Juanita Bynum Returns to Conference Stage

Self-declared prophetess emerges after domestic abuse court case and TV circuit.

“This too shall pass,” Pentecostal teacher Juanita Bynum wrote to fans after months of intense media attention following a 2007 parking-lot assault by her husband, Bishop Thomas Weeks. Now, it appears it has.

juanitabynum.jpg

Renaming herself “Juanita Bynum II” on her website, Bynum has signaled a return to speaking at conferences for Christian women. Now, with media attention swinging her way once more, the question is how — and how long — Bynum, who first gained notability for drawing large crowds at T. D. Jakes’s “Woman, Thou Art Loosed” conferences, will be defined by her past.

In a strange case of symmetry, last month Paula White, a high-profile Pentecostal teacher whose marriage unraveled around the same time as Bynum’s, made news when she took the helm of Without Walls International Church in Tampa, Florida. The two break-ups made headlines in part because they seemed to reveal a pattern, leading Charisma and Time magazines to ask, “Is Marriage Still Sacred?” and “Are Mega-Preachers Scandal Prone?Time interpreted the incidents as proof that “divorce, once a taboo in evangelical culture, is now a fact of life.”

In 2007 and early 2008, Bynum’s appearances on TV shows like Divorce Court and during the court proceedings (during which Weeks eventually pled guilty for aggravated assault) led some to doubt her role as a spiritual leader. The test of Bynum’s popularity will play out in coming weeks, but a mostly female audience in Plant City, Florida, welcomed Bynum’s return to the stage August 27. Pastor Calvin Collins, whose Greater New Hope Anointed Ministries sponsored the event, introduced Bynum by saying, “She's traveled the world. She's been through storms. And she's come out on the other side."

Comparisons between Bynum and White are probably inevitable due to the timing, and it is true that White’s comeback seems less dramatic than Bynum’s. (White’s announcement involved ex-husband Randy White, who stepped down as pastor of Without Walls and named her his successor.) No one can know all the details of a marriage relationship — and only God knows the heart — but because White and Bynum lead their lives as public figures, they are held to higher standards.

Is that fair? Christians should be aspiring to a higher standard than the world, no matter how publicized their lives — or their mistakes. Unfortunately, it is the mistakes, especially of those who are held up to be role models, that attract the most attention. According to Charisma, news about Christian celebrity couples like the Bynums and Whites has a “domino effect,” creating distrust and discouragement about marriage within the church. Yet we are told in the Bible to learn from our elders in the faith (1 Tim. 5:17), and that Christian women can have a powerful and needed influence over the younger (Titus 2:3–5).

So, who is worthy to be a Christian role model? And who makes that decision?

Who is a worthy Christian role model? Christ. He's the only one who can shoulder the standard we expect to be upheld.

A short flip through our Bibles should also demonstrate that the "heros" and "heroines" of the faith are human beings who had faults; who sinned. These days, we seem to expect sinless perfection of anyone in the public eye. I can't live up to that standard, I'm not holding anyone else to it either.

However, as publicly as I demonstrate my sinfulness, I should just as publicly demonstrate my humility and seek forgiveness from those who are touched by it. I'm not really fond of high-profile Christian leaders who sin in big ways, but their path of seeking forgiveness is quiet and hidden.

Who is worthy remains to be christ Jesus. Remeber there was silence in heaven when a question was asked -Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose it's seals?-- Rev 5:2-4. None was found. Not the angels, nor the 24 elders were found worthy. Only the lumb of God. i am saying that Jesus is our our perfect example not even the angels. Certainly we can find Godly attributes in people and focus on that as we wait to be perfected by His second coming.

Motives of the heart...We are in the day of wolves in sheep's clothing.

Do these women love the flock, and want to feed the sheep or their own flesh?

Money polluted their ministries years ago.

I have prayed for them to repent and return to their first love.

Once again it just goes to show we are all humans with human problems and people need to look to Jesus and take with a grain of salt what others have to say and make sure it lines up with scripture after all God also used a donkey to speak to the prophet. Let these women be humble and step back out of the spotlight for awhile still. The annointing is without repentence but ladies, if you're going to get on the air be up front with the people and minister being humble yourselves and open and not try to put on a facade.
God's best be to all who call upon His name!

David was called the man in God's heart. But remember his sins & how he was convicted by them. True repentance was necessary in order that God goes with him. Leaders should act a true leader because cleaning begins in the children of God. How can we choose the role model? None, except our Lord Jesus Christ. The old tactic always work: watch & pray. Godbless.

This is not about leadership. This is about her Teaching Ministry. Her words now carries a qualification with it. Those now listening to her teaching will have to consider a bit about how she would be applying it in her life.

Am sorry guys. I agree that leaders fall. But that fall should be followed by self reflection and atonement. Not an immediate rush to the pulpit like these two. These two sounds like power crazy

However in America, Christianity is an enterprise. Not a fellowship. It's all dollars and cents and power. So all fine

God Bless

Today we are celebrating our 34th Wedding anniversary and as I prayed this morning for vision to prepare a session for Church education, I came upon this blog. I smiled as I read the marriage drama of these two high profile "Good News" carriers. What I learned from them is that our journeys are paths to be traveled with Scriptures as close by as the new found "GPS" in our travels are in today's living.

Whether in the public or not, all ministers of God are held to higher standards by Christ Himself because we have the Word of God, and we know the Word of God. To intentionally sin against His Word represents God in a bad way. As the Bible says, the Gentiles blaspheme Him because of the way we act. It leads to magazines like Time making statements like, "Divorce is a fact of life." Divorce isn't a fact of life; it is a choice of life and people choose it instead of choosing recovery of the marriage. Everyone thinks a drug addict should go into recovery, but few think that a marriage should.

Well for sure Junie B. and Coach Paula are not role models. They are money-grubbing, self-serving, egotistical, loud-mouth Jezebels who need to sit down and shut up. The reason that Junie B.'s (my name for Juanita Bynum) marriage(s) broke up (yes, Wesley was not the first victim) is because of her mouth. Paula got too big for her britches (or maybe her husband's) and that broke up her marriage. But they both need to get out of the pulpit because God does not call women to preach (1 Tim. 2, and 1 Cor. 14). Blind Christians who do not know their Bibles are the only ones who are gullible enough to be drawn in by these women.

It's funny that we call ourselves Christian, and all we do is pull down and look at each others mistake, then throw it in their faces and say how unholy they are. Forgetting that we have all fall short of the glory of God. The difference between Dr. Bynum II and Pastor Paula White to us is that the public seeks them out for failure and publishes it, while we who are not so well known make our mistakes, hide them, think no one knows, and condemn others because their sins are revealed. Chirst is the only perfect one to walk this earth. No servant is greater than his master, so we will never be better that Him. He has called us to perfection, but we are still "human" and will make mistakes....He knew that they would have made the mistakes they have made even before they were born (Jeremiah 1:5). This goes for us all. Romans 8:35-39, and what shall separate us from the Love of God? We a Christian ought to be our brothers keepers.....We should pray for them, not pull them down.

"The last time I check, none us us was God"

It would be nice to see some real humility in the Church of Jesus Christ, but where would you have to look to find it?

Today's church leaders can "fall", get right back up on their royal mount, and without so much as an "I'm sorry", ride off into the sunset of fame, acclaim and financial success.

However, my problem is not so much with them, as it is with the "forgiving" masses who worship the red-carpeted ground these "leaders" parade on.

It is no wonder that there is a growing disrespect for all things "christian". Both leaders and followers seem to has lost their regard for all things sacred, and so sin of any kind or magnitude is now glossed over. And who better to aid the glossing process, than pretty faces, with charm and charisma, the "gift of the gab" and a "conversion story" to tell with flair and panache.

When I read stories like the above I am comforted by the words of Jesus when he said "let the wheat and the tares grow together until the harvest". I am a firm believer in "the day of reckoning".

And to those who speak glibly of "forgiveness" I ask, what about genuine repentance evidenced by the appropriate fruit?

So what are you now saying...is it that Juanita should stay with a husband who battered and assaulted her till he kills her or what?

Juanita and White are powerful women of God. Lets pray for them instead of criticizing them. The devil will never attack someone who is not doing anything for God because he knows that they are already his. Devil attacks powerful prayerful people like Juanita and Paula. Lets learn to pray for our leaders.

we r not pure and right before the fahter then let us humble oursalves for the sake of his grace

for those of you who have something negative to say about my auntie juanita, you need to examine your own selves. Because the bible says you should not judge for with the same measure you judge others you will be judged. My auntie did nothing wrong. She is a public figure and this she knows but you can not hold her accountable for the acts of other people. She is not money hungry. She made an honest living just like the rest of all of you. The only reason you hate her is cause you aint her so get a life and stay out of hers. God will judge everyone the same way. So you just make sure your house is in order and don't worry bout whats going on in ours!!!

Neither Bynum nor White are accountable to anyone ultimately. They are in independent churches with self-appointed callings, so there is no bishop or presbytery to keep them in check especially if God speaks to them directly, I mean, whose gonna argue with God? Congregationalism is part of the blight of American pop-religion; if we do not follow a Biblical form of church government, then this nonsense is always a possibility and I'll be accused of being judgmental . . .

I have heard both women preach at times. I have seen the Spirit of God rest on Juanita and had seen in Paula's life where God had freed her from several things in her life. Even the marriage relationship is symbolic of Christ and His bride (the Church.) It makes sense to me that Satan would be attacking families across the board and especially those in ministry to make it seem that the validity of marriage is no longer a sacred issue. I think talking about "self appointed callings" and being "money hungry" is easy to do from the sideline, but I believe up until recently the fruit that God has brought out of their ministies has shown that He has been in it. I'm sure both of these women feel they have disappointed and hurt a lot of people, that they are probably more aware than any of their critics what effect they've had on individuals. I've heard it said that the Christian army is the only army that burries their wounded. Even in the midst of their failures, even moreso because they are so openly witnessed, we should pray that God would raise them up and fulfill His purposes in each of their lives and not try to point out all the failures present. We can choose to be those holding the stones, or the ones representing Christ in saying "Where be your accusers?" Let us stand together in prayer and not against our wounded. I pray that these women will have not seen their best days in ministry, that the anointing of the Living God would overshadow them, that they will follow hard after God, that all bitterness and anger would disapate and that they would have fresh revelation from the Lord and they would know the secrets of the Lord, as those that fear the Lord are opened to. May God bless you all.

KC

The way that I see things is these women need to get back to there first love and not let the focus of there messages be strictly on finances. The word does teach us about give and it shall be given to you, but I also believe there is a bit to much concentration on give, give, give and this is what will happen. Because I have seen the devastation that those teachings have cause in the lives of people. They follow these teachings and do what these teachers have said and there's NO receiving back, they say all you need is faith when you give, and they do and nothing happens, what about those people??? It makes it feel like God is a respecter of persons and we no He's not!!! I know for myself that giving is biblical and I truly believe every part of the word, but I do feel like this teaching has been a little mishandled, that's all. I feel these women and others like them love God with there whole heart but just went a little off the path! The people that said we need to pray for these women and not judge them are right, we should be on our faces praying that we don't get trapped by vain things are selves. You ever heard judge not lest you be judged!!!! Think about it!!

I do appreciate everything that everybody has said and i firmly believe that it is not wrong to judge your christian brother or sister. The Bible of course tells us that with what measure we judge we shall also be judged,It also says that in Matt.7;3-5,we should not only see the speck in our brothers eye but also look at the plank in our own eyes.
My comments here today is not to point a finger at the body of Christ but to bring back concern to the church.I believe that there is no more concern in the body of Christ but we are all busy doing our own thing. There are ministers in the U,S,A.whom i believe would have stood up and say no to this type of things, especially so as a mentor for this people, ministers whom i believed would have prayed with this people before ever they thought of tying the knots and i believe this same people would have approved of it being God,s will,so how then can they sit there and letting God look like a double minded God.God,s word says he hates divorce that is why before we go into a marraige covenant tie we need to be prepared for the better and the worst. When we are married to Jesus we do come across worst storms in our life, but if you are a true child of God you stand the challenge till that storm passes by.Brethren we need to be our brothers keeper, like the good Samaritan.I will finally cast the blame on the well known people of God who this people are very much associated with not to have given the devil a footstool to make a mockery of the body of Christ.I am reslly discouraged over this whole episode and as the Bible says though we are so many but we are all one body in Christ. It is indeed a big blow to the body and i pray that the eyes of the church will be opened to see that when the devil succeeds in breaking our marraiges then he is succeeding in destroying the church which is the bride of Christ.May the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ bind us with the cords of love till his return in Jesus most precious Name,AMEN.

No matter what man may say, the good thing is God's our judge. He knows the motive of our hearts therefore always fair. What God has done and will continue to do by using Juanita and Paula in the ministry will come to pass cause nobody can stop the work of the Lord.Let us stand together and pray that both women are not succumbed into critism because that's the devil aim.Lastly no one on this planet is worthy of judging others.Let us not forget that our God is love and let's resemble our creator and treat others exactly the same way as we would do to ourselves, that's what the golden commandment says and Juanita and Paula were not excluded!

All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Jesus said he who is without sin cast the first stone, even God's leading men of the bible have fallen short look at the past and i mean past of david and bathesheba and how God forgave after he made david acknowledge his sin, discipline him of his sin and david repent of his sin then God made new his relationship and when acknowledge, repent then God forgive he also forgets and never remembers. Maybe we to should pratice the latter part and imagine ourselves in her place for we to can easily fall prey to the same situation. Only God can JUDGE and THE MEASURE FOR WHICH YOU JUDGE YOU TO WILL BE JUDGED.

I thank God for the life of Prophetess Juanita Bynum. Her ministry has been of a great blessing to me.

FIRST OF ALL, HE WHOS WITHOUT SIN, LET HIM CAST THE FIRST STONE, THATS WHY THE CHURCH IS IN SO MUCH TROUBLE, WE DONT WANT TO DIE, YEAH THESE WOMEN OF GOD WENT THROUGH SOME HARABLE THINGS BUT WHO ARE WE, PERSONLY BOTH OF THESE WOMEN HAVE MADE MAJOR IMPACTS ON MY LIFE,AS A MATTER OF FACT READING THE BIBLE AS A YOUNG GIRL KNOWING THE TRUTH FROM VERY YOUNG WONDERED A LONG TIME ABOUT THE CHURCH BECAUSE WHAT I WAS READING & SEEING WASNT ADDING UP & FOR A LONG TIME I FELT LIKE I WAS TRIPPIN, THEN SOMEBODY TURN ME ON TO NO MORE SHEETS & THEN FINALLY I REALIZED JUANITA HAD THE SAME REVELATION, SEE IF WE WOULD WALK BY THE SPIRIT THEIR WOULDNT BE ANY DOUBTS IN YOUR MINDS ABOUT THESE WOMEN, TRULY THEY ARE CALLED, MAKE KNOW MISTAKE ABOUT IT, U WHO SO QUICK TO GIVE AN OPENION & CRITISIZE BE MINDFUL OF THE ENEMY, THESE LADIES ARE FRONT LINE MINISTERS & WHY WOULDNT SATIN PATITION GOD ABOUT THEIR LIVES, NOT ONE PERSON IN THIS WORLD INCLUDING PASTOR RANDY & BISHOP WEEKS COULD DENY THAT GOD IS WITH THESE WOMEN, OH INDEED THEY HAVE POWER & IF U TRULY BEEN WITH FATHER, THEN PRAY FOR THESE WOMEN & IF U STILL CANT GET OVER THE FACT THAT THEY ARE BEING ATTACT THE WAY THEY HAVE BEEN THEN CHECK YOUR OWN CHRISTIANITY,I PERSONALLY SELUTE BOTH WOMEN & SAY JOB WELL DONE BECAUSE A PRICE HAS TO BE PAID, JESUS LEARNED OBEDIENCE BY THE THINGS HE SUFFERED, HE WENT FROM JUDGEMENT HALL TO JUDGEMENT HALL & OPEN NOT HIS MOUTH, SO AGAIN WHO ARE WE.. MY SISTERS I LOVE U & ILL ALWAYS BE GREATFUL TO GOD FOR BOTH OF U,,, RUN MY SISTERS & KNOW THIS TO SHALL PAST,,, RUN.

AFTER READING OTHER COMMENTS I HAD TO RESPOND, IF WE GONNA BRING UP SCRIPTURE LETS MAKE SURE WE KNOW HOW TO RIGHTLY DEVIDE THE WORD,LETS HAVE A TRUE REVELATION OF WHAT GOD IS SAYING,, I LOVE MY SISTERS & IM BEHIND THEM 100 PERCENT, WE NEED EACH OTHER TO SURVIVE, WE SUPPOSE TO BE BUILDING A KINGDOM, NOT TEARING IT DOWN, MY SISTER IF U SEE THIS MESSAGE, SAY NO MORE ABOUT THE SITUATION & KEEP RUNNING BECAUSE HOW WE RESPOND TO THE PROBLEM IS THE PROBLEM....

I'm glad to hear and see that these great women are recognised to their husbands again but my prayer is that God will give you the wisdom on how best to resolve issues especially patterning your marriage so that the devil will not have hold over your ministry. God bless and continually use you for the expansion of His kingdom.

Priye.

my name is tracy and i have never ask for help in my life I in my mind, I'm fighting a battle,I believe it to be a battle with the spirit world, and I'm fighting it alone. I know that the Lord is with me but I'm not doing it in the right way I'm fighting it in a worldly way and exspecting it to turn out in a Godly way. I don't have anything or anyone but god and the way I'm feeling right now I don't know what to maybe I never knew I don't know. I need help bad. I do know that I don't want to give up. I need help.

Just breath and allow God to intervene in your behalf. We tend to think we must suffer to grow closer to God, why did Jesus come? Jesus came to show us a better way and to remind us that he has taken the hardship away through his love and sacrifice. Jesus did it, let go of your demons and give them to God.

Love

Hi tracey, I pray that today you got closer to your maker. I read your cry for help. Let me tell you girl it's good to know that we can call on each other. My daughter is going thru the same battle, the same desire to let go and let GOD. but,it's going to be up to her to grab a hold of LOVE,TRUTH,and the only one who can keep her.until then my desire for you is that god would place someone in your path, who is willing to step into your shoes and helh you draw closer to him . my heart goes out to you my prayer goes out to you .I always tell my 18year old to always remember the poem "FOOTPRINT IN THE SAND " when you see one footprint THAT'S WHEN HE"S CARRYING YOU".keep on fighting

After reading the comments, I must also respond to the ORIGINATOR of the blog located at: http://slaughteringthesheep.wordpress.com/2009/09/08/the-second-coming-of-juanita-bynum/ that linked to this one we're on now.
I just watched an episode of J. Bynum. One of many I've heard and seen in the past, and: I heard NOTHING about "prosperity" Instead she preached about how each of us must seek the righteousness of God, about our Faith in God. Yes, many preachers send a message "sow a seed of so many $dollars and you will be blessed". Ive never cared for that. But that IS NOT JB's message. Most of JB's messages admonishes us to SEEK YE FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD. Do not tear this sister down. Yes, she has made big mistakes, but God is yet developing her, as He is all of us. If we had to be perfect before He blessed us NONE WOULD BE BLESSED OR SAVED for that matter. It is a process. Unfortunately, JB's process is revealed to the world, while we are in secret, no one knows. You say "SELF PROCLAIMED PROPHET" How could YOU possibly know that? Are you God? NO. You don't know what God has proclaimed in this woman's life, OR the process by which HE has chosen to bring it to fruition. You say she does not preach about Jesus. Another lie. She preaches JESUS constantly. No, I dont agree or approve of some of the things that has transpired in JB's public life. Yes, she has some issues, BUT WHO DOES NOT!. At least SHE IS USING HER GIFTS TO SPREAD THE GOSPEL., What are YOU doing? You're using your gift of gab, not to encourage, but to tear down one of God's children. You've mentioned NONE of her accomplishments, ONLY her failures. PLease tell us how you became so perfect as to qualify to do this. We all want to know. JUDGE NOT UNLESS YE BE JUDGED. I will pray for you as I pray for JB, and myself. For I CERTAINLY am not perfect..yet, and will not see perfection until Christ comes again. Words spoken and written can bring hurt, harm, as well as help, and encouragment. You have chosen to hurt under the guise of "truth". Psalm 18:21 "The power of life and death are in the tongue" And since YOU DON'T REALLY KNOW what God has ordained in JB's life, I advise you to be careful and take heed to ......
Psalm 105:15 "Touch not my annointed and do my prophets no harm" ....
I pray for mercy, true revelation, and release from bitterness, and envy, for you my sister. Especially mercy
"For it is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the Living God" Hebrews 10:31.

It's funny how we look to everything but the Word of God to guide us. There are perfect Christian role models: people who honor the Lord and the Word of God in their living and have enough sense and humility to not make a mockery of Christ and the Kingdom, if and when they mess up. Our life is one where we can always be close to God and please Him, through repentance and restoration. It is when leaders become so grand and important to people who idolize them, and themselves, that they cannot take a moment out of the spotlight and do the right thing, that we look inconsistent as a Body. We do not have ANY scriptural role models of leadership falling, sinning, and telling people they can't be judged, or God's people failing to rule-as leaders have been called to-in knowing when enough is enough and leaders become public spectacles-not because of the sufferings for righteousness, but because they won't sit down and work out some of their own issues.

The crutch, " we are not too judge" is just too sick.... You that compromise truth and character, along with Paula and Juanita need to be reminded that We ARE told to not only judge, but also SENTENCE those that are within the body of Christ. By their fruits, we KNOW that they are power and wealth addicts... They care for themselves PERIOD.
I have heard their "take on Theology"....They have no clue
Who EVER gives them a dime should go broke,

Excellent post. I want to thank you for this informative read, I really appreciate sharing this great post. Keep up your work. mariage
