What to Watch: UN Draft of Sex Ed Guidelines Draws Complaints

Here's what we're reading today:

-- Time reports that a United Nations agency is preparing guidelines that recommend that school systems begin sex education at an earlier age than they do now, drawing criticism from conservatives. The agency is also preparing to suggest that as students mature, teachers should offer them more detailed information about avoiding pregnancies and disease, aiming to reduce the 4.4 million abortions sought by 15 to 19-year-olds annually. Here's more from The New York Times.

Conservative groups have also criticized the draft guidelines for discussions of condom use, sexually transmitted diseases and the assertion that “legal abortion performed under sterile conditions by medically trained personnel is safe.” The guidelines suggest discussing “access to safe abortion and post-abortion care” and the “use and misuse of emergency contraception” with those ages 12 to 15. The guidelines recommend that “the right to and access to safe abortion” should also be discussed.

-- Dan Gilgoff tweets that Sojourner's Jim Wallis has hired Burns Strider, who used to work on Hillary Clinton's campaign.

-- Cardinal Sean P. O’Malley defended his participation in Ted Kennedy's funeral after hearing opposition from some conservative Catholics because of Kennedy’s support for abortion, the Boston Globe reports. The New York Times writes that Kennedy calls the 1969 car accident that killed a woman “inexcusable” in a new memoir coming out. Kennedy writes in another portion of the book, "Some people make mistakes and try to learn from them and do better. Our sins don’t define the whole picture of who we are.”

-- Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin says the Senate is swamped and has little time to go over the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy that does not allow openly gays to serve.

-- Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who was arrested last year on federal corruption charges, is referencing God in his new book.

“I believe there is a purpose behind all that has happened to us. And maybe God has a plan for me to be an instrument for good. And that the troubles we are facing, the lies, the abandonment, the heartbreak, the pain, are all obstacles in the journey we must make, where like the stories in the Bible, God brings good out of bad.”

-- New York yogis are preparing to fight a state proposal that would require them to spend money on a certification.

Ironically, many who rail against abortion and AIDs don't want to increase education that statistically reduces STDs, unwanted pregnancies and abortions. So which way do you want it: Fewer STDs and safer, fewer abortions? or more STDs and more abortions?
Granted, it's better to avoid high-risk behavior altogether, but what prevents one from imitating Uganda's ABC model: abstinence, be faithful, and condom use? One can increase sex ed and encourage good sexual ethics at the same time; they're not contradictory, folks!

Sharp insights, Brendan. It is indeed a catch-22. But I think Romans 1 is instructive in that it shows that God "gives people over" to their sins as judgment. Applied to the present situation, this shows us that God intends to use the negative consequences of our actions to teach us (and others) the error and destruction they bring. What's messy about this is that often these consequences affect others and not just ourselves. I'm with you... I want to protect innocent people (e.g., unborn children) from the consequences of those who choose to rebel against God's moral order. But we have to figure out a way of doing that without giving children the impression that sin doesn't have consequences, or giving the impression that what the Bible calls sin (and what U. S. law used to outlaw) is not actually sin. Let's all keep working together on this, in a spirit of discernment and charity. Lord, help us.

Condon use??????

Isn't that being heretical ... Eh, you know... that stopping of be fruitful and multiply thing. Even though it's clear that with 7 billion of us here right now that things are in dire straights!

Actually, Jason, conservatives don't want people to remain ignorant. We want the truth to come out about the negative side effects of drug abuse, alcohol abuse, premarital sex, abortion, etc. Our society is so good at smoke-screening the truth about the consequences of these things that children are more willing to participate in these activities and then suffer the consequences later. Take premarital sex for instance. Planned Parenthood teaches that using a condom is "safe sex". That's a bunch of manure. A condom only covers a certain part of the male genitalia. Because of that, you can still contract an STD during intercourse. Also, there are tiny holes in each condom that are only small enough to stop sperm from going through, not the AIDs virus. You can STILL GET AIDs if you wear a condom. So, who is not telling the truth here. Conservatives or the liberals trying to push their sex ed and "safe sex" garbage? Now onto abortion. Women are not being told that they can end up with a perforated uterus, blood poisoning, or a total hysterectomy as a result of a botched abortion. "Everything will go back to normal once it's over with." Again, a load of manure. There are physical and emotional (increased depression and suicidal ideations) consequences that women are not being told when they go to get an abortion. Let's see the sex ed program include that in their curriculum when they teach sex ed in the classroom. This is all documented information too. Research studies have been done on the after effects (negative) of abortion by scientists and doctors. As a conservative, I want this information out there so when our youth make a decision to partake of premarital sex or have an abortion, they are making an informed decision and they know what they could be facing. But you won't see any of this information included in the sex ed program sponsored by the UN or Planned Parenthood.

LH

See what I mean ... this is exactly what I'm talking about ...

1. You are quite incorrect in saying AIDS in your entire post. I think you meant to say the HIV virus.

Basically AIDS is a result of HIV.

If condoms stop the flow of body fluids. And if the HIV virus is transmitted in body fluids. How does it then get passed thru the condoms?

Please provide one study that shows HIV was transmitted even thru condom usage. And by study I mean documentation from a credible source. And no - anything from Focus on the Family, its associated websites and this site would not be considered credible.

There is no such thing as safe sex. As Gregory Patterson has pointed out it is safer sexiopu

Condoms have unavoidable "holes" in them during the manufacturing process which are 5 to 70 times as large as the HIV virus. If someone has HIV and has sex with a condom thinking they are safe, they are "dead" wrong.

Moreover all condoms fail "seepage" tests more thgan 50% of the time.

If we follow God's Authoritive Word and what it says about a safe and holy sex life, then we are truly safe.

The UN is only promoting condoms because they want 95% of the world's population to die off. The powers that be are not seeking our best interests as individuals, just the elite who are the New World Order.

Peace in Jesus Name

Tyler

Provide the evidence that use of condoms does not stop the transmission of the HIV virus?

Sure there must have been studies done.

And if this condons were so "holy" don't you think there would be more instances of unwanted pregnancies? As a matter of fact at least 50% more.

If we were to follow God's word, we would have about 15 billion people on earth by now. If earth cannot cope with the 7 billion people now. How do you think we would be able to cope with an additional 8 billion people?

The world is overpopulated as it is, birth control is of dire importants. We should have the one child policy similar to China and stop the rabbit like multiplying of the poor and unfunded families who will either get abortions or live a life of hardships.

Best Political Quiz: We should be ever-conscious of sustainability constraints, but forcing a people to commit demographic suicide with inane one-child policies is economically unsustainable in the long-term (one person supporting a nuclear family, two parents and four grandparents?) and wrong. Education, not a one-child policy, is the answer.

Justin: God's Word says doesn't say how many people should be on earth right now - it just says "be fruitful and multiply," and it's safe to say we've already done that and then some. You're confusing God's Word with wrong-headed interpretations thereof by the Catholic Majesterium, who justly deserve your criticism.

Gregory: "Conservatives" are not necessarily spawn of Satan. btw, many conservatives define sin by what God's Word says and are not just making it up. I think we should alleviate suffering, but why should we deny real sins in doing so? ABC all the way.

Tyler: though not fool-proof, studies show condoms do pretty well at reducing HIV transmission. And no, the UN does not want to kill off 95% of the world's population; that's crazy talk, especially since its folks care more about the world's poor than many in Western Countries.

Brendan

I know that the bible doesn't say that. I was just extrapolating on a poster's statement to show how we have to be very careful with the statement "God's word says."

It is really God's word reads anyhow....

If the U.N. had more intelligent people working there surely they would've noticed that the sex education taught by the entertainment industry has been the biggest offender as far as contributing to unwanted pregnancies as well as sexual violence. But you know how beaucraps like to sit around smacking themselves in the butt and pretending they own the seat they are sititing on when in fact they are owned by the taxpayers who they see as dolls they can use to improve their sex lives. Time to get real losers. You can smack yourselves silly but that doesn't mean you own that seat.

For instance, Lev. 18:22...don't read it without reading the entire chapter. It's clear that it's about idolatry. Don't do as the Egyptian and Canaanites do, with their allegedly wild fertility rites and the sacrifice on one's "seed."

The "homosexual" clobber verses are embedded in a context that makes it clear that they are part of anti-idolatry chapters and letters. They are not specifically about people who are Gay.

Your logic makes about as much sense as saying that when God said "Do not murder" He was not really addressing murderers...

Leviticus 18:22 "Do not practice homosexuality; it is a detestable sin.

Leviticus 18:23 "A man must never defile himself by having sexual intercourse with an animal, and a woman must never present herself to a male animal in order to have intercourse with it; this is a terrible perversion.

Leviticus 18:24 "Do not defile yourselves in any of these ways, because this is how the people I am expelling from the Promised Land have defiled themselves.

Leviticus 18:25 As a result, the entire land has become defiled. That is why I am punishing the people who live there, and the land will soon vomit them out.

.

Leviticus 18:9 "Do not have sex with your sister"

Yet there are cases in the bible when this was condoned by God.

So the question is. These verese that you are quoting and the other verses in Levitcus are they moral laws or health/religious laws for a people and at a particular time?

Acts 17:30 In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent.

Romans 5:12 When Adam sinned, sin entered the entire human race. Adam's sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.

Romans 5:13 Yes, people sinned even before the law was given. And though there was no law to break, since it had not yet been given,

Romans 5:14 they all died anyway--even though they did not disobey an explicit commandment of God, as Adam did. What a contrast between Adam and Christ, who was yet to come!

The fact that teaching the avoidance of sexual imorality is a constant througout the Bible, is a very strong indicator that they are moral laws that transcend a particular place and time...

Mark 7:20 And then he added, "It is the thought-life that defiles you.

Mark 7:21 For from within, out of a person's heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder,

Mark 7:22 adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, eagerness for lustful pleasure, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness.

Mark 7:23 All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you and make you unacceptable to God."

.

No David Hardy.

You can try to dance your way around it as much as you want and quote as many verses as you want. It does not change the facts. I'll leave you and G. Patterson to sling verses at each other.

1. God is supposed to be the same
2. He is supposed not to change
3. Obviously He did change his mind.
4. One of the people he condoned sex with a close family member; was the same one He made a promise of blessings to.
5. He'll probably change his mind again. You or I cannot say he won't or will.
6. We all read what we want into the bible.

When God called Abram was he married or single?.... Did God make the covenant with Abram, or Abraham?... Is a man righteous before or after he is aware of God's will?

If you wish to justify homosexuality because of Abraham and Sarah... You get to... You have a free-will to, as you have said... "We all read what we want into the bible"

The fact that a person reads what they want to... Does not make what they want to interpret the Bible to read, the way that the Bible should be interpreted...

This passage does not require a Phd in theology to understand....

Romans 1:26 That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other.

Romans 1:27 And the men, instead of having normal sexual relationships with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men and, as a result, suffered within themselves the penalty they so richly deserved.

Romans 1:28 When they refused to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their evil minds and let them do things that should never be done.

The last line of vers 28 sums it up quite well.... "do things that should never be done"... Indicates that homosexuality and Christianity are not at all compatable...

.

David Hardy, I really wish you had a Phd or at least a BA. I think if you did you would understand the simple concept that I've just indicated to you and that Gino Patterson has also indicated to you.

We read what we want into the bible as no one reads the bible with a blank slate. I know this thought may sound radical to many Christians. But it is really a very basic concept. For you to know 100% correctly what the bible says- you would have to be God or at least the writer of the scriptures. Unless you are one of those – you should really desist from being so emphatic about what you think it says.

You provided verses from Leviticus purporting to show that homosexuality was wrong. I asked you if these verses that you quoted were moral or health prohibitions given to a people at a particular point in time. As many Christians often do, when faced with the obvious, you avoided answering the question and danced onto another one. Why do you Christians do that by the way? Do you at all understand the outcome when you do such?

Unlike you and other Christians who are solely lacking in intellectual honesty – not to mention other types of honesty. Let me answer your question.

My use of Sara and Abram was not to justify homosexuality. I need no justification for it. I’m 46 years old and have known and been gay since I was about 5 years old.

I used Sara and Abram and the prohibition in Leviticus about marrying your brothers and sisters as an illustration to get you to really think about what you are saying. And I see that I have failed.

I’ve used that example to get you to think about all the other prohibitions in Leviticus and to think about the context in which they were given. I have failed to get you to do that.

Gino Patterson has pretty much pointed out the same thing to you. And he too has failed.

It is therefore apparent that you are being willfully and deliberately obtuse and ignorant. Of late, I think the entire country is seeing how ignorant lots of people who call themselves Christians are. You all are becoming the laughing stock of the world.

Hey, but what can I say…

Oh BTW David Hardy

Those verses that you quoted from Romans. Were they given to a particualar set of people for a particular circumstance or not?

Well Christianity and lots of things are not compatible. But I do not see that stopping you and lots of people who identify themselves as christians from doing them.

So once again- it's each to his own.

1 Corinthians 14:33–35 (NIV)
As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says.

So for preachers like Joyce Meyers and Billy Graham's daughter they are actually sinning everytime they get up to preach. Imagine that - they are actually sinning by actually preaching.

Do you have a female preacher at your place of worship David Hardy?

David Hardy, I really wish you had a Phd or at least a BA. I think if you did you would understand the simple concept that I've just indicated to you and that Gino Patterson has also indicated to you.

I do not need a Phd to understand that you are exercising your free-will and believing whatever you want to believe...

You are free to disregard the entire Bible... You are free to say that it was written for another time, place culture, etc... You are free to pick and choose to your heart's content... Whatever helps you sleep at night... In this life...

I am completely convinced that on the day of judgement, no one will get off on a technicality...

I believe that the Bible is the divinely inspired word of God and the truths contained within it, are as totally relevant today, as the day that God gave Moses the commandments on Mt Sinai...

The Bible is clear as crystal in teaching that homosexuality is totally and completely incongruous with a victorious Christian experience...

.

Matt 19:21 "Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

I guess no Christian in America wants to be perfect and follow Christ huh? Because between you and me - I have never seen a more greedy set of selfish individuals. Now I'm going to read into the bible here. Based upon this verse; pretty much most if not all Christians in America will have their part in the lake of fire. Right side along all the rest sinners that you all love to judge.

Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

(John 14:6 NIV) Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

These and many other verses which I'm sure you can quote indicate that belief in Jesus is the only way to Heaven

However, what happens to those who have never heard about Jesus Christ?

You seem love to throwing out bible verses ,do you want to throw out the one that talks about this as well?

Just so you know David Hardy - those people fate come down to a technicality.

I sincerely wish you would stop speaking for God and what He will or will not do. I think His thoughts and ways are way beyond yours or mine, don't you remember... or has He been in counsel with you?

David Hardy be sensible, come on now. A bit of common sense must reign.

It is obvious that some of the bible was written for a time and place that was not for the 21st Century.

Leviticus 19:19 " Do not plant your field with two different type of seeds. Do not wear clothing woven of two different types of materials."

Leviticus 19:20 "Now if a man lies carnally with a woman who is a slave acquired for another man, but who has in no way been redeemed nor given her freedom, there shall be punishment; they shall not, however, be put to death, because she was not free.
You surely can't think that those instructions apply to us here in the 21st Century?

Then turn to the book of Revelations. Obviously lots of stuff that is written there were not for the time when it was written and perhaps may not even be for our times.

Then in Leviticus we have things such as do not murder, steal, lie etc that have been inculcated into our laws.

So obviously there are somethings that apply to us and others that don't.

So David Hardy - once again we all read what we want into the bible. The heinous thing that you and many people do. Is to completely ignore that you do this and love to trumpet God says. It is not so much that God says - it is really more that we say God says.

As G. Patterson indicates, you have to read the bible more wisely.

I leave you to it; I'm pretty bored with this topic now. Between you and those t-bag crazy folks - one can but take only so much lunacy in a given month.

So David Hardy - once again we all read what we want into the bible. The heinous thing that you and many people do. Is to completely ignore that you do this and love to trumpet God says. It is not so much that God says - it is really more that we say God says.

There is more than enough biblical evidence to indicate that homosexual behavior is an abomination in the eyes of God..

It is a sexual perversion that even in our present age is demonstrated by the fact that over 50% of all new AIDS case are within the homosexual community...

The facts are that homosexuals across the board are represented in much larger percentages of all other STD's in relation to their population percentages than the rest of the world's population...

The fact remains that homosexuals brutalize each other with not only deadly STD's, but also with battery... In much greater percentages than the rest of the world's population...

It only proves the truth of what is written in Romans about homosexuals...

Romans 1:27 And the men, instead of having normal sexual relationships with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men and, as a result, suffered within themselves the penalty they so richly deserved....

The biggest threat, both physical and emotional to homosexuals is not "homophobic" heterosexuals... It is their own kind...

.

Public health records demonstrate that homosexuals, representing 2 percent of America's population, suffer vastly disproportionate percentages of several of America's most serious STDs, with incidences among homosexuals of diseases like gonorrhea, syphilis, hepatitis A and B, cytomegalovirus, shigellosis, giardiasis, amoebic bowel disease and herpes far exceeding their presence in the general population. These are due to common homosexual practices that include fellatio, anilingus, digital stimulation of the rectum and ingestion of urine and feces.

An exhaustive study in The New England Journal of Medicine, medical literature's only study reporting on homosexuals who kept sexual "diaries," indicated the average homosexual ingests the fecal material of 23 different men each year. The same study indicated the number of annual sexual partners averaged nearly 100. Homosexuals averaged, per year, fellating 106 different men and swallowing 50 of their seminal ejaculations, and 72 penile penetrations of the anus. (Corey, L, and Holmes, K.K., "Sexual Transmission of Hepatitis A in Homosexual Men," New England Journal of Medicine, 1980, vol 302: 435-438; as quoted in "Homosexuality and Civil Rights," Tony Marco, 1992).

A study by McKusick, et al., of 655 San Francisco homosexuals reported that only 24 percent of the sample claimed to have been "monogamous" during the past year, and of this 24 percent, 5 percent drank urine, 7 percent engag-ed in sex involving insertion of a fist in their rectums, 33 percent ingested feces, 53 percent swallowed semen and 59 percent received semen in their rectums in the month just previous to the survey ("AIDS and Sexual Behavior Reported by Homosexual Men in San Francisco," American Journal of Public Health, December 1985, 75: 493-496; quoted in "Homosexuality and Civil Rights," Tony Marco, 1992).

Lesbians show similar patterns of high venereal disease incidence relative to the general population. They are 19 times more likely to have had syphilis, twice as likely to have had genital warts, four times as likely to have had scabies, seven times more likely to have had infection from vaginal contact, 29 times more likely to have had oral infection from vaginal contact and 12 times more likely to have had an oral infection from penile contact ("Medical Aspects of Homosexuality," Institute for the Scientific Investigation of Sexuality, 1985, Jaffe and Keewhan, et al.; quoted in "Homosexuality and Civil Rights," Tony Marco, 1992).
AIDS research by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control reported that the typical homosexual interviewed claimed to have had more than 500 different sexual partners in a lifetime. Considered by themselves, the AIDS victims in this study averaged more than 1,100 lifetime sexual partners. Some reported as many as 20,000. Studies reported by A-P. Bell, M.S. Weinberg and S.K. Hammersmith in the book "Sexual Preference" (Bloomington, Indiana University Press, 1981) indicated that only 3 percent of homosexuals had fewer than 10 lifetime sexual partners. Only about 2 percent could be classified as either monogamous or semi-monogamous (from "Homosexuality and Civil Rights," Tony Marco, 1992).

To the present time, 75 to 85 percent of AIDS cases reported are related to homosexual activity, promiscuous heterosexual sex and IV drug abuse. AIDS stubbornly refuses to spread into the population in general, even 20 years after its discovery, despite dire warnings to the contrary.

.

In their frank but empathetic book, "Men Who Beat the Men Who Love Them," (1991) David Island, a homosexual domestic violence victim and psychologist, and Patrick Letellier, his homosexual counselor colleague, report that hate crimes are a homosexual and lesbian domestic way of life.

These authors document "three major health hazards" for homosexual men and lesbians. After AIDS and chemical abuse, same-sex battery is the third major health hazard for homosexual men. Lesbians' first health hazard is cancer, followed closely by chemical abuse and, yes, same-sex battery.

S. 909, the "hate crime" bill, is called the Matthew Shepard Act. In 1997, just before Matthew Shepard was murdered, the homosexual Washington Blade reported 1,566 cases of same-sex domestic violence and 1,490 cases of "bias" incidents in six cities in 1995.

In 2004, 818 bias-motivated crimes of persons against "gays" were reported, while an earlier study recorded 5,046 homosexual domestic violence reports in just nine cities. Remember, bias "incidents" can be graffiti, theft, mean remarks, etc., even absent evidence. The FBI "Uniform Crime Reports, Offense Type by Bias Motivation," Table 4, cited one alleged "anti-homosexual murder" in 2004 and none since.

However, equality under law means that a homosexual who kills or curses another homosexual (say, calls him a "bi--h" or other such term) will be liable for a bias, or "hate" crime charge, just as a "straight" citizen would be.

Violence is part of any transient, chemically abusing, lust-based culture, and it is only natural that the homosexual movement strives to hide the truth. However, data from the mainstream homosexual weekly the Advocate, confirms the findings of Charles B Johnson and myself in “Partner Solicitation Characteristics as an Expression of Male Sexual Orientation.” That is, once sexually violated by men, boys often grow up to retaliate against men, even if they "sleep with the enemy."

The Advocate reports 21 percent of its upscale, largely white, male respondents were sex abuse victims by age 15. Since a large number of boys are victimized between age 15 and 18, this brings the angry boy victim population into the millions. In fact, with roughly a 17 percent boy sex abuse population, the estimates of boy victims are between 6 and 8 million, some might say, walking time bombs.

Like girls, boy sex victims often become promiscuous, even taking up prostitution as a reaction to childhood violations.

While few girl sex victims roam the streets to hunt down and murder the sex that commonly harmed them, the record shows that some boy sex victims do just that.

We are obliged to find out which alleged homosexual "hate crimes" (from curses to bar fights and such) are flashbacks to such early victimization.

The homosexual press commonly reports that the killers of "gay men" are often young male prostitutes who murder their "tricks." Andrew Cunanan, a homosexual prostitute, and Jeffrey Dahmer, a homosexual necrophiliac, were both early child sex-abuse victims. Were they and scores of other vengeful homosexual murderers guilty of bias or gay "hate crimes"?

How many "hate crimes" involve men and boys who, like women and girls, react to males who solicit them? Do men and boys not have the same rights as women and girls to curse, slap or punch those who sexually harass them?

The homosexual lobby insists that every "gay man" who is cursed or assaulted is victim of a "hate crime." Yet the data suggest that aggression is often a defense mechanism triggered by recall (often unconscious) of early sexual violation. In "Men Who Beat the Men Who Love Them," the authors estimate "at least 500,000 gay men are abused by their lovers each year in the United States."

They argue that as more men pick fights than do women, with "two men in a relationship" the probability is "violence occurs more frequently in the gay male community than in straight America."

Important to the vote on "hate crimes," these two "gay" authors say that it is certain that sexual violence "is acknowledged, talked about, and dealt with more in straight relationships than in gay male relationships.

Both experts agree that homosexuals hide from the truth about battery. Relevant to the current effort to arrest "straights," "The gay community needs to recognize that wealthy, white, educated, 'politically correct' gay men batter their lovers."

.

So David Hardy, I see you are at it again.

You have got to be a self hating closted gay man. I don't understand your obsession with all things gay otherwise.

This is bordering on an unseemly obsession with men having sex with men.

If you are going to quote health facts, surely you know that you are supposed to quote them from the recognised authorities i.e the Center for Disease Control(CDC) and quote current statistics.

http://www.cdc.gov/

You must know this and you are not doing it. You are being deceitful. To do what you are doing is unseemly.

If you are going to quote health facts, surely you know that you are supposed to quote them from the recognised authorities i.e the Center for Disease Control(CDC) and quote current statistics.

http://www.cdc.gov/

Posted by: Justin at September 19, 2009

I will gladly oblige... You will see that the data from the CDC reinforces the data already posted...

The term men who have sex with men (MSM) refers to all men who have sex with other men, regardless of how they identify themselves (gay, bisexual, or heterosexual). In the United States, HIV and AIDS have had a tremendous impact on MSM.

Consider these facts:

AIDS has been diagnosed for more than half a million MSM. Over 300,000 MSM with AIDS have died since the beginning of the epidemic.

MSM made up more than two thirds (68%) of all men living with HIV in 2005, even though only about 5% to 7% of men in the United States reported having sex with other men.

In a 2005 study of 5 large US cities, 46% of African American MSM were HIV-positive.
Since HIV/AIDS in MSM was first diagnosed 1981, gay and bisexual men have been leaders in dealing with the challenges of the epidemic. Gay organizations and activists, through their work, have contributed greatly to many of the guidelines for prevention, treatment, and the care of people living with HIV/AIDS.

For complex reasons, HIV/AIDS continues to take a high toll on the MSM population. For example, the number of new HIV/AIDS cases among MSM in 2005 was 11% more than the number of cases in 2001. It is unclear whether this increase is due to more testing, which results in more diagnoses, or to an increase in the number of HIV infections. Whatever the reasons, in 2005, MSM still accounted for about 53% of all new HIV/AIDS cases and 71% of cases in male adults and adolescents.

You are right Carl. None of us read the bible as a blank slate. You are also right that we read the bible with all of our life experiences and prejuidices impacting upon it.

There are parts of the Bible that are mythic and non factual and parts of the Bible that are historical.

There are parts of the Bible that reflect how the ancient Hebrews regarded themselves and God and which we reject for good reasons. (otherwise there would need to be lots of stone mounds or perhaps we would just use bullets instead....)

And parts of the Bible that reflect profound truths that challenge us to this day.

But it all has value in different ways. Some of it is useful to us today and some of it gives us insight to an ancient culture.

And some of it like Revelations and the Ezekiel and Daniel will have relevance for our tomorrows.

I try to read and study it with care and try to gleam the truths contained therein.

How about you Carl? I would like to suggest to you that you read it with an open mind and sincerely ask of God the author to make His truths known to you.

Justin, I agree with Augustine that Scripture interprets Scripture, that the whole Bible is internally coherent when rightly read. So I don't reject any of the Bible, but I do limit application of certain parts according to internal biblical restraints.
And that reading of the Bible leads me to love those around me by reducing unnecessary death and suffering while proclaiming the Good News in a holistic way - in part, to support the UN draft of sex ed guidelines.

It's the rightly read thing that I sometimes have an issue with. Take a look around... most will claim that they are reading it correctly... yet if this is so, how come there are still so many differences around what the scripture is supposed to be saying.

I am a Muslim and as such against all sorts of immoral behavior including homosexuality.
I have greatly benefited from the discussion in this forum, particularly quotations from Christian scriptures and statistics from healthcare experts.
I am really surprised how can believing Christians advocate in favor of this unnatural trait in the name of freedom or human rights or anti homophobia.
It's really unfortunate that those at the helm of UN are promoting such immoral practices and encouraging minors to engage in things that will ultimately destroy their humanity. These sadists call themselves champions/guardians of human rights, promoters of better health, fighters of STDs and so on. They however, are faithfully working on their own agenda of occupying the earth for their selfish motives through wars, spreading sexual anarchy, drugs (including so-called vaccines) and consumerism. Welcome New World Order! Followers of divine guidance need to unitedly fight these evil people tooth and nail. I was highly impressed by the reflections of Cardinal Alfonso Lopez Trujillo on Family values versus Safe Sex http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/resource.php?n=11 blasting the arguments of the propagandists of these champions of human rights.
