain/Palin will get the evangelical vote, and a few more neocons. That will be about it. Obama will win, and evangelicals will realize they don't have the power of numbers they think they have. The ultra-conservative agenda the religious right wants to force on the populace will be rejected outright. There is a God in heaven, One who, as much as He loves conservatives Christians, never forces Himself on anyone. He wants all to come to Him freely. He is not authoritarian, He doesn't need to be, and He never gave us the right nor the ability to judge anyone's heart. There is a cancer in the religious right and it is a combative, judgmental and critical heart, especially towards enemies and non-Christians. As noble a cause as adovacating for the unborn can be, it unfortunately has become a filthy rag of self-righteousness that Christians hide behind to rationalize and justify otherwise completely unchristian behavior. There is a cancer in many non-denominational churches, a serious lack of accountability of leaders, which give them more authority over their congregation than is healthy. Many of these shepherds mix politics and religion in a breathtaking display of coercion, going so far as to question someone's salvation by the way they vote. I fear the christian right is so myopically focused on being right that they fail to be compassionate in the political arena. Compassion and understanding is not weakness--it is a quiet strength that gets to the heart of the gospel better than the vitriol that has become so heartbreakingly common in the religious right's political discourse.

This 'Jesus" you set forth is wrong. The comment of "He is not authoritarian" is wrong.......EVERY knee shall bow. Sounds like you are being more divisive than the so called "religious right's political discourse". So the political LEFT is more pious then? Why should politics not be dicussed again? Actually more people mix politics into religion and corrupt it(religion).....black liberation theology....and morph it into a distortion of truth only to further a political agenda! We can not judge a heart but we can see the fruit or the withered branch. We are called to be wise as serpents! The church SHOULD be the place where all topics are covered...Or are you putting him in a nice little box only brought out when YOU need him! In the New or Old Testament tell me where politics are not to be discussed? It seems to me that Isreal mixed religion and politics in the Old Testament and 'religious' aurthorities distorted the religion in the NEW to make them look more pious? Why should we not judge, discriminate (not racial), or use wisdom to see past false teachings/thinking?

It sounds like you have been led astray my sister by wrong thinking and the twisting of truth!

I'm with Slider - get a grip, Ted. It's an expression.

This whole "rally the evangelicals" is making me ill - we're not a herd of bison, and the Palin pick seems to be the most egregious pander to a voting bloc that I've ever seen. If he was serious about the faith issues, he would have brought in Huckabee.

Fair disclosure: I am not, nor will be confused with, a Christian. In your zealousness, how you neglect the lack of Christian principles with which we treat our prisoners? If Jesus preached compassion, where's yours? These postings are filled with righteousness and yet, Christ preached compassion and humility.

I for one don't get it. You people are all filled with such anger and distrust but full of dogma and always a verse at the ready. Why, if you really have such faith, do you not practice compassion, empathy, humility and respect for all of God's creations, including life (ie., capital punishment, not just abortion), this earth, and those who are disadvantaged?

If you lived your own your own life as you would have others, you might be a great power of example and attraction, and not some group of scary zealots.

Amazing isn't it at the amount of political rhetoric and theological BS that shows up. Not even worth replying anymore...when it is all politically driven. You know Rules for radicals...

Alinsky provides a collection of rules to guide the process. But he emphasizes these rules must be translated into real-life tactics that are fluid and responsive to the situation at hand.

Rule 1: Power is not only what you have, but what an opponent thinks you have. If your organization is small, hide your numbers in the dark and raise a din that will make everyone think you have many more people than you do.

Rule 2: Never go outside the experience of your people.
The result is confusion, fear, and retreat.

Rule 3: Whenever possible, go outside the experience of an opponent. Here you want to cause confusion, fear, and retreat.

Rule 4: Make opponents live up to their own book of rules. “You can kill them with this, for they can no more obey their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity.”

Rule 5: Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. It’s hard to counterattack ridicule, and it infuriates the opposition, which then reacts to your advantage.

Rule 6: A good tactic is one your people enjoy. “If your people aren’t having a ball doing it, there is something very wrong with the tactic.”

Rule 7: A tactic that drags on for too long becomes a drag. Commitment may become ritualistic as people turn to other issues.

Rule 8: Keep the pressure on. Use different tactics and actions and use all events of the period for your purpose. “The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition. It is this that will cause the opposition to react to your advantage.”

Rule 9: The threat is more terrifying than the thing itself. When Alinsky leaked word that large numbers of poor people were going to tie up the washrooms of O’Hare Airport, Chicago city authorities quickly agreed to act on a longstanding commitment to a ghetto organization. They imagined the mayhem as thousands of passengers poured off airplanes to discover every washroom occupied. Then they imagined the international embarrassment and the damage to the city’s reputation.

Rule 10: The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative. Avoid being trapped by an opponent or an interviewer who says, “Okay, what would you do?”

Rule 11: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, polarize it. Don’t try to attack abstract corporations or bureaucracies. Identify a responsible individual. Ignore attempts to shift or spread the blame.

According to Alinsky, the main job of the organizer is to bait an opponent into reacting. “The enemy properly goaded and guided in his reaction will be your major strength.”

Every knee shall bow is not in this dispensation. This is the age of grace--every knee shall bow is in the age to come. And there is a huge difference between authoritarian and authoritative. I also like how I can just wait and someone will attack by pointing fingers at the other side. I'm not here to discuss how everyone else gets it wrong--I'm here to point out how WE get it wrong. Isn't that how true repentence comes about? I never once mentioned the political/religious left. Also, I think it is quite telling how instantly this morphs into a right v. wrong argument, totally missing the point. If your take on faith is everything your "side" does is right and everything the other "side" does is wrong--well, no wonder the christian right always fights the world as in culture wars, the war on drugs, etc. I mentioned combativeness and instantly the combativeness comes out, proving my point. I also never said politics can't be mentioned--just not used to coerce people. I personally agree with Rick Warren that there is a separation of church and state, but not a separation of faith and state. It's just sad that in this right/wrong dichotomy anything different is instantly wrong and must be attacked.

If it is a repentence issue for you that is fine. Personal conviction is a matter of personal conviction....that is how the Spirit moves - personally.
There are theological differences that I can tolerate and some I can not.
You threw in the political reference- 'neocon', 'religious right' How is that not political, again? Do you not notice the immediate political agenda behind some of the comments?
I really don't get your point! I guess I must be a 'simpleton' compared to your intellectual greatest.

You can really tell the Dobson crowd in here...Let the witch hunts begin or should I say continue...sheesh.

Slider: You're right, we DO call ourselves Americans, but not everyone sees us that way. I'm a missionary living in a Spanish-speaking country. I'm bi-lingual and watched the conventions on "CNN en Español." Every single time a speaker used the word "America" or called us "Americans," the translation was given as "Estados Unidos" or as "estadounidenses" (the correct Spanish word for a person from the U.S.). In the Spanish-speaking countries, the word "America" refers to a continent, not a country. Yes, they're taught in their schools that America is just one continent, not two, as we are taught. Ask anyone from México, Central or South America how many continents there are, and they will always say "five." Ask someone from the U.S. the same question, and they'll say "seven." We simply view the world differently.

By the way, on the Olympic flag there are five circles, representing what? The five continents! EVERYONE but us sees it as five. By the way, in Latin America, the continents are called: América, Africa, Asia, Europa and Oceánia.

Interesting Rambler...Thanks for the insight and info...very cool.

I would take this "stars are aligned" seriously. Especially with his immoral lifestyle from youth on.
straight out of HP Lovecraft Cthulhu Mythos talk, which
though technically fictional, has been a big influence
on the thought and practices of the real heavy duty dark
side type occultists, such as the Temple of Set and its
spin offs and Feri Anderson witchcraft.

Obama, ironically, since he wants to see what can be done
to cause less abortions to happen, though not illegalize it, and saying he wants all women to get full information
before the abortion, would do more to stop abortion, than
would the technically anti abortion position of McCain.

The president doesn't rule by decree. So his position on
abortion is irrelevant. And Obama's approach would make
mandatory BY LAW the kind of information presentation
that anti abortion forces have to struggle outside clinics
to get to ignorant women.

As for any position of McCain's he is such a liar he cannot
be trusted.

Dude, you are in serious need of a life. And you don't think Obama has lied about anything? They're all liars--that's what politicians do to get elected. Get off your Obamacrat high horse put the weed down and come back to Earth.HP Lovecraft Cthulhu Mythos?--lol--where do you people come from and where do you get this crap?

It would be nice if any one of you could have an independent and honest thought about how paranoid, smug, self involved and hateful you all sound. You call yourselves Christians? I haven't heard or read a christian thought or sentiment from any of you or your posts. You're all filled with hate. If you don't first recognize the God within that lives in all of us; then don't bother looking - you are lost and deserve what is to come.

BIGOTS> One and all! May god damn you alln for your hatred.
Hey! Looks like this hate stuff is cuntageous ... huh?
