Palin: 'Thank the Lord' and 'God has so richly blessed this land'

Sarah Palin is ramping up God talk on the campaign trail.

The Associated Press reports that yesterday, she said, "God has so richly blessed this land, not just with the oil and the gas, but with wind and the hydro, the geothermal and the biomass.

And today, The Wall Street Journal reports that Palin said the campaign had seen some good news in recent polls. " 'We even saw today, thank the Lord, we saw some movement,' she said, looking upwards and making a fist when she said "thank the Lord."

Comments

Fist like "let's roll!"
Fist like "arrrgh!"
Or
Fist like an Obama "fist bump"?

Adorning yourself with the Name of the Lord has little to do with lived faith in Christ.

I feel that any candidate has the right to express their faith. How will we know who shares our faith and beliefs if they don't let us know through their words and actions? God Bless you Sarah Palin!

How can somebody claiming to be a " born again " Christian speak so many lies and is so full of hate???

"Adorning yourself with the Name of the Lord has little to do with lived faith in Christ."

That's a rather nasty thing to say. Of course anyone who wants to can fake faith, but anyone actually living in faith SHOULD adorn themselves with his name.

Why is expressing your faith in times of spiritual warfare wrong.
Its about time we started acknowledging God and thanking him publicly.
Christ first, then politics.

Absolva Mae what are you talking about? Sarah Palin is giving all the glory to God, what is wrong that?
Barack Obama on the other hand questions "Which passages of Scripture should guide our public policy? Should we go with Leviticus, which suggests slavery is okay and eating shellfish is an abomination? Or we could go with Deuteronomy which suggests stoning your child if he strays from the faith. He mischaracterizes and marginalizes Scripture in his comments. If he actually read the Bible, he would see that no where in it does it state slavery is okay. Nor does the Bible suggest stoning your child should he stray from the faith.
Also, it is important to note that Barack Obama's so called faith has been grounded on Reverand Wright's teachings which curse America and white people!

Has Sarah Palin ever blushed? Can she?

Sarah is a Christian based on her testimony; Obama is not based on his testimony. A Christian recognizes the fruits of the spirit by actions, and words. If God chooses, He, can by His great mercy, give us McCain and Palin even though we don't deserve to have good leadership this time, but He can also give us Obama as a means to discipline the U.S. and punish us for our sins, collectively, as a nation. Let's pray He gives us mercy.
Pray and vote...McCain/Palin.

I'm getting the feelng CT is Republican. CB

I have no problem with candidates using "God talk" sincerely. Great political issues are almost always moral, spiritual, and philosophical issues. So as long as it isn't used as a cynical attempt to claim the mantle of Christian faith for one party, I have no problem.

The "thank the Lord" may just be a figure of speech; if not, though, it implies that improvement in McCain-Palin's polling is God's work, ergo that they are God's preferred ticket. This, I have a problem with. Is God a closet Republican?

Does anyone besides me think that candidates ought to practice the 10 commandments. How about the one that says something about "bearing false witness?"

Sarah Palin knows how to feed the itching ears of many Christians. But, she will not fool this one. You all are Hypocrites. If Barack and his wife had a 16 year old daughter having a child out of wedlock you all would have gave them hell...Secondly, Sarah and Todd's educational background is a disgrace compared to Baracks & Michelle Obama.

You all will not call it, but I will, it's a double standard...double standard..I am a Christian and I will vote for Barack Obama. I believe God is going to use him mightly to change our country for the better...E

"Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain." (activity in the name of God without making use of His name in order to adorn oneself with it.)

The use of such statements by any candidate in combination the few examples of attack ads which have made it to the news here, makes life difficult for Christians elsewhere. Non Christians here ask "what is that all about? It’s an obscenity!” The combination does not fit well with the way in which another culture (Australian) sees them.

Christianity has got itself entangled in Imperial politics before; it’s not a good sight.

You are a Christian and voting for Obama? The differece with Obama is that he said and I quote, "If my daughters made a mistake I wouln't want them punished with a baby". God didn't plan babies to be a punishment, Obama! Apparently, you don't know about his policies on abortion. How he wants to pass the Freedom of Choice Act which would allow abortions at any time for any reason.Don't believe me, look it up! He went to a church for 20 years who's pastor hates America and white people. Maybe you need to read your Bible and review God's principles and compare them with your beloved Obama.

We are hypocrites Howard? Maybe you should get the plank out of you own eye before judging others. Have you even researched Obama's policies on abortion? Have you checked out the so called "Christian" church Obama went to for 20 years? He claimed not to know that the pastor was a white hater, and America hater. Until it was brought up in the press, his pastor was his mentor and someone he looked up to. Once everyone started seeing the truth, he denounced his pastor and left his church. Would he still be going there now hearing the anti white, anti American sermons if the press didn't bring it up?

Chris, Obama has already said that if his teenage daughter had an unexpected pregnancy, he would encourage her to abort it so she wasn't saddled with such a problem (my paraphrase, but his words were chillingly similar). Is that really the direction you think this country should go in? God cares very much for the unborn; Obama and his ilk refuse to acknowledge their value, however, and are willing to let precious preborn childrens' lives be sacrificed for almost any reason. I fail to see how having a leader with that worldview will change our country for the better. "There is a way which seems right to a man, but the end thereof is death." Prov. 14:12

God HAS blessed this country with many resources; what is there to object to or get offended about when someone states the obvious? Why shouldn't a candidate have the same right to express gratitude to God that the rest of us do? Or is it that we aren't really grateful at all, and we proudly refuse to acknowledge God's hand of blessing on us, and can only see the bad things that exist in America (which certainly are there; we're a nation of sinners, after all)? I am truly puzzled by the virulent and cynical reaction to Palin's comments and expressions of faith.

How is it some who claims to be Christian justify voting for a man who clearly is against Gods most basic fundamental revealed will as to the sanctity of life? There are 2 great commands. Love HIM first and treat your neighbors as yourself, for they too are made in Gods image. A candidate who voted for abortion under ANY and ALL circumstances, including the detestable practice of late term, partial birth abortion, practices infanticide! A process so gross that even some of the most liberal pagans wouldnt practice! Killing babies that are born ALIVE! Claiming that the knowledge of when life begins is "a little above his pay grade" is no more then a convenient cop out not to offend his audience, just as his support for the denegration of the institution of marriage that God has ordained, by sending a "letter of congratulations" to head of the lesbian, bisexual, gay, transsexuals movement in California for their right to wed. I thought Christians were to be "salt and light"???

Say what you want about Palin, she stands for her faith and as a Christian, and it seems to inform her conscience as to practice and policy and that should be commendable. God is not a Republican or Democrat, nor is He on neither parties "side". But as Christians we should vote based upon which person or persons based upon their record are most likely to have policy consistent with Gods role for government, which is that it would promote good and prohibit/punish evil (not a persons education, eloquence, race, political party, gender or even religious affiliation).
But woe to those who call good evil, and evil good.

We are hypocrites Chris? Maybe you should get the plank out of you own eye before judging others. Have you even researched Obama's policies on abortion? Palin's God isn't the God of the Bible, no matter how loudly she invokes him. She seems to think that God is some sort of cosmic Super-Republican who shares all of her political and social prejudices. When are Christians as a community going to smell the rat here? If she isn't sincere, then this is just cynical political manipulation. If she is sincere, then she is dangerous because she has created a god in her own image, and she doesn't have the humility and the self-awareness to realize it. The Bible has plenty to say about God's attitude towards that kind of sin! Lots of folks like to use the word "awesome" to describe God. God is not awesome because he tells us we are wonderful, gives us what we want, and confirms our views of the world. He is awesome because he is so beyond our petty and self-serving ideas about him.

Stefan... You are a confused Christian! When has Palin ever said these things? She is a lot more sincere and her principles are more in line with God's than Obama's are.

Again. We are truly hypocrites to pick and choose our sins! Whose worthy to commit one and who is not. I am TOTALLY pro-life in every way, but it doesn't stop there for me. I want to treat people right all through life!! Else my being a pro-lifer is in vain! We need to stop using the bible at our convenience and just talk about the Good News daily! There are plenty Rev Wright's out there, black and white! I am an African-American who sat under a Pastor who said something that just shocked me from the pulpit. I was at this church a year! I loved it! Great people to include the Pastor. But when he said that comment (a racial one) and other innuendos. I left! My eyes were open! A nice man, but he came from an era where the scars are obviously still deep!! Yes, he was an African-American. Still, there are many Rev Jeremiah Wright's out there and they are black, white, hispanic, etc etc. I am so sick of racial division that it scares me! I want unity Lord!! I want unity! Diversity is a great asset to us as a nation! God made us different for a reason! God help us all!

If people want to play the guilt by association game; well then! Isn't Palin running alongside John McCain? The same McCain who was shot down while bombing villages in Cambodia? And didn't McCain happily accept the endorsement of George W. Bush, who is widely regarded as a war criminal for starting two wars of aggression? Something is grievously wrong here.

Say all you want about Obama. But seriously you really believe Sarah Palin is a CHRISTIAN? Please give me a break! She lies, is delusional, slanders and is a big troublemaker and all in God's name. That's not the God I know and I know God will not be mocked (and I am not talking about Obama)God help this country if she enters into office.
Proverbs 10:10
A person who winks causes trouble and a babbling fool will be brought down.

to bjames
I have heard that tactic before. a christian are 'quick to accuse' others & point to sin - which they are quick to judge. when their sins are exposed they use that verse 'ye not judge me' so they are not insulted. mr bjames, who is going to expose your sin if you are committing one. in order for you to get away with sin, you will use that verse to justify it. Yes, christian do not practice christianity or they do not have 'christ-like' behavior only HYPOCRISY. I have seen plenty of christian who blows their big mouth in order to look good for jesus, but they themselves do not practice what they preach. if you say that you are being judge then practice what you preach so no one will JUDGE YOU. HYPOCRITE!!

America blessed? america supported dictators in order to protect its interest in the name of freedom & democracy. Shah of Iran, Saddam hussein, Ferdinand Marcos & manuel noriega were the dictators america supported while they (dictators) killed thousands of their own people in order to remain in power. and the president from 2000-08 who profess to be a christian do not observe the commandments of god.
6th commandment - thou shall not kill
7th commandment - thou shall not steal
9th commandment - thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor

I question that 'god bless america' when 'it looks down' on others to assert its superpower status. pastors & televangelist support the sins of those who promote the arrogant, hypocritical policies of bush in order to say 'god bless america.'
