Huckabee: Palin 'looks better in stilettos than I do'

Mike Huckabee said that he was surprised that John McCain chose Sarah Palin as his running mate because he believes the only difference they have is that "she looks better in stilettos than I do."

In an article posted by The New Yorker, Huckabee initially responded to a question about Sarah Palin with, "She, uh, was an appropriate choice, because she put John McCain back in the game."

Later, he tells Lauren Collins:

"It was funny that all through the primary - I mean literally up until McCain got enough delegates to win - people said, ?You know, Huckabee's really running for Vice-President. Gee, Huckabee would be a great Vice-President.' And from that day forward, when I actually was no longer running for President, nobody ever said, ?Gee, Huckabee would be a great Vice-President.' "

"I was scratching my head, saying, ?Hey, wait a minute. She's wonderful, but the only difference was she looks better in stilettos than I do, and she has better hair.' It wasn't so much a gender issue, but it was like they suddenly decided that everything they disliked about me was O.K. . . . She was given a pass by some of the very people who said I wasn't prepared."

Huckabee sounded more positive about Palin when he spoke to Christianity Today the week after she was chosen. The former candidate seems to be unleashing months of frustration in the post-election weeks. Last week, he released a book criticizing several evangelicals for not supporting him.

Look, all Huckabee is saying is, it's hypocritical to bash Huckabee in the primaries as inexperienced and then support Palin, who is pretty much identical to Huckabee on the important issues. The only difference, says he, is she's a woman and, well, not Huckabee.

Nice coverage by Sarah.

I supported and campaigned for Huckabee in the primaries, but I think Palin was a very wise choice for VP because she DIDN'T run for president.
If McCain had picked Huckabee, Romney, Guliani or any of the other candidates, supporters of the other candidates would have been annoyed that he hadn't picked theirs.
Palin was fresh, new and exciting, which was her advantage over Huckabee.

I don't know if McCain would have had a better chance with Huckabee or Palin. Truth is she probably fired up the Republican Party better than the Huckster would have. I hope he runs again for something. His ideals are too good to be just doing a TV show. I just hope he doesn't get into the "whine" game. People don't like poor losers or whiners. Don't do the "blame game," Mike. No body wants to come to your "Pity Party!" You didn't get chosen, now buck it up and help get the Republican Party on fire and back in power again.

Huckabee is right on the money, except that he is far more experienced than her with 10 years as governor of a state four times bigger than Alaska. The population of Alaska is almost as big as metropolitan Little Rock. She was picked purely for her looks plus McCain's delusional belief that Hillary's supporters would vote for any woman.

Newsflash, Huck: hypocrisy abounds. Get over it. Press on.

It's refreshing to see Huckabee taking a wack at Palin. Huckabee is right however, he and Palin were equally unqualified to be vice president, let along president. It's simply too funny that Huckabee and Palin really think that they are the future of the Republican Party, in which case the Republican Party has no future.

It's hard to judge his point. I have never seen Huckabee in stilettos.

Huckabee is too much of an honest nice guy to make it in Washington. I love his character and straight-forwardness.
Palin was a great choice because she fired up the Republican party, but also becuase she is now on the map for the future of the party.
The very things that made her palateable for the Christian Right made her an uncertainty for the undecided voters, and that ultimately cost the election.

Not sure how Palin could have been a better choice for VP since many believe that it is largely because of that choice that McCain lost. I know many, many people who would have voted for McCain except they couldnt' stand Palin.

What do you people at CT Today have against Huckabee? I "hear" jealousy or something-churchy rivalry? He is a good man and would have been a good VP candidate but Sarah Palin was the BEST choice. Please grow up spiritually and stop picking fights and criticizing fellow Christians. You sound like those disciples who got so outraged at the two who asked to be at the left and right hands of Christ.

Huckabee is wrong. The big difference between him and Palin is that, based on his record, Huckabee is NOT a fiscal conservative and small government advocate. Fiscal conservatism and reducing the size of government are the only reasons to vote for Republicans.

well...yeah...no need to scratch your head, Mr. Huckabee. If you can have something just as good as yourself AND look good in stilettos, then that's something! Let's hear it for the Girl!

I think Sarah did what Huckabee just couldn't she energized everyone. She's great and there are nearly 60,000 people supporting her on Team Sarah to run in 2012

Love Huckabee, voted 4 him in primaries. Loved Palin for Veep choice. Most folks get elected Governor, discover they have a jet in which they can go anywhere at taxpayer cost and they holler, "ROOOOAD TRIIIP" AND SPEND OUR MONEY!! But she SOLD it, love that. THEN she didn't just SAY she's pro-life, she HAD a Downs baby when so many are murdering them. Talk about living your faith! Maybe we'll see a Huck-Palin ticket soon!? That'd be great. But America is so full of lazies who want handouts and liberals just keep pandering to those desires, I don't know if we'll see a great ticket like that win anytime soon. HEY, did anyone notice the NY Times article from a year BEFORE G.W. Bush took office showing B. Clinton was the one who pressured FannieMae & FreddieMac to lower mortgage standards? Why didn't McCain make THAT clear in the campaign? It was the last democratic Admin. that started the single biggest problem in our economy today! Jesus' Greatest Blessings to you all.
