Obama: Same-sex Marriage Views Evolving

President Obama said to a group of liberal bloggers Wednesday that his views on same-sex marriage are evolving. Adam Smith of Time magazine suggests that Obama might be setting himself up for a "Clinton-esque shift" on the issue. Here's the transcript from Joe Sudbay:

I think that -- I am a strong supporter of civil unions. As you say, I have been to this point unwilling to sign on to same-sex marriage primarily because of my understandings of the traditional definitions of marriage.

But I also think you’re right that attitudes evolve, including mine. And I think that it is an issue that I wrestle with and think about because I have a whole host of friends who are in gay partnerships.

Obama addressed the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy that he's working to overturn. "I think 'don’t ask, don’t tell' is wrong," he said. "I think it doesn’t serve our national security, which is why I want it overturned."

The larger issue, he said, was the attitude that the LGBT has disillusionment and disappointment with Obama.

"I guess my attitude is that we have been as vocal, as supportive of the LGBT community as any President in history," he told a group of liberal bloggers. "I’ve appointed more openly gay people to more positions in this government than any President in history."

I'll be happy to see BHO evolve into just another citizen come 2012. Or even before! I wouldn't be surprised to see his own party impeach him for incompetence.

Repeal don't ask don't tell! Would that mean cross dressing drill sargeants? Wow! Guess I'll be betting on the Taliban .

If Civil Unions as termed of the same sex are supported than was the distruction of Sodom & Gamora JUSTIFIED ?

I trust it will "evolve" him right out of office.

I appreciate our President's thoughtful compassion. He weighs issues with his head and with his heart. I have been very saddened by the knee jerk responses of so many Christians promoting hatred towards this man whom God has placed in this position for this time... "Judge not, lest you be judged" Jeus said. People do not feel loved when you are so busy criticising their lifestyle that you fail to see them as children of God. President Obama brings the type of compassion into his preseidency that was displayed in Lincoln's, and I am proud to call him my President.

Not having married myself, I can only derive the characteristics of this union, between adults, by my parents example. By my observations, the love they shared for each other was their bonding. Together with their love of each other, was the love they both shared with God, and the love they shared with me.

When the purpose of the license was explained to me, it was sensible, that they would pledge their love for each other lawfully. Which means, they would both insure each others health, and well-being with all of the humanitarian, and economical resources available to them. That is, what I came to understand as, a marriage.

Gender specification for this type of union can be singularly identifiable, but because of the life commitment by both adults to each other, equal allowances should exist in a differently specified union as well.

For the adults who cannot come to grips with the aspect of two people loving each other so deeply, that they would do everything possible to insure the other is given the best life has to offer, you misinterpret the proposition of commitment. Characterized as a marriage, or as a civil union, both adults obligate their lives to each other, and both agreements should be afforded the equivalent moralities.

The obvious, and basic reason for either lawful acknowledgement, is love. If there is a question of whom we are to love, may I offer the following quotation.

Mark Chapter 12, Verses 30 & 31

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.” “The second is this: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” There is no commandment greater than these.”

I was looking for a new wrist watch and was wondering if anyone had any information this? Is any of this wrist watch information good? citizen watches

The author has written an excellent article. You have made your point and there is not much to argue about. It is like the following universal truth that you can not argue with: No truth is universal, everything has its exception. Thanks for the info
