An Obama administration, in the eyes of Focus on the Family Action

Focus on the Family Action posted a pretend letter in which a writer signed "A Christian from 2012" looks back on a Barack Obama administration in 2012, including terrorists attacks on four U.S. cities.

The letter proposes these scenarios:
-The Supreme Court would lean liberal
-Churches that refuse to perform same-sex marriages would lose their tax-exempt status
-"under God" in the Pledge would be declared unconstitutional
-Doctors and nurses who won't perform abortions will no longer be able to deliver babies
-Pornography would be openly displayed on newsstands
-Inner-city crime increases when gun ownership is restricted
-Homeschooling would become restricted, so thousands of homeschooling parents emigrate to other countries such as Australia and New Zealand.
- "Since 2009, terrorist bombs have exploded in two large and two small U.S. cities, killing
hundreds, and the entire country is fearful, for no place seems safe."
-Euthanasia is becoming more and more common.
-New carbon emission standards drive many coal-powered electric plants out of business. "The country has less total electric power available than in 2008, and periodic blackouts to conserve energy occur on a regular schedule throughout the nation."

"After many of these decisions, especially those that restricted religious speech in public places, President Obama publicly expressed strong personal disapproval of the decision and said that the Supreme Court had gone far beyond what he ever expected," the letter reads.

It suggests that younger evangelicals were the tipping point for Obama's pretend victory.

"Many Christians voted for Obama ? younger evangelicals actually provided him with the needed margin to defeat John McCain ? but they didn't think he would really follow through on the far-Left policies that had marked his career. They were wrong," the letter says.

The author also proposes that every conservative talk show would have to be followed by an instant rebuttal to the program by a liberal "watchdog" group and eventually shut down by 2010. Another hypothetical scenario is that because no Christian is willing to write books critical of homosexuality, many Christian publishers go out of business.

The author suggests that Bush administration officials who had involvement with the Iraq war would be put in jail.

The author writes, "Many brave Christian men and women tried to resist these laws, and some Christian legal agencies tried to defend them, but they couldn't resist the power of a 6-3 liberal majority on the Supreme Court. It seems many of the bravest ones went to jail or were driven to bankruptcy. And many of their reputations have been destroyed by a relentless press and the endless repetition of false accusations."

This is part of the introduction:

Some will respond to this letter by saying, "Well, I hope hardship and even persecution come to the church. It will strengthen the church!" But hoping for suffering is wrong. It is similar to saying, "I hope I get some serious illness because it will strengthen my faith." Jesus taught us to pray the opposite: "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil" (Matt. 6:13). Paul urged us to pray not for persecution but "for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way" (1 Tim. 2:2). So Christians should hope and pray that such difficult times do not come. But if they do come, then it will be right to trust God to bring good out of them and also bring them to an end.

Here's a video defending the letter:

Disgusting. Absolutely disgusting.

I wonder if "Family Action" will similarly do an expose on what is possible if John McCain gets elected. Otherwise this is clearly a partisan fear tactic.

Of course most of their predictions will never come true, but the interesting thing is that this letter and video will be available for decades to come. Historians in 2050 will look back and point to this as an example of "extreme" attitudes.

All based on pure speculation with zero logic behind it for the purses of scaring people. It's par for the course for this group though. Except for the part about prosecuting Bush officials for authorizing torture in Iraq. Crime should not go unpunished.

A letter that could have been written accurately in 2000 about the Bush Administration would have to include the following tidbits:

* The worst terrorist attack in the country's history
* Two long wars in far off places with undefinable objectives and no clear path the victory
* Scandals destroying the country's moral authority around the world involving torture and human rights abuses
* The destruction of a major American city due to a hurricane and a pathetic response that results in hundreds of unnecessary deaths
* A scandal within the Justice Department regarding the illegal firing of district attorneys
* The indictment of a top official within the administration for perjury followed by the president's pardon
* The ballooning of the federal budget and the country's debt
* A stock market crash of historic proportions
* A pathetic presidency that results in historical majorities gained by the other party as well as the presidency

Wow, what an appallingly reactionary document. Is this sort of fear-mongering really the kind of political witness with which we want Christianity to be associated? There are real political issues at stake in this election - and lots of reasons to critique both candidates - but this document is just embarrassing.

As one of those young evangelicals apparently responsible for the coming catastrophe, I have to say that the Focus 2012 letter certainly makes my dissent from the Colorado Springs party line that much easier.

Focus on the Family ---All we have to offer is fear itself!!! Very Christlike of them. What utter insanity.

If you strike out "homosexual," and replace it with "Negro," you've pretty much replicated the "Massive Resistance" propaganda of my childhood. Some people have studied American civil rights history, and some people have long memories.

So, is Focus on the Family, in some "Minority Report" fashion, pre-accusing liberals of being responsible for possible future terrorist bombings? Shameful of them, if they are. Of course, in "Massive Resistance" days, it wasn't liberals who were doing the bombings...neither did they do the Twin Towers and Oklahoma City terrorist attacks.

One difference between the "Massive Resistance" era and today are the importance of environmental issues. If they had been, we might not be in the fix we are in today. On global warming, I have far more confidence in Scientific American than with Focus on the Family. One or both could be wrong, in part or substantially so...that's just life...

I'll go with a long trusted source, rather than an organization full of ill will towards "the other," and with obviously uncritical cherry picking for pseudo-scientific claims. Differences between the two are that Scientific American will self correct, always points out possible weaknesses or areas that need more study, and doesn't claim to have any direct access to "inerrant" sources...One can hardly admit that one is wrong when one claims that.

Global warming may cause a need for extreme actions, so we should start learning to conserve energy and reduce atmospheric gas emissions now. Does Focus on the Family have any suggestions on how to manage global warming? Even if it's not man-made, though there is little doubt that it isn't, at least in part, man made, it could be a severe challenge.

To meet that challenge, we need leaders with a flexible and supple intelligence, which Obama seems to posses more than McCain.

As far as accusing Obama of being against the Constitution...the man taught Constitutional Law at the fairly conservative University of Chicago. I have more confidence that he knows the Constitution far more deeper, with more nuance and more respect, than with anyone at Focus on the Family.

Churches that refuse to do same-sex weddings should loose their parishioners, but I doubt that they'll lose their tax status. Churches that want to be lean, mean political machines, right or left, should loose their exempt status.

Not to mention that the disgustingly hateful and overtly anti-First Amendment, so called "protection of marriage" amendments and proposals, impinge on the freedom of religion practice for religious institutions that do want to do same-sex marriages.

Religious schools should lose tax exemption status for discriminating against GLBT people in hiring and admitting; as it is true now for those that discriminate along racial lines.

What I found most amusing in the letter is at the very bottom, where permission is granted to reproduce the letter for "NONPOLITICAL" uses.

It would be a shame if the Boy Scouts should chose to disband, I have many nice memories of the Scouts, but it's also a shame if you participate in the discriminatory, and not just against Gay people, Boy Scouts of today.

Unbelievable. One justice change could do all that?

In the last term, only 6% (yes SIX PERCENT) of decisions were 5-4. And since when are Kennedy and Souter "liberals"? Maybe compared to Scalia and Thomas, but they're not lefties. And even they were, they were nominated by Republicans. What's to think that McCain would do any better.

There are some legitimate reasons to not agree with Obama without having to make stuff up like large scale exodus of home school families, loss of tax exempt status of churches that refuse to perform marriage ceremonies, etc. All this does is make Focus on the Family look even more out of touch with reality.

Disgraceful fearmongering.

Ok I have gone back and read the letter (15 pages of it). It is saying that Obama is going to appoint 6 justices, eliminate all public religious speech, disband the boy scouts and deny the use of any public space to groups that don't actively support homosexuality, fine churches that don't accept homosexual staff, give bonuses to gays joining the military, ban public prayer, ban use of public buildings for any religious use-like churches renting schools, ban the pledge of Allegiance in schools, revoke all licenses of any medical personnel refusing to participate in an abortion, make all gun ownership illegal, ban all homeschooling, require Euthenasia for all medical problems requiring surgery of those over 80 years old, require unions at all large employers, gas will cost more than $7 a gallon, require that all media have a balanced approach (require a liberal response in equal time for all conservative programing), and prosecute dozens of Bush officials.

Internationally, the letter says that Russia will invade "several" eastern European countries (eventually controlling more than the original Iron Curtain area), Al Queda and the Taliban will invade and take over Iraq, Iran will launch nuclear missiles against Israel (in response Israel gives up most of its land to Syria and the Palestinians), and four US cities will be bombed by terrorists.

This kind of propaganda is ridiculous. No one thinks that any of this is going to happen, let alone all of it. I just can't understand how any Christian can think that this type of false witness is acceptable.

What a joke! Is God not in control anymore?

I am left nearly speechless by such unbalanced, extreme, emotionalized rhetoric from an organization that purports to represent Christians in this country. Setting aside the questions of whether FotF's points above are realistic (which I don't believe most of them are), why do FotF have so much difficulty distinguishing between real moral issues addressed in the Bible (e.g. homosexuality, sanctity of live, not to mention greed, selfishness, pride, etc.) and matters of opinion such as gun ownership rights and the best energy sources? Aren't we, as Christ's representatives in the world, supposed to be demonstrating humility, grace, and love to those with whom we disagree? And even with regard to the real, pressing moral issues: If the earliest Christians didn't try to reform the morals of ancient society before showing them Christ's love and forgiveness, why do we think it will somehow work in our own society?

Seriously. Where is the faith in God??

Boycott Focus on the Family!

Seriously, I hope my non-Christians friends do not me accross this. They certainly will strengthen their belief that Christians are hyocrites and racists. I will definitely vote for Obama and refrain from "Focus on Dobson". At least Obama has integrity, even though I might disagree with him on some issues. My mind is made up. I will chose integrity over hypocrisy and outright lying fabrications. I cannot believe that we have sunk this low!!!!Lord, help us.

I have to say that while it may be positing a worse-case scenario, much of the letter's concerns are valid. Obama is a trojan horse candidate for the extreme secular far left. He has the most liberal voting record in Congress. You have been warned.

While I'm not an Obama supporter, this is over the top and totally inappropriate. I'm shocked that FOTF would stoop to this, and we don't need more of this circulating.

If we as believers want respect and to be heard, we must walk and act in ways worthy of respect and hearing.

This is NOT the way to do it, and I hope it dies out soon.

Nat, I'd like to address your comment that the letter has "pure speculation and zero logic" behind it. If you notice, everything in the story has basis... for example, homeschooling WAS strictly limited for awhile in CA and Christian parents AREN'T allowed to be notified of when unabashed pro-gay propaganda will be taught in schools. Christian professions ARE already being forced to chose between their faith and their jobs. NONE of that is made up!... with so many members of the court being older, the next president will most likely nominate quite a few. It's only logical to say that, if the most liberal senator becomes president, he'll nominate the most liberal judges and the most liberal policies currently in place/in the works will become official.
Besides, the letter didn't say all those things will happen, just that any one of them could happen under a Obama presidency (that was made clear in the intro).

I hope the audience that is actually influenced by FOF, et. al. dwindles in the future. This is irresponsible, and it does not promote rational political discourse. We have not been given a spirit of fear...

This is embarrassing. I find it VERY difficult not to throw brothers and sisters who write things like this to the wolves.

This, however, does not mean I'm voting for Obama.

Disgusting and appalling. The whole thing reeks of desperation and perpetrates fear. Nowhere does it contain any Christian witness or any evidence of any fruits of the spirit.

I'm no fan of Dobson anyway, but this is really a new low.

In the midst of all our divisiveness, I'm glad that we can come together from both sides of the political divide and decry FOF's latest stunt as abhorrently ridiculous. I have some restored faith in the common sense of the general Evangelical population.

I do not understand the correlation that many are making between a lack of "faith in God", "Christian witness", or "fruits of the spirit", and the ideas suggested in this letter. The fact is, the letter is simply exploring possibilities inspired by Obama's political reputation, convictions, and proposed plans for the presidency. The reason that you are claiming that this letter is spreading fear is that you don't want to believe that any of these scenarios are possible, and that is understandable. However, we can't ignore the facts about Obama's stand on the issues, his associations, etc. I get the feeling that the authors of many of the comments posted plan to vote for Obama. I get this feeling because of the exaggerated lengths that some have gone to in criticizing the explorative contents of the letter. Everyone says that this election is pivotal, and I agree. If we are in the Lord, then we all need to be lead by the Spirit as to how we should vote. Remember, none of us can claim to be sovereign, or all knowing. You might be surprised what God will have to say. We represent his kingdom, and are responsible for the future of our great nation. Yes, God is in control, but He has chosen to work in conjunction with his people from the beginning of our time ("I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none." Ezekiel 22:30) Believe it or not, the worsening condition of our nation is in many ways a result of the body of Christ having forgotten its role to ensure that "Your kingdom come, and your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."

"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." 1 Chronicles 7:14

P.S. On an even more concerned note:

For some who claim that this letter was low, it surprised me how quickly and sharply you would gather to tear down FOTF. This, sadly, shows us the current condition of the body of Christ. Different political opinions, and we become so easily divided. God is looking upon this, and I'm sure not with pleasure.

WOW. These folks are DESPERATE!

I am not a member of this group, but as a non-practicing person raised in the Christian tradition, I feel I should point out that this is the sort of thing that drives people like me away from religion.

Just because one group of people make wild predictions about the future, is no reason to change how you plan to vote. Most of the stuff the candidates promise will take place any way. I'm voting for McCain I feel he is better suited to keep us free. If we don't have freedom we have nothing.

Not to worry! Change is coming!

At the end of American President Palin's 1st term in 2012,

Christian American traditional values will no longer be whispered in secret at the White House and in Washington, D.C. (They will be shouted "Loud & Proud" from rooftops all across our Christian American Nation!)

There will no longer be any room for any forms of democracy, pluralism, or tolerance, of people who differ from us, in our country.

The religious and political liberty of the enemies of God in this country will finally be denied.

Restoration of our Christian nation and traditional American values will be complete. (Just 4 more years!)

America, along with the rest of the world, will be governed by conservative Christians and a conservative Christian interpretation of biblical law.

Convicted criminals will be outsourced to foreign countries for incarceration. (Just like American jobs!)

And that's not all!

The American portion of The Protocols of the Elders will finally be completed in our country, by our American Evangelical Church / Republican National Party alliance

and.....

Then The Prince will arrive, and he will make all political / religious parties, and elections both unnecessary and irrelevant!

And I can't wait! So rejoice and be glad!

(this) "Country First!" (the rest later!)

"Support our troops, keep America free, VOTE McCAIN-PALIN!"

"Drill, Baby Drill!"

As for the comment on the Boy Scouts- I would rather have my son (who is a Boy Scout) be led through Scouts by a decent and moral homosexual than a pedophile creep who kills people (BTK killer, among others)any day. OH HEAVENS!!! She said a MORAL HOMOSEXUAL! Everyone who is a Christian knows they don't exist!!! I'm a member of the United Methodist Church, and I believe Jesus Christ died for my sins, was born of a virgin, and rose again. My Redeemer lives and calls me to spread LOVE not vicious attacks.

I've been a Christian for many years, and I find this absolutely offensive. Such guile from the hearts of people who claim to love. I've been embarrassed by many of the comments and tactics used by McCain and Palin. However, this reached an all time low.

I am definitely an Obama supporter; anyone who upholds the Bush administration will never have my vote nor respect.

Focus on the Family is becoming a caricature of itself and makes me ashamed I ever had ANYTHING to do with them. I once was a fan of Dr. Dobson.

We have got to put a stop to thinking like this. There are a lot of mentally unstable people out there fearing an Obama presdiency.

This is the worst thing to present to non_Evangelicals since The Passion of the Christ made them violently ill. You have to wonder if Dobson is secretly in the pay of the Obama campaign.

The letter, the action, the suggestions are anything but a representation of Christian love and the mission of Christ. It is unfortunate that so many organizations hat started out with good intention's and with Gods good works eventually get hijacked by self interest.

Mr. Obama's credentials as a Christians and his organization of churches to come together for Gods good works, if anything, are representative of what the churches and organizations like Focus should be spending their time with.

We will never legislate morals, nor Christian beliefs, and shouldn't. In my mind most of the social problems and wars of this planet have been due to the lack of effectiveness of the Body of Christ, the church, in its ministry because they get distracted and manipulated away from their primary mission of service and teaching.

Articles like this one are an extreme disservice to that mission.

It's hard not to be troubled. 15 pages of hate and fear is a lot. The topic given primacy (and the most real estate) was homosexuality. No matter how I look at today's world, I can't find room at the top of the list for this. Plus, somehow - in the context of a Christian message with a focus on the family - the end of the war is a negative. My weak theology and shaky faith tells me Jesus would also have stopped the war. But what do I know? I'm not even an NRA member.

How about some neutral information?

I perfer facts over speculation.

Shawn and Denise, thanks for being the voices of reason in this discussion. For those of you who are saying the Focus on the Family is trying to use fear tactics, that the letter is full of lies, or that it is "extreme, emotionalized rhetoric," please provide precise evidence that none of this will happen.

Translation of letter: Dr. Dobson's ego really loves to be the king maker of the Republican Party and to get to rub elbows with the President. Dr. Dobson's ego really loves to have high ranking politicians (pretend to) listen to him. Dr. Dobson's ego really loves to have "millions" (or even thousands) of Americans look to him as the oracle of virtue, morality, and direction (and to send money to his "ministry"). So, unless you knuckleheads want to disappoint Dr. Dobson's ego, you will vote for Governor Palin and that old guy (even if you are now thinking that such a vote is not your best interests) or else you will face a grim future of continued temper tantrums from Dr. Dobson's ego. Get in line, knuckleheads!

For those of you on Facebook, please protest this letter by joining: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=30055124462&ref=mf

This is despicable. It is an all time low for focus on the family.
See the similarity with McCain/Palin campaign?

"The most liberal senator ever"...

Isn't that what's generally said about every Democratic Senator who's ever been a presidential candidate in the last few cycles?

The fact that any of your ire has to be tempered with caveats about how you "are not Obama supporters" only demonstrates how polarizing your community is. Why? Because you know that the way legit critique will get neutralized is by painting you as the opposite extreme--as if that's the only reality there is

The sad sad sad thing to me about this letter is this:
Too many of you evangelicals deep down "agree" and the money isn't going to dry up and shut down someone like Dobson.

How a "therapist" has turned into a "Christian King-maker" (an oxymoron if I ever heard one) and political "expert" is sadly not beyond me.

Why?

Because your communities made him.

I suggest you all have a responsibility to un-make him.

This letter is disgusting.
But save some of your disgust for yourselves and your fellow church members.

And then do something about it.

I have never been ashamed to call myself a Christian until this point. This has to be one of the most atrocious acts the Christian church has ever taken part in. If real Christian leaders (Rick Warren, Rob Bell, John Piper- did you guys read this?) do not publicly denounce the outrageous claims of this document then I believe the Christian church has already suffered a greater loss than anything proposed in the letter. I am ashamed of you, James Dobson.

I am so disappoined and bewildered that FOTF could consider this a Christ-like way to express their political opinions. Doesn't the Bible say "perfect love casts out all fear." and "fear not, for I have overcome the world!" I've supported FOTF for decades but this is the second shot of fear tactics and spreading of lies and gossip by their Action arm of the organization and I can't in good conscience give any of my money or time to them again. I"m withdrawing my subscriptions to Brio and Breakaway.

Shows lack of faith in God. Is thinly disguised racism. Would they have written that if Obama was white? I hardly think so, since they didn't go it for McCain and especially Palin.

This is outrageous and embarrassing. Do you want this to be a "Christian nation"? Then get out of your fear box and love people! No matter who is in power, the Kingdom of God will come when his people actually live out love.

Do you think outlawing abortion is going to transform the lives of teen girls who are making choices about sex? NO! Their lives will change when YOU invest in them and THEN there will be less abortions...

Do you think that banning gay marriage will keep people from living a homosexual lifestyle? NO! Their lives will change when YOU stop talking about "unabashed pro-gay propaganda" and actually befriend homosexuals and show Christ's love to them.

Yet we're so scared of actually being face to face with this world, we would rather the US government just make a law about it. Let me remind you, folks, that the US government is not the church. It is flawed, as each of us is. The only hope for this nation (and all nations - because Jesus came for them all) is the power of God working through His people.

The only one who has lost my vote in this election is Focus on the Family (...and Christianity today for even posting this...)

It is articles and attacks like this that have turned this life-long Republican into an Obama supporter. I was leaning toward McCain, and then the attacks Started. I think these attacks say much more about the "character" of the attackers than the character of the man they are attacking. Unable to find facts to support their bias against the man, they have turned to fiction. Is there some hidden racism here?!? Reminds me of the Steven Curtis Chapman song "What about the change? What about the difference?" Why have so many "conservative Christians" turned into such mean-spirited, small people? Where is the grace that is supposed to characterize our lives and conversation?

I don't quit eunderstand why people cry "fearmongering" when many of those things could become realities, and should instill fear in us. Just like seatbelts. I wear them out of fear of possible injury in a car accident. Sure, I could say... oh brother, I'm not going to be in a car accident, and true, maybe I won't be. But it only takes one accident with one time not wearing a seatbelt to cripple or kill me.

How are we so certain that the above scenarios won't or can't occur... so certain that we dismiss it with a roll of the eyes in the name of "fearmongering?" Can any of us predict the future? There certainly is enough evidence from Obama's statements and voting records to give some credence to those possible scenarios.

I think that we often live in a sort of denial... no one thinks foreclosure will happen to them, or divorce, or crime, or a terrorist 9/11 strike, or New Orleans, or Hitler killing millions of Jews. We don't like painful realities, and we usually aren't prepared. Many people decided to "ride out" hurricanes, thinking that it's just like all the other times... nothing will happen that they can't handle.

And people don't think a "nice guy" like Obama, one who talks well, looks good, etc... if President, could possibly end up in those above scenarios. "Bad" things like the above scenarios certainly will never be realities because those kinds of things just don't happen in this country. Well, Jews don't usually get sent to concentration camps and cities don't normally turn into terrorist targets, and the point is... things can happen... things that we could never imagine or want to deny. They can happen.

Most of the above scenarios are very logical outcomes of Obama's stance on things (abortion, homosexuality, the Fairness Doctrine), but not only Obama, but Democrats also who might very well be w/o a checks and balances if they win their 60 seats. The untouchables in a way. And all of their supporters (Planned Parenthood, Hollywood, etc) who lead the way for "tolerance" in this nation... including tolerance of immorality, secularism, consumerism, etc.

The Democratic partyis fiercly supported by Hollywood, liberal media, Planned Parenthood, athiests, etc. and now they have a leader who is like-minded with them. So, again, I ask... why is any of the above only "fearmongering?" and without any truth to it?

I live in CA where recently a group of San Francisco 1st graders went on a "field trip" to their gay teacher's wedding. Where recently, legislators passed the "Harvey Milk Day" to be celebrated/taught in schools, in essence, celebrating the life of Harvey Milk, a gay CA activist (now deceased). Fortunately, our governor vetoed it. Where sea turtle eggs have more protection than unborn babies. Where people worship Mother Earth but not Jesus Christ because Mother Earth is more real than a foolish Bible story.

There are plenty of other happenings as well... a gay man who's suing Zondervan for publishing the Bible which causes him mental distress. A New Mexico photographer fined $6000 because she refused to photograph a homosexual couple (or wedding). A doctor sued for refusing to inseminate lesbians. And on and on and on. So, again, why can't the above happen?

Obama has said (to Planned Parenthood... look up the Youtube video) that one of his first acts of Pres. will be the Freedom of Choice Act while will use taxpayer money to fund abortions. Democrats are already talking and planning about reinstating the "Fairness Doctrine" which will basically, IMO, inhibit free speech. There are already countries who do practice euthanasis with elderly people because nationalized health care is expensive. Obama wants nationalized health care. Already, people have tried to get rid of the Pledge of Allegiance and with a liberal-controlled Supreme Court, why couldn't that happen? Who's to say it won't?

There WILL be Supreme Court appointments under the next Presidency and with Obama's record as the most liberal Senate member in U.S. history, he will surely appoint justices likeminded with him. And if there is a 60 seat Democrat rule, surely they will easily be approved.

Every single one of those above scenarios could happen and should intill fear, but as humans, we like to live in a state of denial. Look at all the Biblical stories. The days of Noah for instance. They mocked Noah and laughed. Yah, right a flood! Whatever. Same with Hitler. Yah, right he's gonna do atrocious things. Whatever. We can be a very foolish and simpleminded people (aren't there enough Biblical admonishments about that? Don't we get it?), and we shouln't just flippantly dismiss the above scenarios.

Reading these comments truly reminds me of Noah. I can hear him now... prepare yourselves as the people cried "fearmonger" and went about their normal lives, laughing, living, etc. How dare he stoop to such a level as to say such a thing like a huge flood is coming. He's an idiot, a fearmonger, stooping to a new low. And of course, I'm sure all the people saw right through him... well, until the flood hit and wiped them all out, of course.

Focus on the Family has sadly become the poster child of a so called Christian organization gone astray. To the outside world they look like a right wing political group posing as a Christian organization. They have distorted the message and character of Christ by wrapping the holiness and purity of Christ in right wing conservative politics and the slime and tactics that comes with it. In their zeal to battle the "evil liberal sinners" they have become as modern day Pharisees. Their faith appears to be in political power and might rather than trusting the transformative power of love through Christ. So they have picked up the stench of that which they have placed their trust.

This is unbelievable !!!! We have certainly sunk to a new low printing garbage like this !!!! I am no great fan of Dobson myself, but just who does he think he is...GOD???? I am a Christian woman, and when I read junk like this it makes me very angry. I do not believe that Christian leaders should be telling anyone how they should vote, and definitely should not be using scare tactics to try and influence people. I thought we lived in a land of freedom...not a land where our religious leaders use their influence to try and bully people into voting for their "choosen" candidate.

I also ask, where is the faith in God? Do they really believe that if Obama is elected, that God is no longer in control? And where is the faith in the Constitution? The first amendment protects our religious freedom. I guess that's what bothers Focus on the Family--it also protects everyone else's.

James Dobson has been scapegoating homosexuals for all the problems in our society for a while and clearly has disturbing fantasies about how they really are going to be the end of civilization as we know it.

There is nothing Christian in this document. In fact, it seems a lot like what a certain self-righteous group in Jesus' time might dream up to prevent "sinner" from challenging them.

God bless Focus on the Family. I am not ashamed to stand beside you. It still amazes me how so many people can blindly follow someone and not see what they are really like. I pray that these things don't happen, but I can see the writing on the wall. McCain has opened his medical records, donation records even the small donations. Obama hasn't. What is he hiding? There is a lot more informatiion out there that you should read before casting your ballot, or one day it may be too late to say. "I didn"t know."

Watching Focus on The Family degrade from a wonderful support for families into a pit bull for the GOP over the past decade or so has been like watching a loved one slide ever deeper into the grip of drug abuse or alcoholism. Hopefully this is rock bottom and Evangelicals will realize that when you prostitute yourself for political gain, the result is bad for both our Christian witness and the political process. We should be a prophetic voice, not a pit bull on a chain.

Well, we will become an "Obama-nation"

Rachael, what hasn't Obama opened up?

Sarah Pulliam, you did an excellence job of reporting on this hateful fear-mongering partisan political attack on Obama, but what's it going to take for Christianity Today to openly rebuke Mr. Dobson for this kind of stuff? This is shameful. Dobson has lost any sort of credibility with thinking Christians.

Have focus on the family forgotten GOD? Have focus on the family fogotten the basis for american prosperity? That all Men are borne equal, that there is a basic but fundamental American dream? That all men, women and children can achieve? This propagando is in very sharp contrast to the biblical priciples that have guided me over the years. This is absolutely shameful of focus an the family to spread such guile. To God be the glory for his saving grace. Don't overplay God's love Dobson and mask it with that so called christian rhetoric!

There is an alternative to Focus... http://www.amfmonline.com

I'm not an Obama fan - heck, I'm not even American, but I have to say the letter from Focus on the Family is embarrassing and does not best serve the purposes of their ministry or politics at large. Very disappointing. (Homeschoolers are welcome here in Australia FWIW)

Hmm.. Actually these kind of activities would strengthen the possibility for Obama to win. But I don't understand how a man who runs after models and dumps his first wife and goes after a second one for looks and money. spills his guts when caught by the enemy etc etc could be labeled as a 'Christian - favorite'. BTW that person could lead us to war with Iran also. Just a thought.

Another hypothetical scenario is that because no Christian is willing to write books critical of homosexuality, many Christian publishers go out of business.

I mean, I KNOW there is a lot of dreck published by Christian publishers, but who knew that anti-homosexuality books were the bread and butter of religious publishing?

Sheeeeesh...

Your letter borders on deception. To publish something as extreme as this shows a desperation in you and an absence of putting your trust in GOD. Shame on you James Dobson.

Sarah Pulliam, thank you for reporting on this hateful fear-mongering partisan political attack on Obama.

What's it going to take for Christianity Today to openly rebuke Mr. Dobson for this kind of stuff? This is shameful. Dobson has lost any sort of credibility with thinking Christians.

If any observer might incorrectly assume that Dobson speaks for "christianity," here is the best of all reasons for them to remain unbelievers!

(At first, I thought this was a joke--but that's not quite what I expected from CT. So I checked back--the referral tie to FoF seems legitimate enough.

This is so sad. I used to think that Dr Dobson was wonderful, in his care for family life and Christian principles within that area. I now wonder what happened to make him go off track. It is possible that one or more of these things could happen under Obama as president. It is also possible that one or more these things coujld happen under McCain as president. I do not understand why anyone who uses his wife's considerable fortune made from the sale of alcohol, who left his first wife because she was disfigured in an accident and married his mistress, who has lied repeatedly in this and previous campaigns--how can this person be the savior of our country. Render unto God what is His. We are not adrift in a sea of evil, we are held in His hand.

I am actually encouraged by the overwhelming condemnation this letter is receiving from followers of Jesus. Are you listening Dr. Dobson? Are you listening CT editors?

Fear fear hatred and more fear. Has Dobson finally lost it completely? This is beyond shameful -- it's a tragic embarrassment. I recommend contacting FoF at the number below to voice your displeasure:

1800 AFAMILY (232-6459)

Render unto God what is His. That includes our future in this country. McCain, nor Palin are the saviors of the US and I do not understand why they are being touted as such. When did we lose sight, as Christians, of the fact that God is in charge no matter who is in charge of politics. Doesn't the Bible say that the powers that be are ordained of God? God is not limited by the president or Congress or the Supreme Court, but is able to work through whomever is elected. I suggest we put our money where our mouth is and start trusting God, no matter the circumstances.

If most Evangelicals take this "pretend letter" seriously I officially and in writing resign from being considered or even affiliated with anything Evangelical. The problem is to whom do send in my resignation??? The NAE, CT Magazine, SBC?

PS. Someone please make up a letter that would outline a scenario if James Dobson became president.

Wait, isn't FOTF a "Christian" organization? Methinks they don't get the politics of Jesus, for they have created a new god in their own image and it is not the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Jesus Christ!

Forgive us JESUS! Open their eyes Lord and show them what is in store for America if we don't turn our hearts and lives back to you who is the Lord and Savior of the United States of America~
Hallelujah! Praise be to Almighty God! We all need to get on our faces and seek guidance from Almighty God! His Word says if we humble ourselves and pray we will be saved! America needs
saving. I will not vote for a man that once was a Muslim.
We have to come to our senses before it's too late! Don't
be fooled. Muslim is the fastes growing religion in the US. My prayer is that JESUS will come soon. I'm ready to go to be
with my Lord and Savior. I've got me a mansion in Heaven.
Do you?

At the beginning of the letter is states that we Christians should continue to love and support one another even with our differences. My real complaint about this letter is how does this show love and respect to Obama, a fellow believer? And even if you don't think he is a Christian (who are you to judge) we are called to love our enemy. While this letter may point to some hypothetical outcomes, it shows nothing of the Christian ideal of love which is what we are called to show and where we are called to live, even in politics.

I think this is the lowest point that Christianity Today has sunk to. To post this utterly distasteful diatribe on their website is utterly disgusting. I'm canceling my two year subscription immediately.

Absolutely disgusting. Focus on the Family should be named Focus on Intolerance, Prejudice and Hate.

This is yet another reason that I abhor fundamentalism!

Repellent, as we have come to expect from this fine organization and its principled leader whose life is a model of Christian behavior second only to the Lord's.

I thought I was the only one disappointed by Dr. Dobson and Focus on the Family in recent years. I used to think a lot of him years ago when he stuck to his expertise: advice on family. I am glad to hear that I am not alone in my thinking. This article is very troubling not only to me as a believer, but for our country in general. Such vitriol and vehemence. It scares me. God is in control, not Dr. Dobson, and certainly not the Republican party. I do not understand why Dr. Dobson is suddenly so entralled with McCain after he shunned him in 2000 and 2004. I'm just stunned by this about-face. I'm voting for Obama for many reasons, not the least of which is his compassion for the poor, families, the down-trodden, his personal conviction that life is sacred, his steadfastness, his family values and his positive determination to make this a better country. I'm weary of the negativity of the McCain/Palin duo and their gracelessness. I am PRAYING that Obama and Biden are elected on November 4.

I have often been ashamed of aligning myself with Christians in the past, especially when it has come to Focus on the Family.

However, this letter gave me some hope. If parts of this are what the future looks like under Obama, then I am thrilled. Civil liberty for homosexuals? Well its about time we stopped oppressing people and treating them like sub-citizens. Teachers not forced to lead students in the pledge? Well, thank God. I have never felt comfortable declaring my allegiance to the country (we're residents of a KINGDOM, right?). Carbon emissions standards? Its about damn time!

It is ridiculous and an absolutely perfect example of where Focus on the Family goes wrong. Conservative values? What about the values of Christ? Dignity, charity, grace, and love. Where are these, FOF?

What a sad day when fearmongering is not challenged by the Editoral staff of CT..Equal blame is shared by both parties.

How sad. (Not the letter so much, but all the mean-spirited comments.)

God help us!

How tragic that "Christians" could even think such terrible acts...this does nothing for attempts to "win souls for Christ!"
Focus on th Family is losing its once high credibility factor. God is still in control and ther "sky is not falling" just because we may face some changes in our government. This is still the United States of America!

After reading the first two comments I can see how some of these things could be a reality. It is typical of an idiot liberal to blame Bush for the hurricane. As far as his alledged illegal activities connected to the war, I think a review of Clintons administration will find an equal if not greater amount of error. I think there is far to much judgement being slung around this nation. I wonder what God thinks about all of this. Focus on the Family is presenting a senario that could be. not actually, but merely a hypothetical. I am of the opinion that younger evangelicals are being sold a bill of goods and need to awake to the consequinces of electing Obama.

Letter from 2012 if McCain wins-

=McCain dies from a heart attack in 2009
=President Palin is an utter failure, as her lack of control sends the markets into a nosedive, causing the Dow to go below 5,000.
=Unemployment leads to riots, after all 3 of the big 3 fail and close shop, due to an influx of ultra cheap Chinese and Indian cars.
=American military might and ability falters, with wars in Iraq, Iran and Georgia straining the military to the breaking point.
=China invades Korea and annexes the entire Korean peninsula as a new province. NATO and The US stands by helplessly, due to international depression.

OK, so I can be just as outrageous as the FoF guys...personally, I hope NONE of these predictions ever come true.

Is Focus on the Family a Christian organization? Their letter is filled with inuendo and fear-mongering. These are hardly marks of a Christian organization. I suspect they more of a political action committee of the GOP and McCain-Palin campaign.

Who condemned Dan Brown for his work of fiction that was supposedly based on fact ? So ... somebody writes a fictional story that they 'think' could happen if one politician is elected and all and sundry want to lynch him/her.Get a grip ! Whoever it is is just as entitled to write a story as anybody else in the land of the free.
And ... don't let FACTS influence a voting decision. If a candidate openly supports homosexuality and abortion, in DIRECT contradiction to Gods' Word and it doesn't bother you, don't let it bother you, you aren't really a Bible BELIEVING Christian anyway, so your eternal destiny is the same as the politician's.
After all, it may not really happen ... just as some of the other promises may not happen. Read the Bible America and PRAY for God's opinion to be expressed in your vote rather than your own, "for ... you are not your own, you were bought with a price ..."
For Christians, honoring Jesus Christ takes precedence ABOVE and IN EVERYTHING, so a candidate that expresses policies that are as near as imperfect man can get to Biblical standards, should be the option God's children should give careful consideration to.

How did Focus go from '"Between Parent & Child-Teen" to "the sky is falling, the sky is falling" if you don't agree with me. I don't think I want to listen to someone that puts this type of rubbish out when it comes to my how do I raise my children!!

Well, after 40 million abortions performed in this country, tell me,
FOM, what does this country really deserve? Huh?! I think, regardless of who is elected, this country will get what it deserves
and remember that God has appointed rulers and we are to honor and respect them, unless they go against God's Word!

Steve, instead of saying that the letter "is filled with innuendo (two n's) and fear-mongering" like others are saying, perhaps you and these others in this forum would like to enlighten us on these aspects of the letter.

Dobson and Focus on the Family might do well to read and take to heart this article, also in CT

http://www.christianitytoday.com/leaders/newsletter/2008/cln81013.html

Someone requested that those of us who find the letter repulsive and unchristian prove that the things it predicts won't happen. Aside from the inherent difficulties with proving a negative, I'd think it's incumbent on the letter's author to offer factual evidence to support their predictions, and to do so in a tone of Christian charity and humility. We should be able to expect those who call themselves Christians to speak the truth in love. Unfortunately, this did not occur.

People love to quote II Chronicles 7:14 as a call to America to repent, but actually it was about Israel after Solomon and the nation's sacrifice and repentence. Certaiinly it bespeaks a pattern of God hearing and redeeming those who turn to Him and how that happens in God's kingdom. However, America is not the kingdom of God, and to apply it to the particulars of American 21st century national politics is something of an exegetical stretch, to say the least.

Is it because Obama is a democrat that Dobson hates him? Or is it because he's black? This makes my skin crawl.

"If you notice, everything in the story has basis... for example, homeschooling WAS strictly limited for awhile in CA..."

I am a California lawyer who has represented a number of ministries. The above statement was never true. Homeschooling was never limited by the interim decision of the California Court of Appeal which has since been clarified.

Obviously, FOTF does not read the Sermon on the Mount. Which group from His day, does FOTF remind you of? And if we wonder WWJD?, what do you think He would say to FOTF which supports and has buddied up with a political party while its leaders make excuses to go to war? St. Paul did not care who preached the Gospel, as long as the Word got out, but Jesus condemned those who claimed piety and judged others,as Dobson does. Obama claims to be born-again, and he acts like it.McCain copies his favorite Russian prisoner/hero's story about a POW guard making a cross in the sand and jokes about bombing other countries.

I find this letter from the future very entertaining. Of course none of this will happen, or if any, it will be to a very small scale. I also liked the comment with the possible letter from 2000, about a Bush presidency.
Seriously, the letter in question shows a great lack of faith in the part of Focus On The Family. I was reading my Bible the other day and read that GOD selects our leaders. And in Isaiah it says that Cyrus of Persia would be used of GOD. So, Yes we have a responsibility and a privilege to vote. We even, by GOD's grace, have the right to choose who we want to vote for, BUT GOD is always in control. I voted early for Senator Obama and I hope he wins. But no matter who wins on November 4, GOD is my/our Sheppard/Leader. Good luck to both of them. Thank you.

Of course, I wouldn't vote for Obama. Neither would I vote for John McCain. James Dobson once said that he would not vote for McCain under any circumstances. It seems that he has broken his promise. I was hoping against hope that he would stick to his principles.

Fear-mongering at its most blatant. Deeply disturbed by this as a Christian. The far right take no responsibility for their failures- a staggering debt, failed schools and children, thousands of dead soldiers (with no wmd's in sight!) ruined reputation abroad, but instead lack humility, show no grace, no compassion for the poor, and place no value on educating and providing health care for America's children.Christianity Today has sold out to a "name" but a name that is not in my mind synonymous with Jesus and His followers.

I used to think that Focus on the Family was God-Inspired. Feed my sheep, Care for the children. Now it is so sad. Focus on BEING a sheep. I am embarassed for Dr. Dobson. I am embarassed for the entire organization. It has gone from "McGee and Me" to McCain and the RIGHT."What is really tragic is that the name FOTF will forever be tainted, from being a leading Christian Family Organization to one that has no more relevancy (via this letter) than the John Birch Society, the Klan, the radical brance of the ACLU. Again, I am so sad for what was once and can never be again.

Has anyone heard of free speech? There has been a lot of anti McCain free speech accusing him of things he hasn't done (like voting all the time with Bush), and also, free speech against Sarah Palin, accusing her of things, too. Of course, it has been on both sides of the ticket, but is that not our right to do so?
FOF has hit a nerve, apparently. But, the Christians I have talked with have voiced this very concern. As Christians, yes, we need to love, but we need to call something as it is or could be. Sin is sin. Both candidates and VP selections are sinners; we are all sinners. But, one candidate's platform is for future sin...killing of innocent babies. We, as Christians, need to quit being afraid of being politically, culturally and socially correct and stand up for our beliefs and free speech, which by the way, can be done in love. But if you read the book 1984 and Animal Farm these were but examples of an author's use of free speech to show future governments and I think the author of this is exercising artistic freedom of speech. If anyone wants to write a McCain administration, it's okay, too. However, I don't think there would be as much material.

It is amazing to me that following ideas to their logical conclusion can stir up so much distress. If it becomes law that homosexual behavior is a civil right, then all the power of state and federal tools will absolutely be brought to bear against any who believe otherwise. Why does anyone doubt this.? Are you reading what is going on? Are you paying attention to Massachusets? I believe in love too, and I believe in kindness, but I do not agree that upending ancient and world wide concepts of sexual morality is good for society in the long run. I guess we will all be waiting to see... but it is not disgusting to be alarmed... it is alarming...

I don't come to this web site much. Occasionally I've seen some real thought-provoking articles. But I'm appalled that Christianity Today would post this drivel on its website.

This is NOT fear mongering. This is a reality check for those of you who think this can't or won't happen. IF Obama is elected and we end up with a congress that is a democratic majority, there is no stopping the liberal agenda. Christians are already beign persecuted in this country and abroad -- it will only get much worse. We all need to pray without ceasing over this election.

Cybereagle777 --

First, Sen. Obama opposes gay marriage. So, why would he support legislation that would not only mandate gay marriage but also take away the tax exemptions for churches that refuse to perform gay marriages? Even the most radical proponents of gay marriage have not suggested that churches be REQUIRED to perform gay marriages! (All they want is some simple equality from their own government!) And, even if such a law were to be passed, we have that thing called, you know, the First Amendment. And, even if you believe that a liberal U.S. Supreme Court would just make up whatever "law" they wanted to impose, there is absolutely no precedent for limiting religious speech from churches in a religious setting (as opposed to when they provide secular services such as running an amusement park or leasing property to the public). Even the Lawrence v. Texas sodomy case, whether you agreed with it or disagreed with it, had a lengthy discussion of the history of privacy rights, including extensive discussion of precedent.

Second, no one has suggest that "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance is unconstitutional. Rather, the case about "under God" in the Pledge concerned whether CHILDREN could be forced to say the Pledge (or forced to declare their opposition) in school. (And, it was overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court because the father did not have standing the bring the case.) This has nothing to do with making it generally unconstitutional or prohibiting the saying of the pledge at voluntary events such as ball games or scout meetings.

Third, what makes you think that progressives or liberals would support having pornography displayed on newsstands? This is the sort of slimy character assassination that Focus on the Family is so good at. In reality, the vast majority of liberals are good citizens, good parents, good friends, and good patriots, just as the vast majority of conservative are.

Fourth, I don't have time to do all your research for you.

I attended a UCC conference several years ago that hosted Mr. Obama (a UCC member at the time) as a speaker. His speech was a profoundly moving and an inspirational effort to encourage people to open dialogue with fellow Christians who may differ in opinion on some issues, but share in the belief of the saving grace of God through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Everyone is entitled to their opinion on matters pf faith and politics - as is certainly the Focus on the Family and its effort to "Play Prophet." I choose to try to walk the road of redemption, grace and love - no matter who wins in November.

How sad that Focus on the Family has to result to the ridiculous fear mongering, especially if we were to take the ten commandments as a template for following Christian virtues as well as the sermon on the mount. Though we could certainly cast a few stones at all politicians for being a false witness and lying, McCain has also broken the commandment regarding adultery, a character flaw and sinful lifestyle Focus and other prominent Christians are deafly silent as if they practiced moral relativism.

SO WHAT? -Wendell Franklin Wentz

Dr. James Dobson and the folks over at Focus on the Family need to go back and carefully read Luke 9: 51-56 before writing a letter of such malicious nature.

How very sad. Followers of Christ are to be known by their love and other fruits of the Spirit. I don't see Jesus in this letter.

Wow! And here I thought Mr. Dobson didn't celebrate Halloween. But isn't that nice of him to give us a scary ghost story just in time for the holiday. Um, Mr. Focus on the Funding Dobson, don't you know the best ghost stories have SOME element of truth in them. It is just ridiculous to "prophecy" that any of this would happen in just 4 short years. Obama is just going to be too busy cleaning up George Dubya's messes from the last 8 years. The last two weeks of an election always brings out the wingnuttery from the party that is losing.

Our first three presidents, who the Christian right hails as god-fearing men, were not actually Christians. George Washington never spoke of Jesus, rarely went to church, and did not take communion. John Adams was a Unitarian Universalist; Thomas Jefferson was a deist, slave owner and an adulterer. Yet the Christian right so often holds them up as god fearing, model leaders. Methinks the ladies do protest too much.

After reading the FOTF letter in question and reviewing Obama's record on the issues discussed within, I think that sadly many of the scenarios might be possible under an Obama administration. I did not find that the FOTF letter was hateful in tone or that they engaged in fear-mongering as some have suggested. Instead, it appeared to me that they were simply calling on Christians especially to carefully and prayerfully consider Obama's record on the issues and the possible unintended consequences of an Obama presidency. FOTF further clarified the letter as follows:

"This letter is not 'predicting' that all of the imaginative future 'events' named in this letter will happen. But it is saying that each one of these changes could happen and also that each change would be the natural outcome of (a) published legal opinions by liberal judges, (b) trends seen in states with liberal-dominated courts such as California and Massachusetts, (c) recent promises, practices and legislative initiatives of the current liberal leadership of the Democratic Party and (d) Senator Obama’s actions, voting record and public promises to the far-Left groups that won the nomination for him."

FOTF goes on to state that "there are many evangelical Christians supporting Senator Obama as well as many supporting Senator McCain. Christians on both sides should continue to respect and cherish one another’s friendship as well as the freedom people have in the United States to differ on these issues and to freely speak their opinions about them to one another."

Over the last several months of the campaign, Obama has carefully marketed himself as a social moderate especially to the religious community. Based on the number of pro-Obama comments that I have read on this site, his strategy appears to be working. Despite all his campaign promises and rhetoric about concern for the middle class and poor, his record is the best indicator of what he would actually do as president, and that record is decidedly liberal.

I have to say that I am surprised at the numbers of pro-life believers who are supporting Obama in the belief that even though he is staunchly pro-abortion that somehow his policies will end up reducing abortions. He does not support continuing federal funding for crisis pregnancy centers despite the fact that they save many children, and he has promised that his first act as president would be to sign the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA). FOCA is an extremely pro-abortion piece of legislation that would undo hundreds of anti-abortion laws / policies and end up increasing the numbers of abortions that are performed. In addition, he supports the repeal of the Hyde Amendment that blocks almost all federal funding for abortions. During the next 4 years, the next president will likely have to appoint new Supreme Court justices, and the types of liberal judges that Obama has indicated that he would appoint could for the foreseeable future negatively affect many issues that Christians care deeply about.

Christian author and teacher,Randy Alcorn, has written many excellent articles on his blog (http://www.randyalcorn.blogspot.com/) concering Barack Obama's position on abortion and the reasons why he supports John McCain. I would encourage everyone to read some of his articles as you decide who you should vote for. Even though John McCain is not a perfect candidate and has some positions that I strongly disagree with, Mr. Alcorn does a good job of describing why many Christians feel that John McCain is a better candidate for president.

In his Thursday, October 16, 2008 blog entry entitled "Not Cool: Obama's Pro-abortion Stance, and Christians enabling him", Mr. Alcorn states:

"But Obama is savvy. He wants to attract young voters, including young evangelical Christians who are sort-of-prolife. He knows to say that he favors reducing or limiting abortions. Which is like limiting rather than criminalizing murder and rape and kidnapping and slavery. A candidate could say 'I’m personally opposed to rape,' while he has a 100% voting record favoring the legality of rape. And he could say he favors limiting or reducing the number of rapes. But if he actually supports the legality of the hideous crime of rape, discerning people would see through his rhetoric of rape-reduction."

I know that abortion is not the only issue of concern to Christians. I am deeply concerned about the poor, the hungry, the orphans and the oppressed in various parts of the world, and as believers, we should reach out in love to help those in need. However, I cannot vote for someone who advocates the killing of unborn children even if he may have good ideas in other areas. No other issue has the same moral weight in my mind. Regardless of who is elected, the next president will certainly need God's wisdom and our prayer support. May God give us wisdom as we cast our vote.

Finally I will close with a quote from Randy Alcorn's 10/27/08 blog entry:

"May God have mercy on us. And may we, in our hearts and actions—including our votes—have mercy on the smallest and weakest of God’s precious children."

"For God will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help. He will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death. He will rescue them from oppression and violence, for precious is their blood in his sight." (Psalm 72:12-14)"

We should pray that Dobson and all of the others at Focus on the So-called Family would come to know our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is impossible to believe that any true Christian would engage in such hate filled fear mongering. Focus proves what many on the left have always suspected, it is only a Republican Political Action Committee and not a Christian organization.

It wasn't that long ago our kids could pray in school now it's only acceptable when someone is shooting up that school. How did this happen? Because Christians did not stand up for what was right!!!!!!!!! Dr. Dobson I sincerely hope you do not read these comments but if you do here's a word of encouragment; Thank you for using your public voice to stand up to what you believe is wrong no matter the criticism. God bless you; you and your staff are in my prayers!!

I am not voting for Obama. This letter does seem over the top and rather silly - but I'm not laughing. If there had been a similar letter about 9/11 before it happened, I'd have laughed my head off.

As a pro-life Democrat, I have struggled with how to vote. I would love to have Obama be staunchly pro-life. However, I can continue to work passionately for pro-life causes locally and nationally without kowtowing to religous demands that McCain is the only choice for "true" Christians. He even stated unequivocally in the last debate that he would hold no litumus test for Supreme Court nominees, and proudly stated he had voted for 2 pro-choice judges. I am to sacrifice the future of our country for that kind of "pro-life" vote? That said, if Obama is elected, and none of these come true, we will know clearly that FOTF is not Spirit-led. Scripture is clear on how to test false prophecies. If even a tiny bit is wrong, the entire prophecy fails. They should have approached such a letter with fear and trembling as it could destroy any believability if they are in any way wrong, which I believe they will be. Sad.

I am amazed that these people think that all will continue to be peaceful. Doesn't anyone read prophecy in the Bible, Daniel, Ezekiel, or Revelation? Christ NEVER said we would have peace in this world. The world is full of persecution of Christians and these people are sure it could never happen in America.
All these people are closing their eyes to what is happening in the REAL world. We can't choose the parts of the Bible that we want to believe in and leave the other parts off.
I feel bad that so many people would criticize Dr. Dobson for pointing out the truth. Wake up America before it's too late.

I think it sounds very believable based on all that I have studied about Obama. I am very embaressed and disappointed in all the Christians who are voting for Obama. He is for abortion...it's not a lie. I have done a lot of research myself. His wife did a fundraiser to try and keep partial birth abortion legal. Obama was declared the most liberal senator in 2007 (Hillary Clinton was #16). God help us if he wins the election. And for those of you who are planning to vote for him, God help you. I believe that as Christians we will be held responsible for our actions. I read someone's comment that said they were voting for integrity rather than on issues. Doesn't how he handles the issues show his integrity. We need to use a little common sense here. I'm not saying this was a good idea for FOTF to put this out, but I can definitely see a lot of it happening.

This is embarassing as a Christian! This is why we have such a tough time winning people over to Jesus! We react like THE WORLD does yet preach differently over the pulpit! Where is our faith (trust) that God can change anybody's mind, and heart to include Obama? Obama is not unreachable to God! I'm going to trust God with him should he win that office; simply because I know God can change any situation or person! You speak as if all our former Presidents were perfect and never caused national/international embarrassment! I am an African-American who voted for Pres. Bush twice to my deepest regret! Yet I hold no malice towards him. I pray for him! There is none perfect! Neither Obama nor McCain will do a perfect job in an imperfect position! I'm a pro-lifer and therefore disagree with Senator Obama strongly on that issue alone! But I'm sure I do something biblically wrong everyday! Big sin -v- little sin! But God is the judge! I have no idea as an African-American why he would support such a thing and it breaks my heart! As for these predictions, is FOTF now claiming to be Prophets?! Do they want it to happen just so they can say I told you so?! My prayer is that if Obama or McCain gets it, God will change their hearts on things that are displeasing to God; just like He did with me! God is revealing what's in our hearts during this election as Christians. All I can think about is how did Jesus feel about the poor, the rich, love, peace, the mouth, vengance and judging. Right now, we are all falling short of God's glory! Just pray for Obama and pray for McCain. Two imperfect people seeking to fulfill an imperfect position.

We need to spend much effort in spreading the gospel and not fear. We seem to be so wrapped up with the things we oppose we tend to forget the issue. Lawlessness has brought us so far with ugly head of corruption but now people arelooking for the evil to be the law of the land. The Republican party ruled congress and senate for a while now but they dared not change the abortion laws and many of them resigned in disgrace. Now the liberal democrats seem to be very appealing to the very base instincts we should guard against. I think we have come to a junction where the framers never thought we would be: lawlessness exalting tyranny.

For anyone who thinks that none of our first three presidents were Christians and that Jefferson was a deist, although they were not perfect, this is an altered history that began to appear in the latter part of the 20th century, put forth by liberals who wish to cover up our nation's Christian heritage.

I like the last bit at the very bottom of the letter, where reproduction rights are granted for "Non-political" uses.

Regardless of who is President, unfortunate things will happen. Hohow will Focus on the Family contribute in ameliorating them? This letter does not give confidence in that organization.

This type of reactionary, mean-spirited, fear-mongering, and attempt at guilt manipultation is EXACLTY why young evangelicals have given up on Focus on the Family and the Religious Right. Is it any wonder why they'd vote for Obama? Even if they don't agree with everything he stands for, they certainly aren't going to vote Republican if this is how Christian conservatives view the world and the spirit manner in which they respond to it.

If you read Revelation as God gave it to us, without annotations, it's pretty clear that "Antichrist" represents people who claim to follow God while giving their true allegiance to the powers of the world. By choosing to put politics ahead of the most basic CHristian values, Dr. Dobson (along with many other leaders of the "religious right") has shown definitively whose side he's on.

What I find interesting is that when secular writers and filmmakers go to extremes to make a point, they are extolled for their creativity and willingness to push the limits of the genre.

When a religious organization does something similar, it is out of bounds.

Go figure.

And they'll know we are Christians by our...

*sigh*

...nevermind.

I am not a US citizen and cannot vote. However, I am a Christian who finds it interesting that we are so quick to jump on the head of one who supports abortion and yet will fully support another who supports a war that has killed more people than abortion in the US. A war that was based on lies (sin), and still more lies (more sin). The last I checked, both are sin and we are all being hypocrites to pick one sin over another. My prayer for American Christians is that you all return to God! May He who sits on the throne CONTINUE to have mercy on us all. Amen.

I'm ashamed. If they get to call themselves Christian, can I change my title to something else?

Will this is a great opportunity to voice my feeling as a Christian Democrat. When did the christians differ in terms of christianitly? Why has this happen in the USA? I remember when the far Rights spoke of Gay men & AIDS. No one speaks of that. We learn to get along with our neighbors. Now what with the shedding of innocent blood of the WAR???? Is this RIGHT to fight for OIL?
Can't we pray for our own resources here in this God given country of In God We Trust......

It is in every way Christian Love to warn someone who is about to make a decision that has the potential to harm their lives and the lives of future generations. The ideas of Barack Obama have great potential to do great harm. I am grateful to Focus on the Family Action for speaking out and I hope they don't buy the nice-sounding yet very deceptive lies that say it is "not nice" or "not Christian" to speak truth.

I am disappointed in Focus for publishing this. I enumerated my concerns and offenses in an email and respectfully requested that their 2012 Letter be retracted.

If you would like to do the same, I urge you to send your comments to citizenlink@family.org.

It's pretty obvious that alot of these posts crying "shameful," etc. were written by the same person. I find nothing shameful, embarrassing, or anything else wrong about this letter or James Dobson.

Dobson recently won an award as radio person of the year, beating several other popular radio personalities (including Howard Stern). His show reaches millions and touches millions of lives. So I find it strange that all these people come to this Christian website and say how disappointed they are, etc. It's the SAME person writing all those posts and very obvious.

Obama is THE most pro-abortion presidential candidate in the history of the U.S. Now tell me, how does a Christian reconcile their faith with abortion? How can you call yourself Christian and yet vote for a man who eagerly and enthusiastically fights for abortion rights, who accepts millions from Planned Parenthood, who finds nothing wrong with abortion. When you someday face God, how will you explain why you voted for this man... why you basically supported someone, KNOWING full well that he advocates abortion, partners with pro-abortion advocates, and even said (to Planned Parenthood) that "the FIRST thing" he'd do as Pres. would be to sign the Freedom of Choice Act?

Your vote for him... is your vote for abortion, the killing of innocent unborn life... and you WILL one day stand before God... and you WILL have to give an account of why you voted for abortion... why you did not fight it, why you did not elect a pro-life candidate, why you did not protect the unborn.

And, I also say that your Christianity must be very shallow if a letter like this makes you want to not be called "evangelical."

And I wonder what your reaction will be years from now, if Obama wins (God help us) and many or most or all of those scenarios, and worse, happen. You will have no one to blame but yourself.

I myself am in agreement of the post by Janet. I too was being deceived by the silver tongue of Obama. My husband and I have debated continuously on who should be President and I was always for Obama, but as my husband has said look into to your heart and pray and let the holy spirit guide you to find the information you need to make the right choice. I have, and boy have I researched and found information on Obamas time in office and his past voting choices and issues he has supported are everything that I and my husband oppose as christains. The letter is indicating what he has always stood for and it is only a make believe letter that could arise if he was to be elected as President. Read, fellow christains on policies that he has supported and voted for you will be suprised as I was. I am grateful for my husbands advice. Believing that I am not the one in control but God is; has guided me to answers. So those of you who claim to be christains and are upset about this letter; ask the question, why are you upset about a fellow christain site alerting fellow christains the possibilities that could arrive; why would you not think that God has stirred this person to write this letter, it may be a forwarning; Read revelations; or would something like the chapter of Revelations be too upsetting to some of you. We as christains and our beliefs have become weak in supporting one another and condemning each other is exactly what many nonbelievers and christain haters are thrilled when we attack one another. This letter gives no indication of hate for Obama; only it lists points of what he has actually voted for and spoken up for. So those of you upset I feel badly for you and hope that you pray and search deeply within you as to why you are upset with this letter when it does not provoke hate; maybe its your own spirit stirring within you and making you question yourself on your own decision and what if this letter proposes somewhat truth to it? God Bless All and Pray before voting and let God guide you to your decision and not the media or others.

To Pastor Alan;
I'd say FOF is on God's side, they are not afraid to speak up and put their reputation on the line for the sake of God's Word. All these matters they have written in the fictional letter of 2012 are matters that we, as Christians, should be concerned about.If you read Revelation as God gave it to us, without annotations, It's those who claim to be Christians but are yelling about how we should be politically correct, and spiritually correct and accept everybody's way. They calim to follow Christ while giving their allegiance to the world of correctness. They are the ones who have put aside the most basic Christian values (Re: those mentioned by God in His Word) to follow after the world's view, the popular view;
They have adopted a theology that everyone is right and all ways lead to God and we should be loving enough to just keep our mouths shut and not let the world know they are headed for eternity without God..that would be Hell. Oops. I said the politically incorrect word.
Anyway, thank you, Focus on the Family, for the fictionalized account of what could happen based on what we know, today, about Obama. It's time that we wake up Americans. They've been sleeping too long and cannot distinguish between a dream and reality.

Ha ha, this is so dumb. Looks like someone is a little preoccupied with Homosexuality, just like Ted Haggard. Typical.

I am ashamed to be associated with these people who call themselves "Christians." Do they realize how much they have in common with Islamic fundamentalists. They are the best reason for our country's having a separation between church and state. I hate to think of what they would do if they had control.

I cannot believe this trash from CT. This is another prime example of why change must come. I am embarrassed beyond belief by these irreligious unrighteous right wingnuts. What kind of pills are you people on?!
I am also embarrassed to be a Christian because of these fear-mongering diatribes.
Please get off your sand pile pulpits and stick to Christian principles...as if you knew what those were.
You CT people are truly disgusting! And I now back Obama 120%. I didn't before but this article is laughable! I hope it comes true!
GMMelby, Pastor

Why are there duplicate (to the word and punctuation) letters here, signed by different people...?
Can't you even think for yourselves?
I blamed CT for this article when I should have slapped FoF and Jim Dobson. CT should be kicked hard for publishing this article.
What utter rubbish FoF sprews!
GMMelby, Pastor/Chaplain

If you're going to toss out the letter simply because it poses a scenario as to what might happen if Obama is elected, then you might as well stop listening to Obama, McCain and those running for public office. Because all they can give is scenarios of what they plan to do in their administrations.

They can make promises but that doesn't mean they'll come to fruition. And then You might as well stop watching movies and reading any type of fiction.

Several doomsday plots come from the same place the letter writer got his/her future, imagination.

Who's to say some of it won't happen, who's to say it will. I pray it won't, but if we're all honest, no matter who's in office life isn't going to be rosy. And for those Christians out there, doesn't Revelations speak about a mess. Doesn't scripture say to be aware and be prepared. And MORE IMPORTANTLY PRAY. As for this letter, It's a fictional account of the future. Leave it as such.

While the FOF letter is a hypothetical worse case scenario, I believe some of it is probable. The hour in which we live is the Biblically referenced eleventh hour. One that ends in judgment of the earth by fire. Scriptures tell us in Mathew 24, Revelations 16 what is planned for this hour, unconsionable sin and the rightous wrath of God. Our country's persent economic collapse, presidential choice, and international opposition are signs of the darkening skies of judgment. As the apostle wrote to the Thessalonians, you have no need that I write you of the times and seasons.

What we see culminating in the stock market,US politics and in world conflict is merely the stage being set for the one world government, the antichrist and the final judgment. Again we are not as those who are asleep, are we? FOF's letter while very radical, is also supported by holy scripture.

It is all planned by God and foretold by God. We should not be afraid, we must be prepared and abide until He comes. And He is coming very soon.

And we wonder why young people don't want to sit in our pews anymore?! Sadly, many Christians are this ignorant. They are motivated by HATRED AND FEAR, and foster those feelings in their church. How absolutely disgusting. I would much rather be known as a gracious person than a hate-filled one. I say err on the side of grace.

According to CBSNews.com, only months ago, Obama did not outright say anything about supporting gay marriage, but also was strongly opposed to banning it. The same can be found in a Washington Post article.

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/07/02/obama_opposes_gay_marriage_ban.html

This next article, addressing what you said about “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance being declared unconstitutional is a little older, but still shows that it has happened before in the following legal ruling from 2002.

I can’t remember specifics, but there was a case in the last couple of years in which a liberal group argued that removing pornography from newsstands was a violation of free speech. A settlement was reached in which the group agreed to allow the business to keep the magazines behind the counter. Of course, I will admit that not all liberals would have supported this.

There have been various instances in which liberal courts have taken on more power than they are allowed, meaning that adding further power would not be very farfetched if given the right situation. In terms of limiting speech within a church, this has happened in other nations and, with enough support for this move, could easily happen here.

And we wonder why the term ''Christian'' is now a joke to most. The ''Christians'' like these folks, whom have the platform to reach a large audience use that platform to spread hate and fear not love and peace, as Jesus did. As Christians are we not supposed to emmulate Christ? Maybe you all at FOF should go by a different name and stop making a mockery of the one that associates us with Jesus.

Totally abhorrent and disgusting.

As the pastor at Pikes Peak Metropolitan Community Church in Colorado Springs (where Focus on the Family is headquartered), it is rather needless to say that I am tired of these kinds of actions. I look forward to the day when the "arc of history that bends toward justice" (MLK) will allow us to see the end of faith-based fear tactics.

Until then, I stand with those who in Colorado Springs and other small towns throught the country and world who speak a more loving, welcoming, and gracious message--news that is actually Good News.

Thank you to all of you in the Christianity Today community who share this vision. For those of us here at "ground zero," you provide hope.

Three words: pathetic, desperate fear-mongering.

"This might happen under an Obama administration" - if anything is possible, then I guess monkeys flying out of Dobson's butt is possible too.

Kidding aside, this is just another example of FoF's vile attempts to influence elections. Come on, FoF; you're either a partisan lobbying organization or a non-profit church...you can't have it both ways. Separation of Church and State is an essential component of the democracy created by the founding fathers at the birth of our republic.

I'll give you a scary dystopian image: an American theocracy intolerant of diverse views and opinions. A system of laws blindly based on the Old Testament (how of the laws in Deuteronomy would be followed today...don't eat pork, don't eat meat with milk, women -bow down to your husband. Hey, does anyone know the time and date of the next public stoning?) There are some countries who already have these strict religious laws...just look at some of the countries in the middle east. For example, Iran's mullahs have a tight, intolerant grip on the government and society...is that what you want?

I pity those who actually believe this letter...can't you see you're being manipulated? Don't believe the hype. Develop some independent, critical thinking skills. Question authority. Don't blindly follow the directives of a political-religious organization.

Sarah! It's good to see you're still doing well over at CT. I wish you the best. I work for CCDA (ccda.org) and we just finished our annual conference. I didn't hear any mention of this letter, but it seems pretty recent.

FOTF is in cahoots with the McCain/Palin Campaign. This fear of "undivided government" is one of their main talking points right now. What they fail to realize also is that what they consider to be Far-Left/Liberal is misgauged. They have slid so violently to the right that their perspective is flawlessly skewed. I'm also surprised that they believe Liberals want to quell free speech and keep people from opportunity. I suppose that when you willfully expose yourself to the fringiest of fringes, your filters become immunized to the closer shades of nuance.

Thanks for the good work!

This is one of the groups that have made me have to qualify that I'm not "one of those kinds of Christians." I am proud to say that I've known the author of the following letter since we were both in our mothers' bellies. He gave me permission to share it with whomever...

An Open Letter to Focus on the Family, October 29, 2008

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

For over a generation, Focus on the Family has aided families in promoting Christian values in a culture that is often destructive toward the nuclear family, children, and faith. In the heat of ongoing social upheaval on many fronts, Focus on the Family has provided stability, consistency, and in more recent years political involvement and activism. While appealing to a wide Christian audience, Focus on the Family’s theological convictions provide clear answers to many of the challenges Christians face today. Many look to Focus on the Family for guidance. Like Christians around the world, my own church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America has struggled to find its voice and clarity around many of the issues Focus on the Family has engaged.[1] I freely admit that we have not always done an adequate job of articulating what we hold as our central value: Christ’s redemption of sinners upon the cross, proclaimed in faith to all, lived in service to others. For that lack of clarity, and at times politicized ambiguity, we have only ourselves to blame.

With the level of commitment Focus on the Family has to the “social institutions of family, church, and government for the benefit of mankind”[2] it is surprising to read the Focus on the Family Action article, “A Letter from Obama’s America 2012.” [3] This hurtful letter is full of speculation, fabrications, and malice toward Senator Obama only days before the presidential election. It is no secret that Dr. Dobson and Focus on the Family are supporters of Senator McCain in this election, as it is their right to do so. But let me be frank is saying that this letter clearly has gone over the line of decency, a value I believe we can all agree on we share. The intentionality of such a document is clearly to defame publically the Senator’s good name. God’s command is clear, “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor” (Exodus 20:16; Deuteronomy 5:20). Martin Luther explained this commandment in the following manner, “We are to fear and love God, to that we do not tell lies about our neighbors, betray or slander them, or destroy their reputation. Instead we are to come to their defense, speak well of them, and interpret everything they do in the best possible light.”[4] It may be possible that someone published this letter using your organizational name without your consent. If that is true, I share in your outrage. (The letter is unsigned by its author, making it somewhat suspect). However, if this letter is indeed of your own publication, it must be retracted immediately, and an apology offered to Senator Obama, your faithful followers, and the American public. Both Senators in this presidential race seek a better future for our beloved country. Both have strategies to accomplish this critical task, while they differ greatly in perspective in how to achieve it. Let us direct people to make well informed decisions by pointing them to the candidates own statements and plans outlined on each of their respective websites,[5] rather than sinking to the lowest form of political character assassination. No Christian should engage in such hateful tactics, regardless of how much he or she seeks their candidate to be elected.

In John’s Gospel, Jesus confronted those who would stone a woman to death for adultery. According to God’s command, they believed it was their obligation and duty to do so as faithful people (Leviticus 20:10; Deuteronomy 22:22). Jesus confronted them by saying, “let anyone who is among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her” (John 8:7). When they laid down their stones, Jesus told the woman, “Go your way, and do not engage in this sin again” (John 8:11). Sisters and brothers in Christ, this letter from a Christian in 2012 is a stone’s throw away from the fanaticism spread through hate and fear that we as a free people deplore. While it is indeed right and salutary to defend our rights as American citizens to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness granted by the US Constitution, it is also our duty as faithful Christians to stand in the fray to proclaim Christ’s reconciliation to sinners. It undermines our Christian witness in word and deed to say that we defend truth, while at the same time we not only turn a blind eye to injustice, but also engage in spreading viscous lies and rumors.

I hope you will consider retracting the “Letter from Obama’s America 2012.” Christ calls us all to lay down our stones as he meets us at his cross. May God curb our tongues, strengthen our nation, and work through our witness of reconciliation, as we elect our leaders next week. In faith and courage, let us not engage in this sin again.

In the peace that surpasses understanding, in truth and in love,

I don't know when and where people of 'religious' or rather Christian leadership forgot to encourage the People of GOD to pray for God's will to be done concerning all matters of state and home. But just to reinforce what the Word of God says, let's continue to pray for God to give authority to who He chooses and that the man who is in this position is sensitive to the voice and will of God, is obedient to His [GOD Almighty's] commands, and is submitted to following God BEFORE leading this nation. And a dear friend reminded me that God holds the heart of the king, or in this case the president, in His hands, therefore He [God Almighty] will determine the direction of the president's heart. Let's have faith in the Will of God and not in the fear of man. "Perfect Love knows no fear" because the opposite of love is fear.

The letter I received back from Focus on the Family after my complaint
__________
Thanks for your e-mail, Adam. It was good of you to offer your candid reaction to Focus on the Family Action’s “Letter from 2012 in Obama’s America.”

We’ve heard from many people who found this resource helpful; some, like you, have disagreed with our approach. While critics of this document accuse us of engaging in “sensationalist fiction,” it’s vital to underscore that we are not claiming to make definitive predictions on what a Barack Obama presidency would produce. However, as the “Letter from 2012” makes evident, every scenario outlined in this piece is plausible based on recent documented events, court rulings, the Democratic Party’s stated agenda, and Senator Obama’s voting record and campaign promises. We invite you to re-read the introduction of the letter [http://focusfamaction.edgeboss.net/download/focusfamaction/pdfs/10-22-08_2012letter.pdf] which clearly states that we are neither employing unfounded “fear tactics” nor speaking out with mean-spirited intent. On the contrary, we’ve posted a reasonable projection of what *could* occur with a Senator Obama presidency and a Democratic-controlled Congress. Of course, we hope and pray that none of the possible outcomes described in “Letter from 2012” come to pass.

It might be beneficial to provide some additional background on our mission to help you better understand our reasons for engaging in the public policy realm. We have no interest in partisan politics; rather, we care deeply about the sanctity of human life, the value of marriage, and the preservation of religious freedom. Dr. Dobson has espoused these crucial issues since he launched Focus on the Family in 1977 and has always encouraged people to consider them at the ballot box. Despite what pro-Obama action groups may say, we contend that Senator Obama’s record *significantly* differs from the pro-life and pro-family policies that many Christians hold dear. Some may label this “fearmongering” -- we call it a sobering, rational assessment based on actual events documented in the letter.

It might be helpful for you to read a concise summary of four key points that motivate us in our actions:

1) Senator Barack Obama’s record is well outside the mainstream. For example, he was rated the most liberal United States senator by the _National Journal_ in 2007 [http://nj.nationaljournal.com/voteratings/].

2) A Democratic president, House and Senate has significant implications for pro-family policies. _The Wall Street Journal_ has stated that this election will usher in “one of the most profound political and ideological shifts in U.S. history” if the Democrats control the White House and possess congressional majorities, including a filibuster-proof Senate [http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122420205889842989.html]. This type of unchecked power, not seen since 1965, demands that voters critically examine the policies advocated by the Democratic Party.

3) Senator Obama’s commitment to causes championed by extreme liberal groups such as Planned Parenthood Action Fund and the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), both of which have endorsed him, are a source of great concern. Earlier this year, Senator Obama pledged that if elected president, he would advocate for and sign the “Freedom of Choice Act,” which would repeal virtually every federal and state law regulating or limiting abortion -- including parental involvement laws for teenagers, late-term abortion bans, and limits on public funding of abortion. He has also indicated that he will make it a priority to repeal the “Defense of Marriage Act,” which allows states to restrict marriage to one man and one woman. In addition, he backs other HRC-supported initiatives including the passage of “hate crimes” legislation and the “Employment Non-Discrimination Act” [http://washingtonblade.com/thelatest/thelatest.cfm?blog_id=20935]. Similar legislation has penalized Christians who hold a biblical view of sexuality.

4) Senator Obama’s stated appreciation of United States Supreme Court Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer, and David Souter -- along with his votes against the nominations of Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito -- indicate he would appoint judges with a judicial philosophy detrimental to pro-family causes.

Again, thanks for writing. We hope this response has helped clarify our perspective and explained why we feel it’s necessary to take a sober look at the troubling elements of Senator Obama’s candidacy. Grace and peace to you.

I am shocked at the number of commenters who feel that this hypothetical letter is far-fetched. Most of the potential issues listed have actual precedent in recent times (which has been footnoted throughout the letter). Knowing Obama's record, associations, and rhetoric (especially his pre-campaign rhetoric), this letter is definitely NOT fear mongering. These things are a very possible reality. I am reminded of the words of one of the heroes of our democracy. “It is natural for man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth, and listen to the song of that siren till she transforms us into beasts... For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth, to know the worst, and to provide for it.”--Patrick Henry.

True followers of Jesus remember which kingdom is forever and claim the gifts of mercy love and grace. The temporary treasures of civil liberties, freedom of religion, cheap energy supplies, etc are the products of an earthly kingdom and their alleged suspension is only fearful for those who's religion is material.

Cybereagle777, the articles you cite do not support the propositions for which you cite them. I guess I DO have to do your research for you.

First, the "CBS.com" article you cite is actually an opinion piece on the CBS cite written by Rich Lowry of the right-wing National Review. It is not a news article. It's not surprising he doesn't actually acknowledge what Obama has repeatedly said.

The Washington Post article actually states that Obama opposes gay marriage. CNN says the same thing. http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/issues/issues.samesexmarriage.html

Here is Obama himself explaining his opposition to gay marriage but support of civil unions. http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/politics/2008/01/25/sot.obama.gay.marriage.wls

You provide no explanation of how tolerating states' choices to permit gay marriage translates into a policy goal of REQUIRING the states to issue marriage licenses to gays and REQUIRING CHURCHES to perform gay marriages. If what you've cited above is all you've got, well, then, FotF has sunk into the pits of deceit and dishonesty.

Second, the Fox News article does NOT say that the court "declared the Pledge unconstituional." What the article says, and what the ruling did was to declare that "schoolchildren could no longer recite the pledge, at least in the nine Western states covered by the court." It is the FORCING of children to say the Pledge that the court barred -- not the saying of the Pledge voluntarily by adults. This ruling has been overturned by the US Supreme Court. Here's the US Supreme Court decision. http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/scripts/getcase.pl?court=US&vol=000&invol=02-1624

And, as the Fox News article states, immediately after the anti-Pledge ruling came down, the US Senate UNAMIMOUSLY passed a resolution opposing it! How can you and FotF believe that a decision that was UNANIMOUSLY rejected by the US Senate is in any danger of being replicated by a Supreme Court any new member of which must be confirmed that same Senate (even if the Senate is more liberal next year than in 2002)? Again, using this as a basis for claiming the doom and gloom posited by FotF is just deceitful.

As to the pornography case you sort of remember, isn't the compromise you mention actually a good thing -- allowing the publishers their free speech rights (as much as I hate what they publish) yet protecting those (particularly children) from having to be confronted with the pornography? There is a long history of precedents permitting just this sort of regulation of the "time, place, and manner" of speech even without suppressing the content. How does this supposed case support FotF's assertion that a US Supreme Court with new Obama nominees would permit the open display of pornography on newsstands? Once again, just falsehoods from FotF!

Focus on the Family has adopted the BIG LIE policy -- make up the biggest lies you can think of, repeat them often enough, warn people away from avenues of news so that they can't get to the truth, and finally the BIG LIE becomes the accepted wisdom. It may be successful, but it's hardly Christian. So sad.

It is amazing how so many people refuse to face reality. Most of what the letter says is based on obama's own views and statements.

Dr. Dobson thanks to you and your organization for being bold enough to reveal what obama would be capable of trying to do.

More power to you.

Reading all of these posters slam FOTF for this letter has been the most encouraging thing this Christian has read in a long long time. Shame on you Mr. Dobson. Shame on you.

I am an evangelical Christian, a frequent listener to Dr. Dobson's radio program and a member of his internet mailing list. I received the "vote your values" email from him, but I did not receive this one. I wrote a response to Dr. Dobson's email, and I would like to share an excerpt with you:

"Last week I received an email from Dr. James Dobson – whose internet ministry I subscribe to – imploring me to “vote my values,” meaning to vote for the candidate whose “pro-life” and pro traditional marriage rhetoric carried Dr. Dobson’s stamp of approval. My immediate thought was: Why should I vote two of my values to the exclusion of all others? In that question lies the problem of the Christian allegiance to the Republican Party."

The entire response is here:
The Conservative Christian Case for Supporting Obama

It's time to change the dialogue...

Christian homeschooling in the classical method, my son and I are studying formal logic together. Yesterday's lesson was focused on determining the difference between "possible", "probable", "not possible" and "not probable". I couldn't help but notice that the gentlewoman representing Focus on the Family, who I presume is part of their legal counsel or public relations, used the phrase "probable scenario" to describe the speculation found in the letter, but almost immediately followed with the statement that, "we're not saying any of this will happen, just that's it's possible...". (an event is 'possible' if there is any chance at all that it will happen; 'probable'if it is more likely than not to happen.) So which is it?
Is publishing such a letter and defending it in this way responsible behavior? Is it prophetic? Is it helpful? My answer is that while it may be 'possible', it is not 'probable'.

luke 18:8
When the Son of Man comes,
will he find faith on the earth?

Thank you Lord, that there are still people in this world
that remember that GOD and not THE US GOVERNMENT are in
control of this world. Do we really think that
God cares that much about US politics? Didn't Jesus
himself say "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God
what is God's?" It's been well documented that Dr.
Dobson can't stand Obama, for whatever reason. Who made
him a political expert anyway?

Michelle,

Having gone back and read the letter again. I realize, it's probably not me, you were addressing.

I humbly apologize for answering when it wasn't meant for me.

God bless.

So in other words, what you’re saying is that while Obama has made clear his opposition to a marriage protection act and that he will, if elected, repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, because he and CNN say that he’s against gay marriage, he’s against gay marriage. Oh yeah, that makes sense.

Also, as for the Pledge of Allegiance case and the pornography case (which did happen, although I can’t remember details), you have to understand the big picture. The Pledge of Allegiance case showed that there was support in the courts for this and it was only saved by a Supreme Court decision. If Obama-appointed justices were confronted with the same opportunity, it could easily be different. The pornography case, in addition to various situations involving library systems across the country in the past few years, shows that there is a movement toward total freedom to display these publications in the open. It is not hard to imagine both cases being used as stepping stones to the more extreme situations discussed in the letter.

The lack of covering churches being forced to conduct gay marriages was an oversight on my part. With the increased movement toward gay-marriage, it is not hard to see a liberal legislature, president, and courts allowing this to happen.

Therefore, these are not lies. They have a factual basis that must be considered when reading the letter.

I'm disgusted by FOTF and have been for many years. This is just ridiculous. I am encouraged by those comments that see this for what it is, but am terrified for those of you that defend FOTF an their atrocious behavior.

The comments about this being a Christian nation scare me as well. Christ did not come to the United States, He did not come to bless one nation over another. In fact he didn't care about boarders, or ethnicity. Why do you diminish Christs sacrifice by tacking to our country.

Don't misunderstand me. I love our country but it is just out of luck that I was born here and not in some other country, that had I been born in I would love just as much.

This is such a huge topic and covering all the stupid ideas we Americans hold in regard to our religion and our politics will never fit in a couple paragraphs on a blog. Whatever happens God is big enough and we should trust in his good and perfect will. And pray vigilantly for our leaders.

"Besides, the letter didn't say all those things will happen, just that any one of them could happen under a Obama presidency (that was made clear in the intro)."

Couldn't any of these things also happen under the McCain regime? Didn't terrorist attacks happen on God's son's watch (GW Bush, the phoniest, most hypocritical Christian to ever walk the earth)? Will all of the gay people on earth suddenlt disappear if McCain takes office? Will gay folks not get married ever again in private ceremonies that the state doesn't know about? Focus on the Family is the real trojan horse. They are using Christianity as a veil to spew evil and scurrulous accusations and to strike fear in those who are blindly faithful to the words of Dr. Dobson and not necessarily Jesus. Regardless of who is in office, the world is going to hell in a handbasket and the end is near so the best thing to do is get your salvation in order rather than debasing a good, decent human being. That is totally un-Christian.

After reading the letter, I think it is waaay over the top. I'm definitely supporting McCain, but there are far more legitimate reasons to not vote for Obama than the doomsday scenarios laid out in this document. I could list a dozen off the top of my head, but this is not the forum for that. In any case, I have to agree that this is just fearmongering. FOTF should just stick to family issues and raising children. They are much better at that than at politics. If Obama does win, I'm hoping he remembers that he is president of all Americans, not just the 51% or so that voted for him. Govern from the center! God bless whoever gets elected.

How about a letter from a McCain 2012 where Roe v. Wade is overturned and women are dying by the thousands from back alley coat hanger abortions?

George Washington was an Episcopalian, John Adams a Congregationalist; Thomas Jefferson was indeed a Deist, who wrote a condensed version of the Gospels, omitting the miracles of Christ.

I have no comment on James Dobson or his letter, and am not a big fan of Senator McCain; however, I believe Senator Obama, with all his "charisma" may be leading his followers down a seemingly attractive but slippery path and only God's grace will help us recover from it. However, who said American Christians would live free from hardship and persecution???

It's time for God to shut down Focus on the Family. This is disgraceful, shameful, and full of outright lies. Yes - the people at FOF are liars - which is even more sad than anything because their reach is so widespread, and overall they've done some really good work and the fruit of that good work is evident.

What is also evident is sinful arrogance. All I can say is the Pharisees couldn't have said it better.

As Christians we should all be united in a few things no matter who is running for president. First, we should vote for a president who DOES NOT condone abortion or partial-birth abortion. Second, we should make sure that the candidate we vote into office best represents our values, morals and standards. Lastly, this person should have high respect for 76% of our population who state they are Christian. This letter is extreme at best. I believe our government has checks and balances for a reason. However, let's not be naive. As a homeschooling parent I often see attempts by the government to abscond with my freedoms. Let's all pray hard and remember God is in control. But don't be lulled into a false sense of security. If you have any disbelief how Barak feels about Christianity go here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxwCUZ_8Aq0&NR=1

James Dobson and Focus on the Family should be so ashamed of themselves. They have become the mouthpiece for a political party, and they have embraced the spirit of fear and begun to spread fear and lies.

How can someone release this garbage and still claim to believe in the message of Christ?

As a Christian and a registered Republican, I am very
embarrassed to be associated with this.

Being a Canadian myself, I have to point out how easy it is to single out the American comments. The American media/propaganda machine is working very well - they still generally believe that they live in a free country and that '... the people' still have a say in politics through their vote.

I am often amazed at how strong the denial response is when the uncomfortable reality is even hinted at - especially those who live within the perceived shelter of the 'christian' culture of the 'Bible belt'.

As an outsider looking in, I can see much of what is described in the letter already taking place, or at least well on it's way. Maybe not the exact numbers, and maybe not quite as quickly takeing hold, but it's coming... and it WILL happen unless more wake up and stop denying the facts that the greatest persecution of the church is just around the corner.

I commend Focus on the Family for bringing the real issues to light - no apologies - none required. These are just the 'signs of the times'.

This letter is just one more example of Dobson's meglomania, as well as that of his supporters and associates. Dobson hails himself as an authority on all things from family, childrearing, psychology, and matters of faith. In reality, Dr. Dobson is not a doctor of anything. He has no doctrite of any kind. Furthermore, why should we take our advice from a control freak who in one of his books describes beating his dog with a belt because he did not like where the dog was sitting, and he wanted to remind the dog that he was master and king of the house? Why should we take advice on how to run our families and lives from a man who says peoploe should whack their kids with pieces of wood; even though a majority of those in the field of psychology and child development chronicle the various physical, psychological, and sexual harm that can develop from such actions. Or, what about James Dobson's stance on environmental issues. He would like us to ignore the environment and focus on the homosexuals (and how we can learn to hate them as much as he does).Imagine the frightening world if Dobson and the religious evangelical right were in control. That is enough to keep me awake this halloween night!

This is why I stopped going to church for 5 years. The church has no place making people feel guilty for how they decide to vote. The Evangelical church has made a deal with the devil in their entanglement with the Republican party, and it is wrong. I refuse to let anyone tell me how God wants me to vote, or scare me out of voting for Obama. I am an intelligent, thoughtful, critical thinking person of faith, and I feel totally confident in my decision.

James Dobson is a Pharisee!!!!!!!!!!!!

... And we take the tone of Christianity from focus on the family because????????? What happen to praying for our President?

Pretend that right now is 4 or 8 or 12 years ago, and
write a letter about all the things (left wing OR right
wing) that have happened in recent years.
I suspect that in your eyes of "back then",
the letter from today would sound equally improbable.
YES it is unlikely that all these things will happen.
YES, many Obama supporters would DELIGHT in all these
things happening.

Wow! I just got through reading the angry literature. Maybe it is fear mongering, but what were people saying when Hitler came to power? Most were duped, but the ones who warned were laughed at.

It seems to me that the anger is closely connected with people's loyalty being first to Obama and blind to anything negative being pointed out about their hero. Obama is unknown and prefers to keep it that way. So how do we predict how he will govern? He will say anything (like most politicians) to get elected. But look at all the things he doesn't say. He is aware of these negative things being said, but where does he assure us that they won't happen? Has he ever promised not to reinstate the "fairness doctrine" in which any contrary thought can be expressed -- and stations have to shut down because it gets too complicated to criticize the government? Has he promised not to harass home schoolers? Has he ever promised not to collect guns? Or reduce the military until we are a weak and impotent nation to be easily taken over by some new foreign star. Has he ever denied not wanting to be a one world leader? Has he ever denied not wanting to weaken the U.S. so as to be more acceptable to the other countries in the world? Has he ever denied that he would continue to kill innocent babies AFTER an abortion failed? Do you honestly think he shares God's opinions about things? If John the Baptist and Jeremiah were alive right now and preaching, what would they be saying -- and who would they be voting for? Personally, I am a Democrat and I like Obama. But I do not think he got his values from the Bible and I don't want his values to be the values of our nation. I would be happy to have him for a friend or neighbor. But I am afraid of what he and his friends who think like him can do to our country in 8 years. In America, the voter is king and those we hire via the ballot box are our servants -- public servants. As king, God will hold us accountable for the power of governance we have and the employees we hire. Increasingly, we have become a foolish people hung up on celebrities and silly passtimes. If we are serious about raising our children to be godly, we would want all the godly influences out there for a model. And we should vote accordingly.R

FOTF is nuts! What else can one say? Their fear-mongering, "left-behind" imagery (which they gleefully relish), is part of a fascist effort to link far-right Christian groups and powerful corporate entities with government, further eroding the middle class, stripping this nation of its essential freedoms, imposing a Taliban-like control on the American bedroom and completely redefining Jesus according to Dobson’s dogma. Let’s face it: Dobson hates gays, hates freedom, hates folks who see things differently – he’s been drinking the Reagan/Bush elixir of power and control for a long time, riding the conservative crest of the last 20 years. With “total victory” once in view (Bush’s second term), Dobson has seen his evangelical world collapse and his control erode. He’s now an angry, marginalized, man desperate to regain his “empire.” His letter, this doomsday scenario, is the stuff of cheap novels and b-movies – that anything like this should be published in the name of Jesus is so far over the top as to defy understanding. For Dobson and FOTF, much prayer – to be freed from the demons of fear and to regain a “salt of the earth/light of the world” (modest metaphors) sense of identity. Enough of worldly power; now is the time to reclaim the power of Jesus who came, not to be served, but to serve and to give his life that we might find ours.

It seems as though liberals can say or do anything and they are lauded by the media. When Christian conservatives say anything, there is an immediate attack. John McCain has sacrificed his whole life for our country. All Obama has done is go to school at an "elite" liberal institution on someone else's money. Everything he has done has been using others' money.Don't give me money from someone else that I have not earned. I am so tired of people in America that want a handout. What happened to the work ethic that the greatest generation demonstrated for us? A country that does not bless God will not be blessed by God.

Dear Concerned Minister of Oct. 24, thank you!!! You expressed what I was thinking. What is the problem with exploring possibilities ( many of which are already realities) in a hypothetical way using free speech and freedom of expression? I don't see fear and hatemonging here, except in the frantic response of those who are reacting to the "what-if" letter. Thank you for your level headed and kind, Christ-like response.

For those willing to support this letter or FOF and James Dobson, I would urge you to study the gospels and refamiliarize yourself with the values and actions of Christ - as well as the actions and values of the Jewish religous leaders who called for His crucifixtion. It continues to be important that we know who we are serving - Christ or the religous power brokers & money changers of our day. Here is a 1997 Public apology and appeal by Alexander-Moegerle, Co-Founder of Focus on the Family:

The Flint Hills Observer
August 1997

A Public Apology and Appeal
by Gil Alexander-Moegerle, Co-Founder of Focus on the Family (909) 592-6660, GMoegerle@AOL.COM

I'm the author of the new book "James Dobson's War on America," the first book to critique James Dobson's character, style and political agenda from an insider's perspective.

I was one of the co-founders of Focus on the Family.

In 1977, seven people signed their names to the legal documents that started Focus on the Family. We were its first Board of Directors. You will find my signature among the seven, along with my former friends Jim and Shirley Dobson, Mike Roberts, Mac McQuiston, Peb Jackson and Bobb Biehl.

I personally set up the three core operating divisions of Focus on the Family: Broadcast, Publications, and Mail Processing. I also started the Film and Video Division.

Speaking, then, as a co-founder of Focus on the Family, I have come to Colorado Springs to make two statements.

First:

I recently heard the Jewish philosopher Dennis Prager say, "Civility requires that responsible members of the various groups that make up a culture have the courage to apologize to the rest of society for bad people within their group."

I have come to issue just such an apology for certain actions and attitudes on the part of the Christian Right in general and James Dobson and Focus on the Family in particular:

First, I apologize to the women of America for the sexist attitudes all-too-often displayed by James Dobson and the organization I helped found.

I apologize to African Americans and other ethnic minorities who are concerned by the continuing vestiges of intolerance in the land and by the dangerous role James Dobson, a wealthy, powerful, white, heterosexual male, plays in promoting intolerance.

I apologize to lesbian and gay Americans who are demeaned and dehumanized on a regular basis by the false, irresponsible, and inflammatory rhetoric of James Dobson's anti-gay radio and print materials.

I apologize to Jewish Americans as well as Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, and atheist Americans who are also victims of the dangerous words and divisive political actions of James Dobson, who claims quite falsely that this is a "Christian nation" that should be "ruled" by fundamentalist Christians and their doctrines.

I apologize to the American media, specifically to radio, television and print reporters, who have been ridiculed and demonized by Dobson and his staff and guests.

I am ashamed of my former colleagues for their attacks on you and for their pattern of slamming the doors of reasonable access in your face. And I encourage you to bang those doors down, to investigate, and to report the truth about the threat James Dobson and other religious extremists pose to the American tradition of tolerance, inclusivity and the separation of church and state.

And I apologize to my fellow Christian Americans, many of whom have been misled by a man I once loved and trusted. I hope you will not make the same mistake I made in letting my personal loyalty to an old friend blind me to the unchristian and un-American words and actions of James Dobson and so many of his Focus on the Family guests.

I apologize to any American who has felt the sting of James Dobson and the Christian Right wagging their holier-than-thou fingers in your face, shrieking that because your views differ from theirs, you are ungodly, evil and unworthy of the rights of full citizenship.

Please don't let these extremists confuse you about the life and teachings of Jesus. He spoke in love. I regret that Jim and Focus have not.

Second:

I have come to Colorado Springs to call on James Dobson to step down as a political activist and return Focus on the Family to its original mission.

When we began Focus, in 1977, the seven founders had only two objectives: (1) To help Americans raise their children and (2) to help us maintain our marriages. Millions of Americans would say that James Dobson has made a tremendous contribution in those two areas. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said regarding his harmful foray into big-time politics.

I believe Dobson-style politics have been inept, simplistic, exclusionary, divisive and alarmingly sectarian. Mr. Dobson has shown little respect for our pluralistic system, for differing views or for the core skill of compromise and consensus building. That is un-American.

James Dobson's political style has been one of relentlessly demonizing his adversaries. And he has created the impression that the pathway to national moral reform leads through the legislative machinery of Washington. That is unchristian.

I ask Mr. Dobson to cancel his political radio series "Family News in Focus" and his political magazine "Citizen"

* to get out of the business of organizing and training grassroots political organizations around the country

* to break off his powerful alliance with lobbyist Gary Bauer and the Family Research Council

* to discontinue meeting with politicians in an effort to leverage his influence to shape public policy, and to pledge never again to devote a Focus on the Family radio broadcast to politics.

I call on James Dobson to return to the kinder gentler Focus on the Family we seven founded in 1977, to support America in those noble human endeavors of building strong marriages and raising strong children.

Thank you.

Cybereagle777, so glad you admit that your entire belief in the gay marriage nonsense spouted by FotFis based -- NOT on anything that Obama has actually said, but on YOUR OWN RANK SPECULATION that Obama has lied when he said he opposed gay marriage!

And you don't seem to understand that even if the US Supreme Court barred states from denying marriage recognition to gay couples, there would still be NO REQUIREMENT for CHURCHES (as opposed to state and local governments) to actually PERFORM gay marriages. In 1967 the US Supreme Court barred states from denying marriage rights to interracial couples. See Loving v. Virginia, 388 U.S. 1 (1967). More than 40 years later, no one has even suggested, let alone advocated for, REQUIRING CHURCHES to perform interracial marriages if they don't approve of them. FotF's assertion that such a result for gay marriage is not founded in ANY precedent.

The Pledge case shows a few misguided judges. When the entire US Senate unanimously rejects that interpretation, how is there any possibility that an anti-Pledge judge would even get nominated, let alone confirmed? And as to the pornoography issue, if you admit, as you did, that most liberals would be against such a proliferation of pornographic displays, why isn't it more likely that conservatives and liberals working together would thwart any such efforts by the pornography industry. FotF's smears on this account is just another way of calling liberals names.

Nevermind bashing Focus on the Family. They've been a great organization when they focus on the... ahem... family. This isn't a matter of respectfully differing in political opinions, this is a matter of blind fear-mongering by an organization that, I think, is supposed to be non-political. They give the rest of us Christians a bad name when they resort to disrespectful tactics like this letter.

Somebody said, "Prove that these things won't happen..."

You can't prove a negative; FOF has failed to prove that any of them WILL happen, or even that they COULD happen. This letter assumes an awful lot, as though on Jan. 21, 2009, the US will no longer be a Democratic Republic. Are all conservatives going to disappear at once the day after the inauguration? Is this a veiled prediction of the timing of the Second Coming?

I'm appalled by the lack of faith represented in these dire predictions. It is as though an Obama presidency would strike God powerless, or that the political voice of people of faith (it sounds as though the letter assumes that the only people of faith are conservative Republicans) will be snuffed out like a lit match in a hurricane.

And if a lack of faith in God and God's people isn't enough, there's also a lack of faith in the American Political Process. The feeling seems to be that our form of government only works when Republicans are elected, but if Democrats are elected, everything will fall apart.

This kind of thing does not represent a positive witness for Christ in our country; it merely underscores the fact that part of the church has been taken over by those who trust much more in themselves than they do in Jesus Christ.

I am absolutely appalled. Christians selling Obama pancakes was bad enough, but this? Do we really need this kind of fear mongering from a so-called representative of Christianity?

Eight years ago the preachers all supported Bush. Are we happy with the job he's done? He gave over $61 billion to faith-based organizations. Is that why we should support McCain?

This article is disgraceful. I would hope that no one contributes money to this organization. I never will again.

The letter blames young evangelicals who voted for Obama for giving him the margin to defeat McCain. But it doesn't explore why they voted for Obama. Like many young evangelicals, I'm not as afraid of a "far-left agenda" as I am of a president who identifies himself as an evangelical yet lacks competency and good character.

Having the right position isn't everything--leaders have to do a good job or the pendulum will swing violently the other way. Focus on the Family failed to hold George Bush and the Republican Party to a high standard of quality, and this letter fails to hold them responsible for an Obama landslide.

I guess James Dobson's forgotten about James 4:13-17.

After reading these comments, what leaves such a large impression on me is how divisive Christians are over this election. May we examine ourselves before God, make peace with our brothers and sisters, and continually be transformed into the likeness of Christ. Let's ask ourselves, "Would I be willing to wash the feet (literally) of someone who has differing political opinions than myself?"; "Would I be willing to wash the feet of Dr. Dobson?"; "Would I be willing to wash the feet of the person who wrote this letter?"; "Would I be willing to wash the feet of someone voting for Obama, or McCain?"... Let us remember that we are all here to bring forth the Kingdom of God, work for justice, walk humbly, live peaceably, and to love the Lord our God with all our heart, mind and soul, and to love our neighbor as ourselves.

Dobson + Politics = Antichrist

leads millions of Christians away
from the true heart of the Gospel!

For me, the question always has been: would James Dobson - or any of his followers and proponents - be willing to wash the feet of the people who disagree with them? Would they be willing to wash the feel of the Democratic Christians who would vote for Obama? Or maybe the tens of thousands of gay Christians whom they would gladly condemn?

The nonsense about four terrorist attacks is so hateful that it's hard to comment about it. Using that logic in reverse, how is it that the only external attack on US soil since Pearl Harbor occurred during a Republican administration?...

I would never say the kinds of things about James Dobson and his followers that they has already said - and written - about me. God help us all if this is the standard we are given to follow, supposedly in the name of God. There must be weeping in heaven over this.

did she really say "Obamic administration"? Could have sworn his name was Obama...Unbelievable.

I have to say it is SO ENCOURAGING to see how many fellow believers are opposed to this kind of fear mongering in these comments. So many of the Christians around me seem to fall into the fear and emotion of statements like this put out by groups like FOTF. These comments give me renewed hope for American Christians.

I understand what they're trying to do and say, but I agree with previous comments - a very biased opinion considering they are making McCain out to be the Saviour of America. Manipulating facts and making it sound like we're back in the 1950's with the Cold War and the Red Scare...just a little bit ridiculous.

I also love how the response of Christians is RUNNING AWAY. It becomes illegal so we'll all just quit and run away. Why don't we collectively stand up for what we believe? Maybe THAT would really change things instead of just acquiescing? PLUS what is with all the extreme homophobia? Putting your kids in a bubble where they just aren't 'exposed' to anything that will challenge what you're teaching them is not the answer. Then how will they respond when they actually get into the REAL WORLD? Kids have an amazing ability to be critical and to analyze and you are giving them NONE whatsoever. If kids can't properly respond to teachers' comments and criticisms then maybe the PARENTING is what's ineffective in the first place.

I also am extremely disappointed in the misquoting of the Lord's Prayer. TEMPTATION and TRIALS are not necessarily the same thing. Paul also said that our lives should be drastically different were it not for Christ. Americans are far too comfortable with backing down for their faith instead of standing up. With such a 'massive' Christian population you'd think that if they really cared they could make a difference - small, radical groups have done more.

My children were raised using the principles taught by Dr. James Dobson. His books, magazines and radio programs have blessed my life for thirty years. As a pastor, he has been a role model and encourager to me time and time again. Yet I don't think I'll ever be able to listen to him or support his ministry again. God have mercy on those who incite fear and encourage hate. God have mercy on those who come as "false prophets" misleading the people of God. God have mercy on our new president whomever he may be.

If Barack Obama does win today's election, I will pray for him faithfully trusting God to use this man's life to restore integrity and morality to our government and bring an end to the senseless killing of innocents in Iraq--an unjust war we started and continued under the cover of lies and deceit. If God's judgment befalls our nation for the election of Barack Obama as president, then surely we shall be judged for the suffering and death we have brought to millions by the Bush administration's policies over the past seven years.

A lot of people have said that James Dobson should stick to "what he is good at....teaching people how to raise children"; I beg to differ. I do not think Dobson is even qualified or worthy to tell us how to raise our children. He has done a terrible job of spreading lies to parents by telling them that it is godly and loving to hit your children in order to teach them. I was raised on this teaching, and based on the teachings of Dobson and the fundamentalist church I was hit with either my dad's hand, his belt, or a homemade wooden paddle....and I DID NOT turn out ok. Studies have clearly shown that hitting a child causes he child to lose trust in their parent, it can cause emotional and psychological harm, and since the buttocks is a sexual/erogenous zone of the body...hitting that area of the body repeatidly can cause a child's sexuality to become warped by causing a connection between hitting/spanking, pain, and sexuality. So, I will say, along with the many others who were harmed by these teachings, that Dobson is not even a worthwhile guidence for child-rearing...and I resent him and all those who propigated his teachings for spreading a lie that damaged many children like myself.

ps. Dobson is not even a qualified psychologist to my knowledge. I have heard that he doesn't even have a doctrite and yet he insists that people refr to him as Dr. Dobson

Focus on the Family is an example of extreme fundamentalism that almost makes me embarassed to be a Christian. Extreme religious beliefs of any persuasion will use fear tactics when they are desperate, and this "letter" is just one disgusting example. I am encouraged by the rejection of this "Christian" propaganda.

I anyone had any doubts whether or not Focus on the Family was still an organization devoted to the family, rather than a political machine; this letter ought to push them over the edge. James Dobson made some positive contributions to parenting and marriage early in his career; but, he is now a self-righteous powermonger. His initial threats to encourage listeners to not vote if John McCain wasn't elected president gives a good indicator of his misplaced view of his own influence and moral authority.

How sad.

Well, Obama had better roll up his sleeves and get busy if he's going to accomplish all of those things in four years ...

You don't represent my family. Focus on Fear is more like it.

I didn't realize that schaudenfreude was part of being a Christian. See 1 Corinthians 13 to see what it says about that. Brother. I haven't been able to stand Dobson since the 90s when he decided he was in charge of foreign policy based on his perception of how the world should look.

Doesn't anyone read Revelation anymore? Is it not the slightest bit curious that the U.S. isn't even mentioned in any way, shape or form in the End Times? While I believe that some if not MOST of these events COULD happen in a single presidential term, it will no doubt happen eventually. And it will take someTHING or someONE to bring us to our knees and take us out of the game... but the Good News is that God is still in control!

This is disgraceful and disgusting.

Does the writer of this letter purport to be a future-oriented prophet in the Biblical tradition? If so, then he/she must submit to the Biblical criterion, complete accuracy. If even one item does not come to pass, the writer will be shown to be not from God and must die. I believe the method is by stoning, but I could be wrong there.

Dr. Dobson has lost all moral credibility among young evangelicals. Dobson does not speak for me. He continues to foster a hybrid syncretistic Christian faith which fuses American Nationalism with conservative Christian belief. Thank God, that other products and resources that FOF puts out are still helpful tools for Christians dealing with family or marriage issues. FOF should stick to those issues instead of sending out their vision of an America as being the model for everyone to follow.

I am sad for any Christian who does not take time daily to study God's word, and pray daily. Going to church doesn't a Christian make. The culture dominates the input we have daily. The TV, the talk shows, the sitcoms, the game shows the "idol" shows, the "reality" shows, the news, and the internet, etc. all dominate our minds with information overload! So, I would suggest we seek the Kingdom of God by seeking the mind of Christ, found in the Word and by the Holy Spirit within a true believer. We are still responsible for what we do with such a great gift...the Holy Spirit. The Kingdon is within. Each must Do what God has given one to do. Even Presdent-Elect Obama is a work in progress and needs our prayers. I am truly sometimes baffled by the way God's Sovereign Will is being done. Just can't understand, but it is not for me to understand, just be faithful. I am in the cause for Life of the unborn because it is basic and biblical that we not kill the innocent, and those who can't speak for themselves. Obama is a product of the world and the culture of the past 40 years. So are my three sons, early 30's. God is in charge and for me, growing in love is my job with still a proper understanding of God's word. Too many so called Christians and ministers are not taking the time to understand what God has spoken in his Word from Genesis to Revelation. I am afraid that the Christian world is picking and choosing. Obama says he is 'born again'. I can only believe him, but I also struggle why he doesn't KNOW he is going to heaven. Surely he isn't trusting in his works, now?
And why doesn't he believe in hell, as unpleasant as that would be for anyone? There are so many people who have OWN OPINIONS that are not based on God's word. (It SEEMS logical to get rid of God's word and omit SIN from the vocabulary so we can all 'love' each other and live happily everafter, being politically correct!) Whatever one chooses, it truly is true that there are 3 fingers pointing back when one is accusing another of not being loving. Let's let God decide. Jesus was pretty harsh, not only to the pharacees (Jews), but also to his own disciples. Jesus rebukes and loves us all. Why did He die if we were to just go and sin more and more and ignore His words. How can we understand what he has said if one is not born again? Check out Nicodemus. What does one do when one is reconciled to our great God, ignore and go on sinning? Seems like I have been guilty, so I guess we all have. Let's start each day with humility. He wants to have a reconciled personal RELATIONSHIP by the grace and gift of the HOLY SPIRIT we received when we believed.

This letter is completely shameful. Even IF things would ever get to be at such a point, real Christians won't care. Real Christians will always be busy doing the things Jesus told us to do and will leave politics to the world and we will trust God puts leaders in power (Daniel 4:17, 25, 32).

How humbled will these people be if Obama actually does some GOOD? They should feel ashamed for speaking so evil of him when the Bible says to speak evil of no man (Titus 3:1-3) and we are to PRAY for kings and all in authority that we may live peaceable lives - not trust in politicians for it (1 Timothy 2:3).

I wonder how such a letter would look like if a liberal would write it after 8 years of Bush:
Freedoms have been severely cut down. America started a war without a reason having thousands of innocent Iraqis killed by bombings as the Military is just incapable of getting the whole under control, while also the young men and women of the country die for Exxon Mobile and all the others. Plus: Christianity, being rooted in Mesopotamia for 2000 years (that's 1500 more than in God's own country), is facing its wipeout, because the American gift of democracy brought to them led to the majority of the Muslims not protecting them, as Saddam did.

I'm sorry for being so extreme, but when I read crap like this letter, I get upset. Especialy with the background, that now the USA is less home of the free then ever, due to "homeland security" and control similar to former East Block Regimes. And about the Home of the brave thing: It doesn't mean you are coward when you stop something not working. Bt it is coward if not starting different attempts to get problems solved.

God bless America

Everyone keeps saying that we, as christians, need to show the love of Christ. What happened to the God who knocked over the moneylenders tables? The God who is just. In today's society much is made of the God who is love. And God is love, but he is also just. He is the God who will visit the transgression of the father to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Him. God is a God who cannot bear unrighteosness and as christians we are to be as like him as possible. Therefore we are not to condone any wrongful behaviour or sympathize with a leader who would allow behavior contrary to the law of God. We are to show the love of Christ, but there cannot be any tolorance of sin. Therefore electing a president who would allow blatent sin in our society, is working directly against God. The FOF letter is merely showing christians the possible end of electing a president who has promised to do those things. It is than our choice whether to elect him or not.

It amazes me to hear so many good-hearted Christians crying foul-play because a believer dared to speculate in the consequences of Obama's administration. Have you so quickly forgotten that the Clinton years were frought with one attack after another upon anything moral, especially focusing on Christianity. Conservative talk radio was continually in the crosshairs. Don't be disceived- any objective standard of right and wrong is the enemy and those who stand for such "nonsense" are the target.

If such a letter was written when Adolf Hilter came into power, I am sure that well-meaning Christians would have a similar response to those with the gull to utter such hateful, non-peaceful objections. Can you believe such a thing actually happened, and the response then was the same as today- stubborn refusal to believe that someone could have such ill intent. But in hind-sight, Hitler DID wall in the Jews; he DID construct concentration camps and imprison ministers and kill and torture countless Jews and other undesirables. Remember?!!!!

Don't you realize that scenarios painted by the author of this letter are all reasonable assumptions based upon many of the stated views of Obama. But the problem is not merely that man; He is the front-man-the salesmen. He represents a far more insidious force that is intent upon doing whatever is necessary to malign anyone who would stand on fixed principals of right and wrong, and do war against anyone who would stand against them. In this case it's James Dodson.

Based upon many of the comments of disdain for James Dobson, it would seem that their strategy of divide and conquer is working.

Parker Palmer, in Let Your Life Speak (pg. 88) wrote, "A third shadow common among leaders is “functional atheism,” the belief that ultimate responsibility for everything rests with us. This is the unconscious, unexamined conviction that if anything decent is going to happen here, we are the ones who must make it happen – a conviction held even by people who talk a good game about God."

FOTF's response speaks more to me about functional atheism than anything else. I think we are all so offended because they consider themselves a Christian organization. If it was just a random, conservative political organization, I wouldn't have as much of a problem with their stance...I would assume they are free to have their wacky opinions. But, the fact that they are Christians brings frustration. In that case, I don't think their stance is appropriate. I consider it inappropriate, it's something that doesn't consider the bigger story--of Christ's power and resurrection--that we find ourselves in.

Just my two cents...

This is precisely why I have not willingly stepped into a church in 20 years. I am completely repulsed by such philosophies.

Most is not everyone is missing the big picture. I read the FOTF letter and the future events listed may or may not happen. Whether Bush, McCain or Obama (or anyone else for that matter) as president, he is just a puppet for something more sinister. I'm not sure who really runs things, but things are not the way they appear (Google in Alex Jones End Game). What Dr. Dobson needs to realize is that our battle "is not against flesh and blood, but principalities and powers." What the American people need to realize is that there is more behind the scenes than what we realize. We are first and foremost "citizens of the Kingdom of God."

I am so embarrassed for the Christian community because of what FOTF is doing. Why did Christ minister to humanity? For love, to show the foolish fundamentalist religious leaders how they were all missing the point, to minister to the disparaged and the poor, to befriend the outcast and treat them as his equal, to model what we as humans should be...
FOTF has become this shameful voice supposedly speaking on behalf of all Christians or at the very least, telling us exactly what we should think or how we should vote

...and people wonder why I no longer attend church!

I do not agree with the approach that FOTF had in the "Letter to Obama from 2012, but take note that Chuck Norris had a similar letter to Obama "Now that you work for me..." and while Dobson gets a strong backlash, Norris does not. Is it because people fear or respect Norris' martial arts skills? Or do they perceive as Dobson being weak? What does this tell us? Hmmmm....

A question:

Is a *fictional* letter positing the *possible* freefall of American culture under the Obama White House any worse than the *factual* letter you could write about the *actual* freefall of American culture under the Bush White House?

Think about the kind of "Letter from 2004" FOTF could have written back in 2000, when I am sure Dr. Dobson and friends were thrilled to leave behind the debauchery and immortality of the philandering Democrat Bill Clinton. Such a letter would have claimed a veritable Christian utopia under the God-appointed President Bush. And look how wrong FOTF would have been.

Frankly, we will make the future happen or not happen. If we want a future such as this, we can have it. If we want something different, then we will.

We shall be known by our fruits.

On reading the hate letter from FOTF aganist Barack Obama I must say that I'm completely taken aback by the hate and the bigotry speaking from that vile pamphlet, as well as by the frequent comparisons drawn between Barack Obama and Hitler. That shows a fundamental lack of historical knowledge (at least knowledge that goes beyond Hollywood-WWII-Movies...), it ist tasteless and it insults the millions of Nazi-Victims.
I can understand, that right-wing-evangelical republicans are sore at the defeat of John McCain - but at the same time I ask them to consider what a mess the current President has left your nation in. Economical crisis, crumbling and deteriorating infrastructure, a war without end and with many victims, the highest budget deficit in the history of your country and much more... Even though he might be more liberal than "W", Obama is ery likely to be more competent.
As a German I hope for an renewal of the damaged relationships between the European Nations and the USA - and for a lot more common sense in foreign affairs!

I find this letter offensive and utterly ridiculous in its assumptions about President-Elect Obama. We have had eight miserable years of President George W. Bush and what letter are you writing about his failed administration? Is it always about abortions and gay rights? What about racism, sexism, militarism and other discriminatory practices that go on without a word from Dobson's organization. What about the unjust war in Iraq? Why not write a letter about how this will affect America for years to come? What about the conservative agenda the spews hatred and has people like Rush Limbaugh as their "preacher" on the radio? Focus on the Family should be ashamed of its self for publishing such a letter. The organizations focus has never been about all families in the first place.

As someone who has supported Focus on the Family financially in the past, I can honestly say I am appalled at this letter and embarrassed that it was issued by an organization that seeks to represent the teachings of Jesus Christ. I urge all Christians to once and for all denounce what this organization has become and pray God will restore a sense of sanity to the evangelical movement as we in reclaim our spiritual roots.

This letter is appalling. No wonder so many want nothing to do with Christianity. FOTF spends far too much time focusing on issues that will probably never effect them.

First of all, The United States is not, nor has it ever been "a Christian country". Our constitution speaks in generic terms of a God and a Creator. A quick perusal of The Apostles Creed and the Nicene Creed gives you very specific ideas of how the Church has defined God. Nowhere in US documents is The Holy Trinity mentioned or the name of Jesus invoked. Therefore, how exactly is this a "Christian" country. Thomas Jefferson was a deist who literally cut all the miracles, divinity of Christ, and the resurrection out of the Bible. He utterly rejected the Nicene Creed as well as the Council of Chalcedon’s definition of Jesus as “truly God and truly man”. Jefferson was particularly contemptuous of the Trinity, a “mere
Abra-cadabra” and “hocus-pocus phantasm” which he felt was distinguishable from paganism “only by being more unintelligible”. Focus on THAT!

Focusing on gay marriage is a useless point. A civil marriage simply is NOT a valid Christian Sacrament, but a civil contract. As a Christian, I simply do not care what the state thinks is or is not a valid marrage. The State will not force churches to perform marriages their faith can not bless. If a church is forced to pay taxes for refusing to perform ceremonies they deem incompatible with their faith, then just render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's. This just isn't going to happen anyhow!

Perhaps all the power shortages stem from 8 years of President Bush failing to work on an energy policy for this country.

Euthanasia and abortion have occurred in many places throughout antiquity where the church has existed. This didn't impede the Christian from living by example did it? If this unlikely scenario come to pass, perhaps Christians could care for the elderly that someone wants to "put down". Perhaps we could reduce abortions by forming homes for unwed mothers, helping to support those who see no way out,. Or, the failed tactic of creating further shame to a woman so that she dare not seek help could continue.

"Bush officials are jailed." Unfortunately, this won't happen! I can dream though.

"Homosexuals are given a bonus to enlist in the military." Does anyone else think this is ABSURD?

And frankly, I don't want prayer in Public School. I don't want The State teaching my kids how to pray. Frankly, after reading FOTF's absurd ramblings, I wouldn't want THEM teaching my children how to pray either.

FOTF has done nothing but drum up fear and hatred, making a joke out of the name of Christianity.

Absolutely disgusting. My heart breaks for those Christian Americans who will be so wrongly influenced by this hateful nonsense.

This letter and video makes me ashamed to call myself a Christian and put myself in the same category as these horrible people.

Wake up people, just because you dont want to admit they are right. Maybe Christian Americans are tired of being so tolerant, after all that isnt what we are called to be.

The saddest part of this is that OTHER Christian leaders are NOT refuting this nonsense. Dobson makes all Christians look bad.

It's funny that people say the things in this fictional letter will never happen...hmmmmmm...seems to me parts of this are already in the works - like reversing the law stating nurses and doctors could refuse to perform abortions due to religious standings. Just takes one slip to start the snowball rolling.

I am infuriated by how this narrow minded rant will impact missional Christians who are evangelizing rather than caught up in partisan politics. Let us remember "be WISE in the way you act towards outsiders, let your conversation be always filled with grace, seasoned with salt." It is time that we stop acting as if we are entitled to a Christian nation, and instead remember that it is our responsibility to be the salt and light. These fear tactics and hyperbolized false prophesies will not win a soul to Christ, but will make it harder for us to have meaningful dialogue with the world.

And the worst thing is that thousands of so called Christians will pray for these things to happen. How can the church be guided by such pathetic fear mongerers?

I find it funny that so many "Christians" are so appalled at this, but obviously not so appalled at all that has happened so far just in the last few months.
I will be looking back at this letter in the next few months and years, and will be interested to see what does come true-- some things are already in place.
I will do the same with Dick Morris's similar letter, both of which were composed with common sense and logic of what comes next.
You may not like the possible outcomes, people, but that just means you have to wake up to prevent them from coming true. Do not make enemies out of those with like minds who simply care about the things you care about, or if you do not, that you should care about as a Christian. Also for those talking about "faith in God," do not be so heavenly minded that you are no earthly good-- what happens here does matter. And faith in God is no excuse for apathy and/or inaction. God help us-- pray for mercy.

"Someone please make up a letter that would outline a scenario if James Dobson became president."

That has already been written (in 1935) but in book form: Sinclair Lewis's "It can't happen here."

Hi,

Enclosed is a Bible study of the 7 Bible clues which reveal the identity of the coming antichrist of the Great Tribulation and could Obama possibly be the future False Prophet of 666. Jesus is our bestest Friend and only Jesus and His Father gives Endless Love. Hoping for your comments and feedback. My phone is 863-651-4426.

Your eternal friend in Jesus,

Richard

WHAT ARE THE 7 BIBLE CLUES WHICH REVEAL THE IDENTITY OF 666??

Revelation 13:17b,18: "The mark of the beast {Or antichrist}is the *NAME* of the Beast or the number of *HIS NAME*. This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, *LET HIM* calculate the number of the Beast {Even in AD 96 when Revelation was written}, for it is a man's number {Or "Number of a MAN"}. *HIS* number is *666*." God has promised in the above inspired passage that any saint {Even in AD 96--which implies that the name was known in AD 96} with spiritual wisdom and insight may calculate the name of the beast which is a *MAN'S NAME* and adds up to 666.

In Thess 2:3 the Beast of the End-Times is called a "*MAN* of sin or lawlessness" or very SINFUL MAN and therefore the name of the Beast which adds up to 666 is a *MAN'S* name which is also confirmed in Rev 13:17b,18 above. Therefore, the NAME of the Beast which adds up to 666 is a sinful *MAN'S NAME* and could not be the name of a woman or a city, country, computer or Satan, etc..

Rev 13:16,17: "He {The False Prophet} forced everyone... to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead. No one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast {Nero Caesar??} or the number of his name {666}. The antichrist is called a "BEAST" 36 {6x6} times in Revelation and the BEAST is a much better name than antichrist since antichrist is mentioned 4 times in God's Word {I John 2:18, 22; 4:3; 2 John 1:7} and each time the word encompasses all who are against Christ. I JOHN 2:18: "Even now many antichrists have come." Surely all who receive the mark of the Beast are antichrists.

666 is referred to in the MASCULINE gender 28 times and the Beast is never referred to in the feminine or neuter gender. It is interesting to note that if the Beast of the end-times will be a religious organization, country or city it would be referred to in the female or neuter gender!!! The masculine pronouns used for the Beast are "HIS" 11 times: Rev 13:1, 5,16b,18b; 14:9,11; 17:7b; 19:2; 20:4(2X) & Daniel 7:26. "HE" 10 times: Rev 13:1;6a,7a,7; 17:8b; 17:11; 2 Thess 2:6; Daniel 7:24,25 & Daniel 9:27. "HIM" 5 times: Rev 13:4b; 19:20; 2 Thess 2:6; Daniel 7:25 & Daniel 9:27. "HIMSELF" 2 times in 2 Thess 2:4.

Actually there are **7 BIBLE CLUES** that show who the BEAST of the future 1260-day Tribulation will be. By an amazing coincidence all 7 Bible clues can be applied to Nero Caesar!!

{{1}} The BEAST will be a "MAN OF SIN" or very sinful MAN as per 2 Thess 2:3 above.

{{2}} The number of this sinful man's name is 666 as per Rev 13:16-18. The Bible was written by 40 divinely inspired Hebrews in Hebrew and Greek so then it is highly probable that this man's name adds up to 666 in Hebrew or Greek. Nero Caesar's name adds up to 666 in Hebrew which we will show later in this Bible study.

{{3}} This sinful man whose name adds up to 666 DIED BEFORE AD 96 when Revelation was written.{See Rev 17:8 below} We will show later why Revelation was written between Sept AD 95 and Sept AD 96. Nero Caesar lived from December 15th, AD 37 to June 9th AD 68.

{{4}} This sinful man who was alive and then died before AD 96 was FATALLY WOUNDED by a sword wound to his head. Nero Caesar committed suicide with a sword wound to his head on June 9th, AD 68. {See Rev 13:3 and Rev 13:14 below}

{{5}} This very sinful man who died before AD 96 was a KING in the Roman Empire as per Daniel 7:24. There were 11 Roman Kings or Caesars who died before AD 96 including the 6th Caesar who killed Paul and Peter in AD 66; and whose name adds up to 666 in Hebrew. Domitian Caesar was the 12th Caesar who was alive when Revelation was written in AD 96.

{{6}} The beast is also called an 8th KING who ruled before AD 96 as one of 7 KINGS crowned by the city on 7 hills. {See Rev 17:9-11} The identity of these 8 KINGS will be discussed later in this article.

{{7}} This very sinful ROMAN KING whose name adds up to 666 and who was fatally wounded by a sword before AD 96, will "COME UP FROM THE *ABYSS* or *HELL* as per Rev 11:7 & Rev 17:8. We know that the ABYSS is HELL by comparing 2 Peter 2:4 with Luke 8:30b,31. We can be sure that Nero Caesar is now in the Abyss or Hell since he killed Paul and Peter and thousands of Christians and sent Vespasian {the father of Titus and Domitian Caesar} to kill the Jews and destroy their Temple. The MAN OF SIN or Nero also killed his own mother and killed his pregnant wife by kicking her in the stomach. Inscriptions have been found in Ephesus in which Nero is called "Almighty God" and "Savior. In Revelation 13:8a we learn that all the unsaved inhabitants of the world will worship the Beast. Nero and Caligula "abandoned all reserve" in promoting emperor worship - they were the only two Roman Caesars who demanded divine honors while still alive. Nero claimed to be the sun-god Apollo. In 2 Thess 2:4 we read that the "Man of Sin" will proclaim that he is God!

Revelation 17:8: The beast, which you saw, once was {alive}, Now {in AD 96} is not {alive} and will come up out of the Abyss and go to his destruction. The inhabitants of the earth whose names have not been written in the book life.. .. will be astonished when they see the beast, because he once was {Before AD 96}, now {In AD 96} is not {Alive} and yet will come. Rev 13:14: He {The False Prophet} will order the inhabitants of the earth to set up an image in honor of the beast who was {FATALLY-Rev 13:3} wounded by the sword and yet lived." Rev 13:3: One of the heads of the beast seemed to have had a fatal wound. but the fatal wound had been HEALED!! The whole world was astonished and followed the beast.

When I was a missionary in Israel I studied the Hebrew language. One of the first things that you learn when you study the OT Ancient Hebrew language {Which is also the language of Israel today!} is that the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet ALSO represent 22 numbers! When you read Psalm 119 you will note that the 176 sentences are divided into 22 sections; each section with 8 sentences or verses praising the Word of God. These 22 sections are each headed by one of the letters in the hebrew alphabet in the exact same order as shown below. The ancient Hebrew language {Which is exactly the same as the modern Hebrew language} frequently used the letters of their alphabet to designate NUMBERS IN THE OT as follows:

ALEPH=1. BETH=2. GIMEL=3. DALET=4. HE=5. VAV=6. ZAYIN=7. CHETH=8. TETH=9. YODH=10. KAPH=20. LAMED=30. MEM=40. NUN=50. SAMEKH=60. AYIN=70. PE=80. TSADHE=90. KOPH=100. RESH=200. SHIN=300. TAV=400.

NOTE: Most vowel sounds excpt "O" {VAV} are not used as letters in Hebrew. These vowel sounds are designated by dots and dashes under their *PRECEDING* consonants. In Hebrew "N" is added on the end of all foreign names ending in "O". Therefore, the foreign name of Nero would be "NERON" in Hebrew. The name Nero Caesar would be pronounced Neron Kaysar in Hebrew. The "E" in Neron and the 2 "A" sounds in Kaysar {There is no "C" in Hebrew} are designated by dots and dashes under their preceding consonants and therefore are not letters in the 22 letter Hebrew alphabet, and so have no numerical value.

Neron in Hebrew would use 4 letters with numerical value: N-R-O-N and Kaysar in Hebrew would use 3 letters with numerical value: K-S-R. There would be a dot under the first N to show the "E" sound in NEron There would also be 2 dots under the "K" to show the "AY" sound in KAYsar and a dash under the "S" to show the "AH" sound in KaySAHr. The 4 letters with numerical value in NERON would be {SEE TABLE ABOVE} N = 50; R = RESH = 200; O = VAV = 6; and N = NUN = 50 and 50+20+6+50 equals 306. The 3 letters with numerical value in "KAYSAR would be K = KOPH = 100; S = SAMEKH = 60; and R = RESH =200 and 100+60+200 equals 360. And so the numerical value of Nero in Hebrew is 306 and the numerical value of Caesar in Hebrew is 360, and therefore the numerical value of Nero Caesar is 306+360 or exactly *666*!

There is a very interesting footnote in the revised Standard Version concerning the number 666 which states that some ancient manuscripts have the number **616** which *DOUBLY* confirms that Nero Caesar may be the Anti-Christ!! You will note that the Hebrew language adds an "N" to all foreign names eding in "O". Now "N" or "NUN" in Hebrew has a numerical value of **50**!! and so if you decided not to add the last "N" in NERON then Nero Caesar would add up to exactly **616** in Hebrew. I think you will admit that this is an absolutely amazing coincidence!!

Any honest Hebrew language scholar will confirm that the letters of Nero Caesar's name add up to 666 in the Hebrew language whose 22 letters are also 22 numbers as shown above. Since all of the prophecies concerning the antichrist are written in OT Hebrew {Like Daniel 7:8-25} or NT Koine Greek it would then seem logical that God would use one of these 2 Bible languages to identify the Name of the Beast whose letters add up to 666. One of the problems of doing this in NT Koine Greek is that the letters of their alphabet are not also numbers. And therefore you can only assign a numerical value of 22 to the 22nd letter, etc.. Using this formula you could not get any name to add up to over 250, let alone 666. You have the same problem with English and all other languages other than the Hebrew language!

NOTE: The 3 different Greek words used in Revelation 13:18b to arrive at the number 666 are the 3 different Greek words for 600 and 60 and 6 and not 6 + 6 + 6.

Will the 6th Caesar {Julius, Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius & the *6th* is NERO who ordered the execution of Paul & Peter in AD *66*} be the Beast who comes up from the Abyss {Or Hell-See Rev 11:7 & Rev 17:8} in the coming Great Tribulation??

Rev 1:8,9: "I, John, your brother and companion in the suffering and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in Jesus, was on the island of Patmos beacuse of the Word of God and the testimony of Jesus." We know that the island of Patmos was the site of a Roman prison in the first Century and that the Apostle John was suffering in this prison because of his religious beliefs. {As per Rev 1:8,9 above} The island of Patmos is about 30 miles from the port of Ephesus in Western Turkey. History tells us that the second huge Roman persecution of Christians {The first was NERO'S PERSECUTION OF AD 64-68} occurred in the last year of the reign of Domitian Caesar which would have been from September AD 95 to September AD 96. During the last year of his rule Domitian Caesar decreed that everyone in the Roman Empire must worship idols of former Roman Caesar's or else they would be killed or put in prison. Historical documents show us that the Apostle John lived to about AD 100 and therefore would have been alive during Domitian's evil decree of September AD 95 to September of AD 96. Since we can be sure that the Apostle John would never worship an idol of a Roman Caesar it is then highly probable that John was put in prison on Patmos Isle sometime during Domitian's evil decree from September AD 95 to September AD 96.

Rev 1:10,11: "On the Lord's Day I {John} was in the spirit and I heard a loud voice {Jesus} said, 'Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the 7 churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatria, Sardis, Philadelphis and Laodicea." The last 6 churches are all in Western Turkey within 77 miles of Ephesus. About 50 years earlier Paul had started churches in these 7 cities. Paul always had Jewish converts in the cities where he preached since he had the habit of teaching in Jewish synagogues on the Sabbath. It was then highly probable that all 7 of these chuches had Jewish believers who were very familiar with the Hebrew language and of course knew that the 22 letters of the Jewish alphabet are also 22 numbers and also remembered the first Roman persecution by Nero or the "MAN OF SIN" about 30 years earlier when Paul & Peter and thousands of Christians were martyred because of Nero Caesar. Nero also sent Vespasian, the father of Titus and Domitian; to kill the Jews and destroy their Temple. He also killed his mother and killed his pregnant wife by kicking her in the stomach. Christian writings in the early 2nd century AD show that many Christians at that time believed that Nero Caesar {Who adds up to 666 in Hebrew} would return as the BEAST of the End-Times.

Rev 13:18: "This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight {Even in AD 96}, let him {Even in AD 96} calculate the Beast, for it is a man's number. His {Nero Caesar's} number is 666!" And so the above Scripture absolutely guarantees that anyone with spiritual wisdom and insight could figure out who the BEAST of the End-Times would be even when Revelation was first given to the churches in AD 96, and that the number of his name adds up to 666. This would of course mean that the future BEAST must have been alive before AD 96 when this Scripture was given to the churches. Nero Caesar {Whose name adds up to 666 in Hebrew} certainly qualified since he lived from Dec 15th AD 37 to June 9th, AD 68 when he was fatally wounded by his own SWORD.

Revelation 17:8b: "Those whose names have not been written in the Book of Life will be astonished when they see the beast {666}, because he once was {Alive--AD 37-68} now in AD 96 is not {Alive}, and yet will come." {During the Great Tribulation} The Beast once was {Alive before AD 96} now is not {Alive in AD 96}, and will come out of the ABYSS {Or HELL} and go to his destruction." {On the last Day-See Rev 19:20b} The fact that the ABYSS is HELL is confirmed by comparing 2 Peter 2:4 with Luke 8:30b,31: 2 Peter 2:4: "God did not spare the angels when they sinned but sent them into HELL, putting them in gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment." Luke 8:30b,31: "Many demons {Or Hell's Angels} had gone into him {A demon-possessed man}. And they begged Jesus repeatedly not to order them into the ABYSS! {Because they had already been in Hell or the ABYSS before!!} Also in Luke 16:22-24 we read that there was a rich man already in HELL at the time of Jesus. Now we can be absolutely certain that an evil Roman king from the city on 7 hills; who was fatally wounded by a sword *BEFORE* Revelation was written in AD 96; and whose name adds up to 666 is presently in this ABYSS or HELL!! All historical documents agree that Nero Caesar {The 6th Caesar who ordered the execution of Paul & Peter in AD 66 and whose name adds up to 666 in Hebrew} was fatally wounded by his own SWORD on June 9th AD 68. In Revelation 13:14b we learn that the False Prophet of 666 will order the building of a statue of 666 "Who was {FATALLY-See Rev 13:3} wounded by the SWORD and yet lived!" {AGAIN} Nero Caesar {Whose name adds up to 666 in Hebrew} again qualifies for this inspired clue as to the identity of the BEAST. Nero's 4-year Roman persecution began when he blamed the Christians for the burning of Rome in July, AD 64; and ended when Nero was fatally wounded by his own SWORD on June 9th, AD 68.

Almost all conservative Bible theologians agree that the 4th Beast of Daniel 7:7,19 is the *ROMAN* Empire. In Daniel 7:20,21 we learn that a little horn who is also called a *KING* in Daniel 7:24 willcome from this *ROMAN* Empire. Daniel 7:24b,25-27: “A *KING* {From the *ROMAN* Empire--Nero Caesar??} will arise…. He will speak against the Most High and oppress his saints. The saints will be handed over to him for a Time, Times and ½ a Time.” “But the court will sit, and his {666 or the Roman King or the Beast or Nero Caesar-See Rev 19:20,21 and 2 Thess 2:8} power will be taken away and completelydestroyed forever. *THEN* the sovereignty, power and greatness of the kingdoms under the whole Heaven will be handed over to the saints, the people of the Most High. His Kingdom will be an everlasting Kingdom.”

Revelation 6:7,8: When the Lamb opened the 4th seal, I heard the voice of the 4th living creature say, "Come!" I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death {666 who will cause the death of millions} and Hades {The False Prophet who will cause millions to go to Hades by receiving the mark of 666} was following close behind him. THEY {Nero Caesar and the False Prophet} were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth. Daniel 7:8,20,24 says that an evil Roman King will conquer 3 of the 10 kingdoms {which will cover one fourth of the earth??}--Russia {Combined with former Soviet Union}, China and India cover one fourth of the earth and have over one fourth of the world's population! These 3 kingdoms may object and become jealous of 666 and his False Prophet ruling every country in the world. It is also possible that Israel will attack Iran's nuclear facilities which will precipitate World War III and Russia China and India will back Iran. The following 10 powerful nations have about 50% of the world's population and about 70 % of the world's military power and certainly have the military, political and "religious" power to control and rule all the nations of the world: #1. United States #2. Russia #3. China {1.3 Billion} #4. Great Britain #5. France #6. India {1.1 Billion} #7. Germany #8. Japan #9. Brazil #10. Egypt. Brazil borders every country in South America except Chile. Egypt is the university, intellectual and theological center of Islam. After appointing 10 kings who have never before ruled {See Rev 17:12,13} in these 10 nations 666 will then have "authority over every tribe, people, language and nation" as per Rev 13:7b, from his headquarters in Rome. 666 and his False prophet will then quickly gain complete control over the radio, tv, internet, newspaper, book and magazine medias. There are some who suggest that these 10 nations will all come from Europe and will not include Russia, China, India, Japan and the USA and will therefore only have about 5 % of the world's population and about 20% of the world's military power. Daniel 7:24 confirms that the 10 kings of a revived Roman Empire also mentioned in Rev 17:12 will help 666 rule the world. However to assume that the 10 kings of these 10 end-time kingdoms must come from Europe is a false assumption since a REVIVED Roman Empire could include the Major powers of the world of the future Great Tribulation. Revelation 13:4: Men worshipped the dragon {Satan}, and they also worshipped the beast {666 or Nero Caesar} and asked, "Who is like the beast? Who can make war against him?

The next 5 paragraphs are an interesting SPECULATION about what might happen at the beginning of the 1260-day Great Tribulation and who possibly may be the future False Prophet of 666. The False Prophet is referred to as "HE" {Masculine Gender} 9 times in Rev 13:11-16 & Rev 19:20. And "HE" was a very "DECEPTIVE" False Prophet as shown in Rev 13:11-16 & Rev 19:20.

And so Nero Caesar with the help of the armies of the False Prophet {Obama??} and other nations aligned with him will conquer 1/4 of the world {See Rev 6:8; 13:4b} and then 666 will appoint 10 kings over 10 kingdoms to rule the world who have never before ruled {see Rev 17:12-14} and who will then take orders from 666 and his False Prophet from their headquarters in the evil city on 7 HILLS or Rome.{See Rev 17:9} Revelation 6:6: "A quart of wheat for a day's wages!" This phrase can also be translated "A loaf of bread for a day's wages." This event will occur at the coming of the black horse rider {Rev 6:5} which will take place just before or at the beginning of the Great Tribulation. Because of the world's present economic crises the majority of people in the 40 poorest counties now have to pay a full day's wages for a loaf of bread as per Rev 6:6. And if the world experiences a world-wide depression this event could occur in over 100 countries. The world economic crises is rapidly accelarating. Many countries are far worse off than people in the USA during the Great Depression when there was 20 % unemployment. The world economic crises is rapidly accelarating. There are now 40 countries with unemployment rates of over 30 % and this should rapidly increase. And then the world will certainly be looking for an Economic Savior such as 666 and his very deceptive False Prophet. They will be looking for someone who promises CHANGE!! If the Great Tribulation would begin in the near future is there a well-known, powerful world leader that may qualify to be the deceptive False Prophet of 666 who will promise CHANGE you can believe in!! Will this powerful world leader try to bankrupt the USA which will in turn cause a worldwide depression and cause the price of a loaf of bread to cost a full day's wages??? The False Prophet is featured in Revelation 13:11-17; 16:13 19:20 & 20:10.
Do Obama's religious beliefs qualify him as a False Prophet?? Some insight into Obama's "Christianity" comes from an interview he gave in 2004 to Chicago Sun-Times religion editor Cathleen Falsani for her book, "The God Factor: Inside the Spiritual Lives of Public People." "I'm rooted in the Christian tradition," said Obama. He then adds something most Christians will see as universalism: "I believe there are many paths to the same place, and that is a belief that there is a higher power, a belief that we are connected as a people." Jesus says of Himself, "I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." That sounds exclusive, but Obama says it depends on how this verse is heard. According to Falsani, Obama thinks that "all people of faith -- Christians, Jews, Muslims, animists, everyone -- know the same God. "Obama doesn't believe he, or anyone else, will go to hell. But he's not sure he'll be going to heaven, either." Obama told a crowd at Hocking College that he believes the Sermon on the Mount JUSTIFIES his support for legal recognoition of same-sex unions?? Obama approves of same sex romantic and sexual relationships as do his former church, his pastor, and his former (So-called} Christian denomination?? The False Prophet should be hugely popular world wide. Interesting fact: Obama has greater worldwide popularity than any leader in modern history, according to a recent poll in Reader's Digest. Jesus is our Messiah and is called the LAMB 27 times in the book of Revelation. The False Prophet is someone who is like a LAMB according to Rev 13:11b. People from all over the world have already given Obama this interesting nickname "THE MESSIAH"!! The False Prophet will certainly teach that you can have your cake and eat it too, and that you will not go to hell if you receive the Mark of the Beast; allowing you to buy or sell everything. However, Rev 14:9-11; 19:20 & 20:10 confirm that he and all who receive the Mark of the Beast will be tormented day and night for ever and ever in Hell!
NOTE: There are many statues of the exact likeness of Nero Caesar including a 151 foot statue in the "Golden House" in Rome. The statue of Liberty {Without pedestal} is also exactly 151 feet high... hmmm. At the beginning of Great Tribulation the False Prophet of 666, Rev 13:14: "Will order the people of the earth to set up a statue in honor of the beast who was wounded {Fatally-Rev 13:3} by the SWORD and yet lived!" {Again} This staue of the Beast will be the "exact likeness" of Nero Caesar and could possibly be seen on World Wide TV so that people of all nations will be able to worship this statue as per Rev 13:15b. Obama's Air Force 1 plane just had a photo op with the Statue of Liberty....Hmmm.... The face of the Statue of Liberty could easily be changed to look like Nero Caesar within a week!
666 is called a BEAST 36 {6X6 times in Revelation and the False Prophet is also called a "BEAST" in Rev 13:11. Obama has nicknamed his presidential limousine "THE BEAST"!! In Revelation 13:11 the False Prophet is called the BEAST of the {PRESENT} EARTH. Whereas all true Christians are looking forward to a new heaaven and NEW EARTH as per 2 Peter 3:13: "We are looking forward to a new heaven and a NEW EARTH the home of righteousness." {See Rev 21:1} Obama is the all-time world's greatest champion of EARTH day and saving the PRESENT EARTH from Global Warming, Geeenhouse gasses, coal buring and carbon emissions and he may bankrupt the world in trying to achieve these goals.
In Daniel 9:27 and Matthew 24:15 666 is called an "ABOMINATION". In a recent Middle East tour Obama declared that the USA was "NOT a Christian nation!" I would tend to agree with Obama since with dominating majorities in the House, Senate and Supreme Court Obama is rapidly and surely turning this nation into an "OBAMANATION"!! WARNING: The possible identity of the future False Prophet of 666 is just an interesting SPECULATION.
" Revelation 7:9,14,4: "There before me was a great multitutude that no one could count, from EVERY nation, tribe, people and language {The Full number of Gentiles} standing before the throne in front of the Lamb....These are they who have come out of the Great Tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb."....."Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God." Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 {Evangelists} from the 12 tribes of Israel. It is possible that only Jews will be saved during the last months of the Great Tribulation after the Full number of Gentiles has come in.

"Babylon" is called a CITY 7 times in Revelation, chapter 18, and a SEAPORT in Rev 18:17-19. Peter was inspired to call Rome "Babylon" in I Peter 5:13. Rome is a CITY and a SEAPORT built on 7 HILLS! Babylon and Jerusalem are not seaports and are not built on 7 hills!

Rev 13:14-17: The False Prophet deceived the inhabitants of the earth. He ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was {FATALLY-Rev 13:3} wounded by the sword and yet lived. He was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast {666}, so that it could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed. He also forced everyone to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast {NERO CAESAR} or the number of his name {666}. And God will supply all the needs of His faithful and corageous Tribulation saints just as He miraculously supplied all the needs of the Israelites for 40 years in the wilderness. {See Matt 6:31-34}

Rev 13:5-10: The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise his authority for 42 {30-day} months {Or 1260 days or time, times and 1/2 a time-See Dan 7:25 & Dan 12:1,2,6b,7b}..... He was given power to make war against the saints and to conquer them. And he was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation. All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast--all whose names have not been written in the book of life belonging to the Lamb.... This call for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of the saints. Matt 24:9-12...Matt 24:29-31: Jesus says, "Then {During the 42-month Great Tribulation} you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by ALL nations because of Me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved... Immediately after the distress of those {1260} days 'the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light and the stars will fall from the sky.' At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the **CLOUDS**{See Rev 1:7; Mark 14:62 & I Thess 4:16,17} of the sky, with power and great glory. And He will send His angels with a loud **TRUMPET**{See Rev 10:7; 11:15-18; I Cor 15:51,52; I Thess 4:16} call, and they will gather His elect from the 4 winds, from one end of the heavens to the other." {Mark 13:27 adds, "From the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens."

There will be 2 Comings of Jesus on the same Last Day: The first above was *FOR* His saints and then after the Marraige Feast of the Lamb Jesus will come *WITH* His saints as per Rev 19:6-8; 11,14,19-21: "Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns, Let us rejoice and be glad and give Him glory! For the Wedding of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready, fine linen, bright and clean was given her to wear.... I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose Rider is called Faithful and True... The armies of Heaven were following Him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean... Then I saw a beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to make war against the Rider on the horse and His army {See Rev 17:14 & Jude 14,15}. But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed the miraculous signs and his behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshipped his image. The two of them were thrown ALIVE into the fiery lake of burning sulfur {See 2 Thess 2:8}. The rest of them were killed by the sword that came out of the mouth of the Rider on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh.

WILL THE CITY ON 7 HILLS OR ROME BE THE END-TIME BABYLON?? AND WHO
ARE THE 7 KINGS FROM THE CITY BUILT ON 7 HILLS??

Most Bible scholars believe that the book of First Peter was written shortly after the beginning of Nero’s Roman persecution of Christians in AD 64 because of I Peter 4:12,13 & 5:8,9. We know that Peter and his wife were living in Rome at this time. Peter was inspired to write in I Peter 5:13: “She {Peter’s wife} who is in *BABYLON* {Nickname for *ROME*!} sends you her greetings, and so does my son Mark.” Apparently some Christians including Peter were inspired to call ROME “BABYLON” after Nero’s terrible persecution of Christians starting in AD 64. This is very interesting since the evil city of the End-Times is called “BABYLON” 6 times in Revelation 14:8; 16:19; 17:5; 18:2,10,21.

Ancient Babylon Had destroyed God's Holy Temple and God's Holy City, Jerusalem; and killed, exiled and persecuted God's people for 70 years. Actually all encyclopedias agree that Babylon was completely evacuated in 275 BC and completely destroyed by 141 BC. The Wikipedia encyclopedia states, "By 141 BC, when the Parthian Empire took over the region, Babylon was in complete desolation and obscurity." The only question that remains is: Was Babylon rebuilt so that there could be people living in Babylon around AD 65 when Peter wrote 1 Peter 5:13??? Which leads us to the promises of God in Jeremiah 50:1-3,13: This is the word the Lord spoke through Jeremiah concerning Babylon.."Babylon will be captured... A nation from the north will attack her and lay waste her land. No one will live in it; both men and animals will flee away!" Jeremiah 52:52:61-64: When you get to Babylon, see that you read all these words aloud. Then say, "O Lord, you have said you will destroy this place, so that neither man nor animal will live in it; IT WILL BE DESOLATE FOREVER When you finish readiing this scroll, tie a stone to it and throw it into the Euphrates. Then say, "So will Babylon SINK TO RISE NO MORE because of the disaster I will bring upon her." And God ALWAYS keeps His promises. And God kept His promise for about 2284 years; since Babylon is still a pile of rubble to this very day, and will remain that way until the
Last Day of the Planet Earth; for God always keeps His promises.

“Babylon” {Nicknamed Rome by Peter} is a “GREAT SEAPORT” in Rev18:17-19; JUST LIKE ROME and UNLIKE Babylon whose ruins are NOW 4 miles from the very shallow Euphrates River; or Jerusalem which is2000 to 3000 feet above sea level and 35 miles from the Mediterranean Sea. Babylon is also completely FLAT whereas the End-Time "Babylon" will be a city built on 7 Hills JUST LIKE ROME!! Rev 17:18: “The woman you saw {Rev 17:3--Who sits with the Beast with 7 heads} is the great *CITY* {Rome--nicknamed Babylon in I Peter 5:13--See Rev 17:5a} that will rule over the kings of the earth.” {During the Great Tribulation}

Rev 17:9-11: “This calls for a mind with wisdom. The 7 heads are 7 hills on which the woman {Or city of Rome} sits.” Rome is a city built on 7 HILLS!! They {The 7 Heads} are also 7 KINGS {From the city on 7 hills or Rome}. Five {Of these 7 KINGS} have fallen {Or died before AD 96}, one {the 6th KING} *IS* {Or reigning when Revelation was written in AD 96}, the other {or 7th KING} has not yet come, but when he {The 7th KING} does come, he must remain for for a little while. {Possibly the False Prophet of 666 {Or Black Horse Rider} who will be anointed by Satan just before the coming of the 8th KING {Or Pale Horse Rider} who ruled before as one of the 7 Kings} The beast {Nero Caesar who once was {Alive from
Dec 15, AD 37 to June 9, AD 68}, and NOW {In AD 96} is not {Alive} is an 8th KING. He belongs to the 7 {KINGS}, because He once was {Alive-AD 37-68} NOW {In AD 96} is not {Alive}, and yet will come {1260 days before the Last Day}."

WHO ARE OR WILL BE THE 8 KINGS OF REV 17:10,11??

ROME APPOINTED THE JEWISH KINGS AFTER THEY CONQUERED ISRAEL IN 63 BC AND THE 7 KINGS OF REV 13:1B all had "blasphemous names" so we can assume that they were evil kings who had killed or persecuted Jesus and His followers. And so the first 3 EVIL KINGS {Who are all called KINGS in God's Word{See Matt 2:1; Mark 6:25,26 & Acts 12:1} were all Israeli KINGS {who had killed or persecuted Jesus and His followers} appointed by the evil city on 7 hills or Rome.

AND SO THE 8 KINGS WERE OR WILL BE:

** {#1} ** Herod the Great who tried to kill the baby Jesus: Rev 12:3-5: "Another sign appeared in Heaven : An enormous red DRAGON {Or Satan-See Rev 12:9} with 7 heads {Or 7 KINGS-See Rev 17:10a}... and 7 crowns on his {7} heads {Satan crowns the 7 kings whereas 666 crowns the 10 horns}. The DRAGON {Or Satan} stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that he might devour her Child the moment he was born {Thru his first evil king or Herod the Great as per Matt 2:13b,16!!} She gave birth to a Son {Jesus} a male Child, who will rule the nations with an iron scepter!!"

**{#2}** Herod who killed John the Baptist and ridiculed and tortured Jesus {See Matt 14:1-12; Luke 23:7-11}

**{#3}** Herod Antipas who killed the Apostle James and tried to kill Peter. {See Acts 12:1-5,19-23}

**{#4}** Nero Caesar who will come again as the 8th KING who will be the BEAST of the End-Times.

**{#5}** Titus Caesar who killed thousands of Christians when he destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple in AD 70. Titus is also mentioned as a "Prince" in Daniel 9:26. Titus Caesar was the oldest son of Vespasian Caesar who was Caesar from Dec AD 69 to AD 79; and therefore heir and Crown *PRINCE* to the throne in Rome and was Caesar from AD 79 to AD 81.

**{#6**}** Domitian Caesar the 6th KING {"NOW IS"} was ruling in AD 96, and decreed in the last year of his reign {Sept AD 95 to Sept AD 96} that everyone must worship former Roman Caesars {Like Nero} or be killed and put in prison.{Like the Apostle John who was living in Ephesus at that time.}

**{#7}** Possibly the False Prophet of 666 who will be crowned the 7th evil King of Rome by Satan shortly before the coming of the:

**{8th}** KING or Nero Caesar {The End-Time Beast or antichrist}; who ruled before as one of the **7 KINGS** The 4TH & 8TH KING will come up up from the Abyss or Hell exactly 1260 days before the last Day to rule from the evil city on 7 hills or Rome.

Rev 17:6: “The woman {ROME} will be drunk with the blood of the saints, the blood of those who bear testimony to Jesus.” While in Rev 13:7 we learn that the BEAST will be given “power to make war against the saints and to conquer them.” And in Rev 13:15b we read that 666 will “cause all who refuse to worship his statue to be killed.” We must therefore conclude that the evil city “on 7 hills” or Rome will be the HEADQUARTERS of 666 during the Great Tribulation.

The BEAST will very quickly conquer 1/4th of the world with many miracles {See Rev 6:8; 13:4} and will then appoint 10 Kings who have never before ruled over the 10 most powerful nations of the world {See Rev 17:12-14,17}. The following 10 powerful nations have about 50% of the world’s population and ABOUT 70% OF THE WORLD'S MILITARY POWER and certainly have the military, political and “religious” power to control and rule all the nations of the world: #1. United States #2. Russia #3. China {1.3 Billion} #4. Great Britain #5. France #6. India {1.1 Billion} #7. Germany #8. Japan #9. Brazil #10. Egypt. Brazil borders every nation in South America except for Chile. Egypt is the university, intellectual and theological center of Islam. And then 666 will have “authority over every tribe, people, language and nation” as per Rev 13:7b, from his headquarters in the evil city built on 7 hills or Rome.

Hi,
Beautiful write! How soon will you update your blog? I'm interested in reading some more information on this issue.

666 is also identified with a MASCULINE pronoun 28 times in God's Word which we will show later.

{{4}} This sinful man who was alive and then died before AD 96 was FATALLY WOUNDED by a sword wound to his head. Nero Caesar committed suicide with a sword wound to his head on June 9th, AD 68. {See Rev 13:3 and Rev 13:14 below}

ALEPH=1. BETH=2. GIMEL=3. DALET=4. HE=5. VAV=6. ZAYIN=7. CHETH=8. TETH=9. YODH=10. KAPH=20. LAMED=30. MEM=40. NUN=50. SAMEKH=60. AYIN=70. PE=80. TSADHE=90. KOPH=100. RESH=200. SHIN=300. TAV=400.

In Daniel 7:20,21 we learn that a little horn who is also called a *KING* in Daniel 7:24 will come from this *ROMAN* Empire.

It is interesting to note that Obama is presently trying to control all of these medias in the USA which may be the world's most free country!!

Interesting fact: Obama has greater worldwide popularity than any leader in modern history according to a recent poll in Reader's Digest and was also awarded the Nobel Peace Prize even though he did nothing to deserve it. Jesus is our Messiah and the Prince of Peace and is called the LAMB 27 times in the book of Revelation.
Whereas all true Christians are looking forward to a new heaven and NEW EARTH as per 2 Peter 3:13: "We are looking forward to a new heaven and a NEW EARTH the home of righteousness." {See Rev 21:1} Obama is the all-time world's greatest champion of EARTH day and saving the PRESENT EARTH from Global Warming, Geeenhouse gasses, coal burning and carbon emissions and he may bankrupt the world in trying to achieve these goals.

Rev 13:14-17: The False Prophet deceived the inhabitants of the earth. He ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was {FATALLY-Rev 13:3} wounded by the sword and yet lived. He was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast {666}, so that it could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed. He also forced everyone to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast {NERO CAESAR} or the number of his name {666}. And God will supply all the needs of His faithful and corageous Tribulation saints just as He miraculously supplied all the needs of the Israelites for 40 years in the wilderness. {See Matt 6:31-34}

And God kept His promise for about 2284 years; since Babylon is still a pile of rubble to this very day, and will remain that way until the Last Day of the Planet Earth; for God always keeps His promises. The ruins of ancient Babylon are a tourist attraction in Iraq and the Iraqi government will not allow any of the ruins to be removed or built upon. If you check out the latest Iraqi Tour Guides you will notice the folowing statement: "Today, Babylon lies COMPLETELY in ruins. A large and splendidly carved stone lion is all that remains of its former glories."

“Babylon” {Nicknamed Rome by Peter} is a “GREAT SEAPORT” in Rev18:17-19; JUST LIKE ROME and UNLIKE Babylon whose ruins are NOW 4 miles from the very shallow Euphrates River; or Jerusalem which is 2000 to 3000 feet above sea level and 35 miles from the Mediterranean Sea. Babylon is also completely FLAT whereas the End-Time "Babylon" will be a city built on 7 Hills JUST LIKE ROME!! Rev 17:18: “The woman you saw {Rev 17:3--Who sits with the Beast with 7 heads} is the great *CITY* {Rome--nicknamed Babylon in I Peter 5:13--See Rev 17:5a} that will rule over the kings of the earth.” {During the Great Tribulation}

**{#2}** Herod who killed John the Baptist and ridiculed and tortured Jesus {See Matt 14:1-12; Luke 23:7-11}

**{#3}** Herod Antipas who killed the Apostle James and tried to kill Peter. {See Acts 12:1-5,19-23}

**{#6**}** Domitian Caesar the 6th KING {"NOW IS"} was ruling in AD 96, and decreed in the last year of his reign {Sept AD 95 to Sept AD 96} that everyone must worship former Roman Caesars {Like Nero} or be killed and put in prison.{Like the Apostle John who was living in Ephesus at that time.}

**{#7}** Possibly the False Prophet of 666 who will be crowned the 7th evil King of Rome by Satan shortly before the coming of 666.
