What Would Jesus Spend?

Anti-stimulus ad focuses on the scale of new government spending.

First we had "What would Jesus drive?" Then we had "How would Jesus vote?" Now, apparently, we have "What would Jesus spend?" The answer, according to a conservative anti-stimulus video ad making the rounds, might be, "Not as much as Barack Obama."

The 60-second spot, funded by the American Issues Project, states:

"Suppose you spent $1 million every single day starting from the day Jesus was born - and kept spending through today. A million dollars a day for more than 2,000 years. You would still have spent less money than Congress just did."

And the point is???? You could say that about Bush's spending in Iraq alone...would Jesus have spent all that money on missiles, bombs, guns and tanks?? These people are the same winners that spent a lot of money during the election trying painfully to link Obama to Ayers. Sheesh, what a waste of space!

Jesus spent WAY more than that on just me. How much have I spent on Him?

This is truly sad .... really. Obama is President, yes even with Republican leader still questioning his citizenship. As Christians, lifestyle evangelism speaks louder and more effectively than whatever negative point this video is trying to make. Miss church this Sunday and volunteer at the local food bank, or this week deliver meals to the elderly, read the newspaper to the blind, help as a teachers aide, the list goes on. Our country, state, city, or neighborhood need us. Our faith bring works, individually and collectively we can contribute, regardless of if we call it our church, our family, a team or even a village. Jesus paid it all for us.

The point of the ad is not what Jesus would have spent but rather to define a time period starting with Jesus' lifetime on earth and entending to today, spending $1 million each day of that interval.

No Bill, the point of the ad is to mention Jesus' name while carrying out a political attack on Barack Obama. There are many other ways to describe the spending in the stimulus bill without mentioning Jesus. After all Jesus did say "render unto Caesar...etc"

Why can't they state what they feel about the stimulus bill? We had to put with 8 years of the liberals bashing conservatives and Bush so now they have to deal with it now. I'm glad someone has the guts to say something against "Lord Obama" as everyone seems to be worshiping him. I can't believe Christians bought into this sales pitch. So if they want to mention Jesus' name while questioning Obama, more power to them.

I don't have a problem with conservatives bashing President Obama, but they should leave Jesus out of it. Many moderates I know are not interested in Jesus because they think they have to become Republicans before becoming a Christian. Whould Jesus really want His name used to push people away from Him? When using Jesus' name, Christians should focus on the basics, not get sidetracked on rabit trails.

I have a question.

What does Jesus (and religion in general) have to do with economics?

I never remeber going to church to learn about the 'morals of economy and the stimulus bill' and I'm sure I've never heard that Jesus was a credited economist.
