California Moves To Pass First State Ban of Gay Conversion Therapy

Many Christian therapists have already abandoned the practice.

The California senate has voted to ban reparative therapy for gay and lesbian teens. The bill, which interestingly enough has been opposed by both the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality and the California Psychological Association (though for very different reasons), now goes on to the state assembly.

CT has reported how many Christian therapists have abandoned reparative therapy amid broad changes in the ex-gay movement, as well as how Willow Creek Community Church and other groups have ended partnerships with Exodus International.

Practitioners of reparative therapy in the United Kingdom have recently lost their licenses over the disputed practice.

Sodom !

The sad thing is not that the state of California would take this action, but that churches and purported Christian therapists no longer can even see that homosexuality is wrong. This is not about grace and being open to sinners or somehow declaring homosexuality as a greater sin. This is about carving out a huge chunk of sinful behaviors and reclassifying them as no longer being sinful. It denies the redeeming grace of Christ and makes Him out to be a liar.

Note the above bill refers only to TEENS (minors in the linked article), not to adults. Apparently, reparative therapy has not caused any adults to commit suicide.

My guess is that it's just a matter of time b/4 other states pass similar laws. This is another reminder that we Christians are a minority in a post-Christian society.

I don't think that abandoning this particular type of therapy means Christian therapists think homosexuality is not a sin.

This "therapy" was deeply fraudulent, obviously so, long before it finally has collapsed. I hope we need not waste more time on this red herring.

The fundamental issue here is not homosexuality, or even raparative therapy, but the government's intrusion into a very personal relationship - that of counselor and client. In principle, then, legislation can be passed prohibiting a doctor from recommending against abortion, or trying to reform her patient's eating habits or other destructive lifestyle. When the government seeks to regulate therapy in the counselors chambers, is the pastor's study next? There are issues here that go beyond theology and morality, which is why the California APA opposes it on professional grounds.

The so-called therapy is not effective. Period. No one is trying to outlaw chemotherapy, why? Chemotherapy is very effective and treating cancer. This fraudulent practice, does not work. Christians have created a system that does more damage than help. It's like selling arsenic and calling it medicine. Where are the studies (Scientific) that demonstrate the effective of the process? There is NONE!!

Why should individuals be denied the right to seek reparative therapy if they want to try it? It's a very personal decision that should be left to individuals and parents, NOT to the state. Leftists seek to eliminate any options they personally dislike or disagree with. They don't want people to have the freedom to choose, so they ban and eliminate choices to force others into the alternatives THEY prefer.

I strongly deplore the anti-gay rhetoric of some, so called, Evangelical leaders but let's go to the facts:
1- Homosexuality disappeared from the DSM (Compendium of Mental Diseases) by a political decision, not by a scientific decision. If you think for a moment how the sexual relationship is typically performed between it's hard to deny homosexuality is a paraphylia. That's the reason why even secular psychologists in the past tried to perform reparative therapy.
2- Most churches are abandoning Exodus because of the same reason: politics, even though they often have members who were helped by this ministry. They just don't want to be seen as "anti-gay" and one thing the LGBT lobby hates is reparative therapy. They don't want to be "cured".
True, it's not helpful to all, but the same could be said about AA or Drug Rehabilitation centers.
3- The Church in the States and its Christian media are following blindly the World. Even the CPA opposes this legislation.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In 1981 an article published in American Journal of Psychiatry described paraphilia as "recurrent, intense sexually arousing fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors generally involving:[11]
Non-human objects
The suffering or humiliation of oneself or one's partner
Non-consenting persons[12]
Until 1973, homosexuality was included in this list.[13][14][15][16

This ain't the worst of it, folks. Oh no no. This is merely tuning up the instruments before the concert.

Don't even be slightly surprised when California churches and clergy -- the ones that still believe the Bible, at any rate -- find themselves directly targeted and punished under the same or similar state ban.

Divine judgment is coming. Soon.

Where in the constitution, state and federal, is the right given to any gov't entity to deny medical and/or mental health therapy to any individual asking for it. This is a denial of health equality to people. What is CA's problem with sex. It seems like the CA gov't, it's courts, it's judges and it's lawyers have a fetis with homosexual sex as if they gotta have it and want it so bad they have to outlaw anything that will stop a teenager or an adult to refuse homosexual sex. I know homosexuals want young boys and young men but to deny these boys and men the right to mental health therapy is discrimination at the least, and blatant disregard of their right to therapy if they want it, what happened to the homosexuals demand for "equal rights" . What is CA's sickness over wanting homosexual sex available to so many gov't people including schools and teachers promoting this sex. Where is this sickness coming from that they deny someone mental health. Man, that's pure hate to me, it sure isn't love thy neighbor like the homosexuals demand Christians love homosexuals to the point that Christians change their religion for homosexuals. These people are beginning to show themselves for what they really are.

Anna, our Constitution was never meant for our country to be a "nanny state." You've heard that the best government is that which governs least. Just one following quote from Jefferson, but there are many:

"I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them. "

We have given the federal govt more and more power over our lives so that we have become slaves to it. Our money is not seen as "our" hard earned money, but seen as the gov'ts money to do with as it sees fit. Well it sees fit to spy on us, take away our liberties including now encroaching on our religious liberties, and even to take away our citizenship and detain us for the rest of our lives anywhere in the world. The government is stopping farm produce stands and threatening the farmers with prison. The list goes on. I don't want the government to be a nanny state, and neither did the framers of our Constitution.
