Holy Saturday

peter-and-john-burnand.jpg Peter and John Running to the Tomb of Christ, by Eugene Burnand

Holy God, Holy and Mighty,
Holy and merciful Savior,
deliver us not into the bitterness of eternal death.
- The Burial of the Dead, Rite Two from The Book of Common Prayer

I know that my Redeemer lives,
and that in the end he will stand upon the earth.

And after my skin has been destroyed,
yet in my flesh I will see God;

I myself will see him
with my own eyes - I, and not another.
How my heart yearns within me!

- Job 19:25-27

Comments

This picture really captures Peter and John's sense of urgency. And I love the verse from Job that's paired with it.

Peter and John ran to the tomb Sunday morning, not Holy Saturday. Burnand has a "Holy Saturday" painting of Apostles in the upper room - I may be wrong, but I think
this is a mistake.
